Description
[0001]本出願は、2012年2月8日に出願された米国仮出願番号61/596,622の35U.S.C.§119(e)下での優先権を主張し、その開示は全体が参照により本明細書に組み込まれる。
[0002]本発明は、感圧水性アクリル酸系接着剤及びそれを使用する方法に関する。
[0012]本発明は更に、支持部材とそれに付着した上記の感圧接着剤組成物を含む感圧接着剤層とを含む製品を提供する。
[0036]アクリル酸系重合体及びアクリル酸系共重合体の組成物を媒体、例えば水に分散又は乳化してもよい。その目的には任意の適切な乳化剤を使用することができる。陰イオン系乳化剤の非限定的な例としては、ラウリル硫酸ナトリウム、ラウリル硫酸アンモニウム及びラウリル硫酸カリウム等のアルキル硫酸塩型陰イオン系乳化剤;ポリオキシエチレンラウリルエーテル硫酸ナトリウム等のポリオキシエチレンアルキルエーテル硫酸塩型陰イオン系乳化剤;ポリオキシエチレンラウリルフェニルエーテル硫酸アンモニウム及びポリオキシエチレンラウリルフェニルエーテル硫酸ナトリウム等のポリオキシエチレンアルキルフェニルエーテル硫酸塩型陰イオン系乳化剤;ドデシルベンゼンスルホン酸ナトリウム等のスルホン酸塩型陰イオン系乳化剤;スルホコハク酸ラウリル二ナトリウム及びポリオキシエチレンスルホコハク酸ラウリル二ナトリウム等のスルホコハク酸型陰イオン系乳化剤等が挙げられる。また、非イオン系乳化剤の非限定的な例としては、ポリオキシエチレンラウリルエーテル等のポリオキシエチレンアルキルエーテル型非イオン系乳化剤;ポリオキシエチレンラウリルフェニルエーテル等のポリオキシエチレンアルキルフェニルエーテル型非イオン系乳化剤;ポリオキシエチレン脂肪酸エステル、ポリオキシエチレン−ポリオキシプロピレンブロック重合体等の非イオン系乳化剤等が挙げられる。
[0040]粘着付与剤は従来から感圧接着剤の技術分野で使用されており、本発明に使用することができる粘着付与剤の種類は特に限定されない。場合により好適な粘着付与剤の非限定的な例としては、ロジン系粘着付与剤樹脂、テルペン系粘着付与剤樹脂、炭化水素系粘着付与剤樹脂、エポキシ系粘着付与剤樹脂、ポリアミド系粘着付与剤樹脂、エラストマー系粘着付与剤樹脂、フェノール系粘着付与剤樹脂、ケトン系粘着付与剤樹脂等が挙げられる。粘着付与剤樹脂は単独で又はそれらの2種以上組み合わせて使用することができる。
[0060] 本発明のアクリル酸系重合体又はアクルル酸系共重合体、ロジンエステル及び第2の重合体の組合せ物、混合物、分散物又は乳化物を調製する方法の非限定的な例を以下の実施例に記載する。
[0068]剥離ライナーにおける剥離層の厚みは、特に限定されず、特定の使用目的に応じて適宜選択することができる。
実施例
実施例1.感圧接着剤及び感圧接着剤ラベルの作製
[0074]ジャケット付き容器を95〜100℃の温度に予備加熱した。温度は115〜120℃程度の温度のオイルを含有するオイルジャケットによって制御した。次いで、水320gを容器に添加し、温度を96〜99℃に調節した。撹拌(ライトニングRS500鋸歯型羽根を使用)を開始し、少量の水酸化カリウムを添加して水と5分間混合した。少量の界面活性剤J−Phos 1066(アルキルエーテルリン酸エステル及びリン酸を含有する)(英国、マンチェスターのJ1 Technologies社から市販)を添加して水と5分間混合して乳化物の水相を作製した。ハネウェル・インターナショナル社からA−C(登録商標)5120として市販されているエチレン−アクリル酸共重合体、又は前記共重合体とハネウェル・インターナショナル社からA−C(登録商標)656として市販されている酸化ポリエチレン重合体の25:75混合物を110〜115℃程度の温度で添加剤(5%w/wのテクニカルホワイトオイル(technical white oil))と予め溶融した。次いで、この材料を、溶融すると直ぐに低速で撹拌して混合した。次に撹拌速度を960〜1000RPMに上げて、次いでこの溶融したワックス相を3〜5分かけて、水相(上記を参照)の入った混合器の中心に添加した。温度を97〜99℃に維持した。この段階でこのように予備乳化物(pre-emulsion)を形成し、更に5分間混合した。水酸化カリウム16gを1〜2分かけて添加した。この段階で水酸化カリウムの添加に伴い粘度の緩やかな増加が観察された。混合を更に5分間続けた。得られた乳化物の平均粒子径は、0.3〜0.6ミクロンの範囲であった。次いでこの高粘度の乳化物のpHを粒子径に影響を与えないようにして調整した。具体的には、全乳化物の1%(v/v)の量の85%酢酸を別の容器の熱水(80〜90℃の範囲の温度)60gに加え、得られた混合物を撹拌した。次いで、この希釈した酢酸を1〜2分かけて粘性乳化物(上記参照)に加えた。乳化物は薄められ、粘度が劇的に減少した。最終生成物を、最初に容器ジャケットを用いて冷却し、次いでシンク又はインライン冷却器で急速に35℃に冷却した。温度が35℃より下がったところで少量の殺生物剤を加えた。次いで、生成物を200ミクロンのフィルタで濾過した。最終規格は以下の通りである。すなわち、固体含有量は約56%であり、粘度は350〜1500cps(60RPM、ブルックフィールド#3スピンドル)であり、pHは8〜8.5であり、粒子径は0.35〜0.6ミクロン(×50)であった。本発明に記載されたその他のワックス(A−C(登録商標)655、A−C(登録商標)645P)の乳化物についても同様に行うことができる。
[0077]実施例1に記載の種々の接着剤を含有する感圧接着剤テープを、ステンレス鋼表面での剪断抵抗力(剪断)、低密度ポリエチレンへのループ粘着力(タックポリ)及びステンレス鋼へのループ粘着力(タックSS)、並びに段ボール紙への剥離接着力(ピールカード)、及び低密度ポリエチレンへの剥離接着力(ピールポリ)について試験を行った。図1に記載したように被着剤であるステンレス鋼を低密度ポリエチレン及び段ボール紙に交換した以外は、段落[0068]〜[0070]に記載されたものと同じ測定を行った。試験した接着剤は、米国、ノースカロライナ州、シャーロットのBASF社からAcronal(登録商標)V215として市販されているアクリル酸系共重合体を(接着剤全重量に対して)約72重量%と、(接着剤全重量に対して)表示している重量%の米国、テネシー州、キングスポートのイーストマン・ケミカル社からTacolynTM3509として市販されているロジンエステル樹脂、及びハネウェル・インターナショナル社から、A−C(登録商標)5120として市販されているエチレン−アクリル酸共重合体とを含有していた(図1及び図2)。
[0082]また、ハネウェル・インターナショナル社から、A−C(登録商標)645P及びA−C(登録商標)655として市販されている重合体製品を含む感圧接着剤も調製される。これらの感圧接着剤は実施例1で提供される情報に従って製造され、上記の段落[0068]〜[0070]に記載されたものと同様に試験に供される。
[0083]ロジン粘着付与剤樹脂を含まない感圧接着剤も調製する。これらの接着剤は、アクリル酸、アクリル酸ブチル、アクリル酸2−エチルヘキシル、メタクリル酸メチル、アクリル酸オクチル、スチレン、酢酸ビニル及びそれらの組み合わせからなる群から選択される重合した単量体を含むアクリル酸系重合体又は共重合体である第1の重合体並びにエチレン−アクリル酸共重合体、酸化ポリエチレン、酸化エチレン−酢酸ビニル共重合体、マレイン化ポリオレフィン及びそれらの組み合わせからなる群から選択される第2の重合体のみを含む。これらの感圧接着剤は実施例1で提供される情報に従って製造され、上記の段落[0068]〜[0070]に記載されたものと同様に試験に供される。
[1]a)アクリル酸、アクリル酸ブチル、アクリル酸2−エチルヘキシル、メタクリル酸メチル、アクリル酸オクチル、スチレン、酢酸ビニル及びそれらの組み合わせからなる群から選択される重合した単量体を含むアクリル酸系重合体又は共重合体である第1の重合体、及び、b)エチレン−アクリル酸共重合体、酸化ポリエチレン、酸化エチレン−酢酸ビニル共重合体、マレイン化ポリオレフィン及びそれらの組み合わせからなる群から選択される第2の重合体を含み、水性であり、基材への感圧接着に適合している、感圧接着剤組成物。
[2]ロジンエステル樹脂、ロジン酸樹脂、合成炭化水素樹脂、合成テルペン樹脂及びそれらの組み合わせからなる群から選択される粘着付与剤樹脂を更に含む、[1]に記載の組成物。
[3]第1の重合体が接着剤全重量の約59重量%〜約98.5重量%の濃度で存在し、粘着付与剤が接着剤全重量の約0.5重量%〜約40重量%の濃度で存在し、第2の重合体が接着剤全重量の約1重量%〜約17.5重量%の濃度で存在する、[2]に記載の組成物。
[4]エチレン−アクリル酸共重合体が、ASTM D−1386法に従って測定される約40mgKOH/g〜約200mgKOH/gの酸価、ASTM D−5法に従って測定される約20dmm未満の25℃での硬度、及びブルックフィールド回転粘度計によって測定される約200cps〜約800cpsの140℃での粘度を有し、
酸化エチレン−酢酸ビニル共重合体が、ASTM D−1386法に従って測定される約8mgKOH/g〜約20mgKOH/gの酸価、ASTM D−5法に従って測定される約10dmm未満の25℃での硬度、及び、ブルックフィールド回転粘度計によって測定される約250cps〜約800cpsの140℃での粘度を有し、
酸化ポリエチレンが、ASTM D−1386法に従って測定される約10mgKOH/g〜約21mgKOH/gの酸価、ASTM D−5法に従って測定される約0.5dmm〜約13dmmの25℃での硬度、及びブルックフィールド回転粘度計によって測定される約100cps〜500cpsの140℃での粘度を有し、
マレイン化ポリオレフィンが、ASTM D−1386法に従って測定される約5mgKOH/g〜約100mgKOH/gの鹸化価、ASTM D−5法に従って測定される15dmm未満の25℃での硬度、及びブルックフィールド回転粘度計によって測定される約500cps〜約5000cpsの140℃での粘度を有する、[3]に記載の組成物。
[5]第2の重合体がエチレン−アクリル酸共重合体である、[4]に記載の組成物。
[6]支持部材及びそれに付着した感圧接着剤層を含む製品であって、
該感圧接着剤層が、a)アクリル酸、アクリル酸ブチル、アクリル酸2−エチルヘキシル、メタクリル酸メチル、アクリル酸オクチル、スチレン、酢酸ビニル及びそれらの組み合わせからなる群から選択される重合した単量体を含むアクリル酸系重合体又は共重合体である第1の重合体、及び、b)エチレン−アクリル酸共重合体、酸化ポリエチレン、酸化エチレン−酢酸ビニル共重合体、マレイン化ポリオレフィン及びそれらの組み合わせからなる群から選択される第2の重合体を含み、該感圧接着剤層が水性であり、基材への感圧接着に適合している、製品。
[7]感圧接着剤層が、ロジンエステル樹脂、ロジン酸樹脂、合成炭化水素樹脂、合成テルペン樹脂及びそれらの組み合わせからなる群から選択される粘着付与剤樹脂を更に含む、[6]に記載の製品。
[8]第1の重合体が接着剤全重量の約59重量%〜約98.5重量%の濃度で存在し、粘着付与剤が接着剤全重量の約0重量%〜約40重量%の濃度で存在し、第2の重合体が接着剤全重量の約1重量%〜約17.5重量%の濃度で存在する、[7]に記載の製品。
[9]エチレン−アクリル酸共重合体が、ASTM D−1386法に従って測定される約40mgKOH/g〜約200mgKOH/gの酸価、ASTM D−5法に従って測定される約20dmm未満の25℃での硬度、及びブルックフィールド回転粘度計によって測定される約200cps〜約800cpsの140℃での粘度を有し、
酸化エチレン−酢酸ビニル共重合体が、ASTM D−1386法に従って測定される約8mgKOH/g〜約20mgKOH/gの酸価、ASTM D−5法に従って測定される約10dmm未満の25℃での硬度、及び、ブルックフィールド回転粘度計によって測定される約250cps〜約800cpsの140℃での粘度を有し、
酸化ポリエチレンが、ASTM D−1386法に従って測定される約10mgKOH/g〜約21mgKOH/gの酸価、ASTM D−5法に従って測定される約0.5dmm〜約13dmmの25℃での硬度、及びブルックフィールド回転粘度計によって測定される約100cps〜500cpsの140℃での粘度を有し、
マレイン化ポリオレフィンが、ASTM D−1386法に従って測定される約5mgKOH/g〜約100mgKOH/gの鹸化価、ASTM D−5法に従って測定される15dmm未満の25℃での硬度、及びブルックフィールド回転粘度計によって測定される約500cps〜約5000cpsの140℃での粘度を有する、[8]に記載の製品。
[10][1]〜[5]のいずれか一つに記載の感圧接着剤組成物を支持部材に塗布する工程を含む、感圧接着剤製品を形成する方法。
Claims (3)
- 水性であり、基材への感圧接着に適合している、感圧接着剤組成物であって、
a)該接着剤組成物の固形分全重量に基づいて59重量%乃至98.5重量%の第1の重合体であって、アクリル酸、アクリル酸ブチル、アクリル酸2−エチルヘキシル、メタクリル酸メチル、アクリル酸オクチル、スチレン、酢酸ビニル、及び、それらの二つ以上の組み合わせからなる群から選択される重合した単量体を含むアクリル酸系重合体又は共重合体である第1の重合体、
b)該接着剤組成物の固形分全重量に基づいて1重量%乃至17.5重量%の第2の重合体であって、数平均分子量が1500乃至3000のエチレン−アクリル酸共重合体と組み合わせた数平均分子量が800乃至6000の酸化ポリエチレン、及び、
c)該接着剤組成物の固形分全重量に基づいて0.5重量%乃至40重量%の粘着付与剤であって、数平均分子量が270乃至1400であり、ロジンエステル樹脂、ロジン酸樹脂、合成炭化水素樹脂、合成テルペン樹脂、及び、それらの二つ以上の組み合わせからなる群から選択される粘着付与剤、
を含む、感圧接着剤組成物。 - 支持部材及びそれに付着した感圧接着剤層を含む製品であって、
該感圧接着剤層が、
a)該接着剤組成物の固形分全重量に基づいて59重量%乃至98.5重量%の第1の重合体であって、アクリル酸、アクリル酸ブチル、アクリル酸2−エチルヘキシル、メタクリル酸メチル、アクリル酸オクチル、スチレン、酢酸ビニル、及び、それらの二つ以上の組み合わせからなる群から選択される重合した単量体を含むアクリル酸系重合体又は共重合体である第1の重合体、
b)該接着剤組成物の固形分全重量に基づいて1重量%乃至17.5重量%の第2の重合体であって、数平均分子量が1500乃至3000のエチレン−アクリル酸共重合体と組み合わせた数平均分子量が800乃至6000の酸化ポリエチレン、及び、
c)該接着剤組成物の固形分全重量に基づいて0.5重量%乃至40重量%の粘着付与剤であって、数平均分子量が270乃至1400であり、ロジンエステル樹脂、ロジン酸樹脂、合成炭化水素樹脂、合成テルペン樹脂、及び、それらの二つ以上の組み合わせからなる群から選択される粘着付与剤、
を含み、該感圧接着剤層が水性であり、基材への感圧接着に適合している、
製品。 - 請求項1に記載の感圧接着剤組成物を支持部材に塗布する工程を含む、感圧接着剤製品を形成する方法。
