Description
図1に示されるように、この消音器10は、鋼板プレス成型品のアッパシェルハーフ12とロワシェルハーフ14とを接合して構成されるシェル16と、ロワシェルハーフ14の左前端から斜め前方に突出するインレットパイプ18と、インレットパイプ18の先端に溶接された接続フランジ20と、ロワシェルハーフ14の右後面から後方に突出するテールパイプ22と、アッパシェルハーフ12の左前端に溶接された前部ステー24と、ブラケット26(図2参照)を介してアッパシェルハーフ12及びロワシェルハーフ14の右後端に溶接された左右一対の後部ステー28、30と、を有する。
次に、シェル16内に入り込んだインレットパイプ18の下流側の構成について、図2、図3、図4A及び図5Aを参照しながら説明する。
次に、図2を参照して、消音器10における排気ガスの流れを説明する。
本実施形態に係る消音器10は、図示しないエンジンに排気管を介して接続される消音器10であって、消音器本体部としてのシェル16と、前記エンジンからの排気ガスを前記シェル16内に導くインレットパイプ18と、前記排気ガスを前記シェル16外へ排出するアウトレットパイプ36と、前記インレットパイプ18の縮径部50(下流側開口端部)に取り付けられ、前記排気ガスの吹き出し方向を規制するキャップ56と、を備え、前記キャップ56には、前記排気ガスを通過させて該排気ガスの吹き出し方向を整える開口部62(一方の開口部66及び他方の開口部68)が設けられる。
し、前記開口部62(一方の開口部66及び他方の開口部68)は、前記側壁部58に設けられることが好ましい。
図4Bは、比較例としての従来技術に係るインレットパイプの下流端を示す断面図である。この比較例では、インレットパイプのくび部150(縮径部152)の先端に、別途のパイプ154が設けられ、該パイプ154の内側にキャップ156が溶接されている。図4A及び図4Bに示すように、本発明の実施形態に係るキャップ56は、比較例としてのパイプ154及びキャップ156よりも、くび部52(縮径部50)の先端からの長さが距離D2だけ短い。すなわち、本発明の実施形態に係る消音器10では、比較例と比べて、インレットパイプ18が小型化、軽量化されている。
なお、この実施形態に係る消音器10として、一方の開口部66が、一方の開口部66に対向するシェル16の内壁Wとの距離D1が最大となる方向を向いている例を示したが、開口部62の開口方向はこれに限られるものではない。

Claims (4)
- エンジンに排気管を介して接続される消音器であって、
内部が共鳴室と膨張室とに区画された消音器本体部としてのシェルと、
前記エンジンからの排気ガスを前記シェル内に導くインレットパイプと、
前記排気ガスを前記シェル外へ排出するアウトレットパイプと、
を備え、
前記インレットパイプは、
前記排気管に接続され、前記膨張室内に位置する円筒部と、
前記円筒部に連続して前記共鳴室内に延在し、前記円筒部の下流側に向かって徐々に径が細くなる中空円錐台状の縮径部と、
を有し、
前記縮径部の軸線方向下流側の端面には、前記排気ガスを前記共鳴室内へ導く排気ガス排出孔が設けられ、
前記縮径部の周側面には、前記排気ガス排出孔の軸線と同軸状に、前記排気ガス排出孔を覆う有底円筒形状のキャップが取り付けられ、
前記キャップの側壁部には、前記排気ガス排出孔から吹き出す前記排気ガスの吹き出し方向を整える開口部が設けられる
ことを特徴とする消音器。 - 請求項1記載の消音器において、
前記キャップは、
前記排気ガス排出孔から前記排気ガス排出孔の軸線方向下流側へ吹き出す排気ガスの流れを遮って、前記側壁部に設けられた前記開口部へ導く底壁部を有し、
前記底壁部は、前記排気ガス排出孔よりも外径の大きい略円板状である
ことを特徴とする消音器。 - 請求項2記載の消音器において、
前記側壁部には、前記縮径部の軸線方向下流側の端部に向かって拡径するテーパー部が設けられることを特徴とする消音器。 - 請求項1乃至3のいずれか1項に記載の消音器において、
前記開口部は、該開口部に対向する前記シェルの内壁との距離が最大となる方向を向いていることを特徴とする消音器。
