Description

【発明の詳細な説明】 〔産業上の利用分野〕 本発明は、屈折率変化あるいは透過率変化によ
り情報を記録する光学的記録媒体の媒体構成に関
するものである。
〔従来の技術〕
近年、レーザ光等の高エネルギー密度の光ビー
ムを用いて情報を記録・再生する光学的記録媒体
が開発されている。
光学的記録媒体は、基本的にガラス、プラスチ
ツク等の透明基板と、透明基板上に設けられた記
録媒体とから構成される。記録媒体用の材料とし
ては、As−Se−G−Ge、AsTe、AsSeTe等の非
晶質薄膜、Ag2O、TeOx等の金属酸化物薄膜が
挙げられる。このような媒体構成から成る光学的
記録媒体上に透明基板側から1μmφ程度に絞つた
He−Ne、半導体等のレーザ光を照射して情報信
号を記録・再生する。この場合、レーザパワーの
低い領域では、結晶と非晶質間の相変化現象を利
用して記録媒体の屈折率変化あるいは透過率変化
による書換え型の信号記録方式が可能となり、レ
ーザパワーの高い領域では、記録媒体が溶融蒸発
により破壊されるため、反射率変化による再生専
用の穴開け型の信号記録方式が可能となる。
〔発明が解決しようとする課題〕 上記信号記録方式の内、書換え型の信号記録方
式は、将来的な大容量コンピユータ用デイスク・
メモリとして期待されている。しかしながら、上
記従来の媒体構成において、相変化現象を利用し
た書換え型として用いる場合、高いレーザーパワ
ー領域では、前述したように、記録媒体が溶融蒸
発により破壊されるため、レーザパワーに関する
記録マージンが大幅に低下すると共に、記録後、
蒸発飛散物が記録媒体表面上に付着し、再生時に
媒体ノイズの原因となるという欠点があつた。
又、情報を再生する際、記録媒体が光エネルギー
吸収による温度上昇を起こし、相変化により記録
した情報が消失してしまうという危険性があつ
た。
〔課題を解決するための手段〕
本発明は、書換え可能の相変化型記録媒体を用
いた光学的記録媒体を実用化する上での上記問題
点を解決するため、媒体構成として、透明な基板
上の記録媒体にヒ素を含むカルコゲナイド非晶質
を用い、該記録媒体上に、光照射により軟化もし
くは溶融蒸発を生じない軟化温度もしくは融点を
もち、かつ少なくとも記録媒体より大きい熱伝導
率をもつ反射機能を備えた金属反射層を積層する
ことを特徴とし、その目的は、記録媒体の溶融蒸
発を防ぎ、記録マージンの増大、媒体ノイズの低
減、記録レーザ光の有効利用、及び再生時の信号
劣化の防止を図ることにある。
〔実施例〕
以下、図面を用いて、本発明の実施例を詳細に
説明する。
第1図は、本発明の相変化型の光学的記録媒体
に関する一実施例であつて、1は透明基板、2は
透明基板1上に形成した記録媒体、3は記録媒体
2上に形成した反射層である。透明基板1として
は、平面精度、表面精度に優れたガラスやプラス
チツク等の基板が、記録媒体2としては、光照射
による結晶−非晶質相変化により屈折率変化ある
いは透過率変化を示すAs−Se−S−Ge、AsTe、
AsSeTe等のヒ素を含むカルコゲナイド非晶質薄
膜を用いることができる。又、反射層3として
は、光照射により軟化もしくは溶融蒸発を生じな
い軟化温度もしくは融点をもち、かつ少なくとも
記録媒体2より大きい熱伝導率をもつ薄膜、例え
ばAl、Au、Ti等の金属薄膜を用いることができ
る。
第1図において、透明基板1側から記録レーザ
光4を照射することにより、記録媒体2には結晶
−非晶質相変化による屈折率変化あるいは透過率
変化が生じて信号が記録されるが、この場合、記
録媒体2上には反射層3が存在するため、記録媒
体2で吸収されずに透過した記録レーザ光も反射
層3で反射レーザ光4′として反射され、再度記
録媒体2に入射して記録エネルギとして寄与する
ため、記録レーザ光4の有効利用を図ることがで
きる。又反射層3の熱伝導率は記録媒体2のそれ
よりも十分大きいため、情報記録時には、高い記
録レーザパワー領域においても、記録媒体2の温
度上昇を反射層3への熱エネルギの拡散により防
ぐことにより記録媒体2の溶融蒸発を防止し、情
報再生時にも、同様に記録媒体の温度上昇を反射
層3への熱エネルギの拡散により防ぐことにより
相変化により記録した情報の破壊を防止できるた
め記録・再生段階を通じて記録媒体2を安定に保
持することができる。
第2図は、AsSeTeを記録媒体2として用いた
光学的記録媒体における記録レーザパワーと再生
信号出力の関係を示した図であり、実線は反射層
3が存在しない従来の媒体構成を用いた場合であ
り、低いレーザパワー領域では相変化現象に基づ
く黒化による信号記録が行われるため、再生信号
出力もそれほど大きくないが、高いレーザパー領
域では記録媒体2の溶融蒸発による信号記録が行
われるため、再生信号出力は黒化による信号記録
領域よりもかなり大きな値を示している。
一方、点線は第1図に示した本発明の媒体構成
とした場合であり、全記録レーザパワー領域にお
いて溶融蒸発による信号記録は見られず、相変化
現象に基づく黒化による信号記録の行われている
ことが理解できる。
従つて本発明の媒体構成による相変化型光学的
記録媒体によれば、屈折率変化あるいは透過率変
化により信号を記録する場合の記録マージンが増
大し、又、信号記録が溶融蒸発に依つていないた
め、蒸発物の付着による媒体ノイズの増大を防ぐ
ことが可能となる。更に、情報再生時において
も、再生レーザ光による記録媒体への影響を最小
限に抑え、記録媒体を安定に保持することができ
る。
〔発明の効果〕
以上説明したように、光照射による屈折率変化
あるいは透過率変化によつて信号を記録する相変
化型のヒ素を含むカルコゲナイド非晶質からなる
記録媒体上に、光照射により軟化もしくは溶融蒸
発を生じない軟化温度もしくは融点をもち、かつ
記録媒体より大きい熱伝導率をもつ金属反射層を
積層した媒体構成とすることにより、記録マージ
ンの増大、媒体ノイズの低減、記録レーザ光の有
効利用、及び再生時における信号劣化の防止等を
可能とする利点がある。

第1図は、本発明の光学的記録媒体の一実施例
を示す断面図、第2図は、AsSeTeを記録媒体と
して用いた本発明の媒体構成とした光学的記録媒
体の記録レーザパワーと再生信号出力の関係を示

    【特許請求の範囲】
  1. 1 透明な基板の上に、光照射により屈折率変化
    あるいは透過率変化を示す相変化型のヒ素を含む
    カルコゲナイド非晶質からなる記録媒体層を積層
    し、該記録媒体層上に、光照射により軟化もしく
    は溶融蒸発を生じない軟化温度もしくは融点をも
    ち、かつ前記記録媒体層より大きい熱伝導率をも
    つ金属反射層を積層した媒体構成よりなることを
    特徴とする光学的記録媒体。
