Description
本発明は、他の基油との選択されたエステルを含む潤滑剤組成物の分野に関し、且つ種々の用途におけるこれらの潤滑剤組成物の使用に関する。詳細には、ヒンダードポリオールと少なくとも5個の炭素原子又はそれ以上の炭素鎖長の分枝鎖カルボン酸との反応生成物である合成エステルが提供され、その際、該合成エステルは、強化された酸化寿命/安定性を提供するために、1種以上の追加の基油と混合される。
空気圧縮機、エンジンオイル、ギアオイル、圧媒液等で使用するための潤滑剤は、高い粘度指数、良好な潤滑性、高い酸化安定性、及び高い熱安定性の優れた特性を必要とする。酸化安定性は、潤滑剤の大気中への繰り返される長時間の暴露、様々な冶金、及びシール材のために重要である。望ましい潤滑剤組成物は、広い温度範囲で液相のままであり、良好な低温流動性を有し、低い蒸気圧を有し、且つ温度及び圧力の広い範囲で長期間にわたって使用可能である。高温での粘度は、適切な潤滑性を提供するのに十分であるべきであり、低温では、外部加熱を必要とすることなく、氷点下の温度での圧縮機の起動を可能にするのに十分に低くあるべきである。
合成エステル及び少なくとも1種の追加の基油を含有する改善された潤滑剤、並びにその製造方法及びその使用が提供される。出願人は、少なくとも1種のヒンダード有機ポリオールと1種以上のカルボン酸との反応生成物である合成エステルを含む改善された潤滑剤組成物であって、該酸の少なくとも一部(20%)から100%までが分枝鎖状である、前記潤滑剤組成物を開発した。そのように得られたエステルは、ヒンダード有機ポリオールエステル又は更にヒンダードポリオールエステルを意味し得る。潤滑剤組成物は、例えば、空気、湿気、及び/又は高温への曝露を伴う用途において、そのエステル成分が、1種以上のヒンダード有機ポリオールと1種以上の全て直鎖状(即ち、100%非分枝鎖状)のカルボン酸との反応生成物である潤滑剤と比較して、改善された酸化安定性と延びた耐用寿命を提供し得る。合成エステルの基油は、少なくとも第2の基油と混合され、任意に第3、第4、又はそれ以上の基油、及び添加剤パッケージと混合される。これらの潤滑剤組成物は、種々の潤滑剤用途、例えば、限定されずに、空気圧縮機、ギアボックス、ベアリングセット、液圧システム、及びチェーンドライブに適している。
本発明は、空気、湿気、及び/又は高温に曝された時に改善された酸化安定性を与える潤滑剤組成物に関する。かかる潤滑剤は、特に、入ってくる空気と一緒に水分が引き込まれ、その後、通常の潤滑プロセス中に潤滑剤と混ざり合う潤滑剤用途に適している。特に、かかる圧縮機は、冷却流体を圧縮するために使用される気密封止システムとは対照的に、「開」とみなされる。
ヒンダード有機ポリオールとの記載は、少なくとも5個の炭素原子、少なくとも2つのヒドロキシル基(−OH)を有し、且つ−OH基を有する炭素原子に直接結合した炭素原子上に水素原子が存在しない有機分子を意味する。即ち、β−炭素上に水素原子は存在しない。1つ以上の実施態様では、ヒンダード有機ポリオールは、少なくとも2つの、好ましくは2つ、3つ又は4つのメチロール基を有する1つ以上の第4級炭素原子を有する脂肪族有機分子を含む。このようなヒンダード有機ポリオールの一例は、(モノ)ペンタエリスリトール(2,2−ジメチロール−1,3−プロパンジオール)である。
カルボン酸との記載は、カルボキシル基(−COOH又は−CO2H)基を含む有機分子を意味する。分枝鎖カルボン酸は、炭化水素骨格から側鎖を有する。合成エステルと共に使用されるカルボン酸は、5個、6個、7個、8個又は9個以上の炭素の鎖を有し得る。1つ以上の実施形態では、カルボン酸は一塩基性であり、即ち、それらがアルコールとのエステル化のために鎖上にたった1つの位置を提供している。特定の実施形態では、カルボン酸は、20%以上(又は30%以上、又は40%以上、又は50%以上、又は60%以上、又は70%以上、又は80%以上、又は90%以上、又は更に100%)の分枝鎖カルボン酸を含む。例示的な分枝鎖カルボン酸としては、限定されずに、イソペンタン酸、2−エチルヘキサン酸、イソノナン酸が挙げられる。
提供される合成エステル基油は、ヒンダード有機ポリオールエステル基油をも意味し得る。特定の実施形態では、ヒンダード有機ポリオールエステル基油は、全潤滑剤組成物の約2質量パーセントから約80質量パーセントまでを構成し、性能添加剤パッケージは、全潤滑剤組成物の約0.1質量パーセントから約10質量パーセントまでを構成し、1種以上の追加の基油は、全潤滑剤組成物の残部を構成する。他の実施形態では、ヒンダード有機ポリオールエステル基油は、全潤滑剤組成物の約5質量パーセントから約70質量パーセントまでを構成する。他の実施形態では、ヒンダード有機ポリオールエステル基油は、全潤滑剤組成物の約10質量パーセントから約50質量パーセントまでを構成する。更なる実施形態では、ヒンダード有機ポリオールエステル基油は、全潤滑剤組成物の約10質量パーセントから約35質量パーセントまでを構成する。しかしながら、一般的に、これらの成分は、各用途の特定のニーズに応じて、広く様々な量で組成物中に存在し得ると考えられており、全てのかかる変形は本発明の広い範囲内にあると考えられる。
特定の実施形態では、合成エステル基油は、潤滑剤組成物を作るために1種以上の追加の基油と組み合わされて使用される。これらの1種以上の追加の基油は、ポリアルキレングリコール、グリコールエーテル、ポリエーテル、ポリオレフィン、オレフィンコポリマー、ポリアルファオレフィン、ポリブテン、鉱油、高度精製鉱油、高級パラフィン性のフィッシャー−トロプシュ法由来の基液、シリコーン、アルキル化ナフタレン及びそれらの混合物からなる群から選択される。詳細な実施形態は、1種以上の追加の基材油が、ポリアルキレングリコール、ポリオレフィン、オレフィンコポリマー、ポリアルファオレフィン、及び高級パラフィン性のフィッシャー−トロプシュ法由来の基液のうち1つ以上を含むのみであることを提供する。詳細な実施態様は、1種以上の追加の基油がアルキル化ナフタレンを除外することを提供する。
幾つかの使用条件下では、上記のエステルは十分な潤滑剤として良好に機能する。しかしながら、一般に、完全な潤滑剤の場合、当該技術分野では通例、耐酸化性(酸化防止剤)及び熱安定性向上剤、腐食防止剤、金属不活性化剤、潤滑性添加剤、粘度指数向上剤、流動点及び/又はフロック点降下剤、洗浄剤、分散剤、消泡剤、耐摩耗剤、及び極圧抵抗添加剤などの添加剤を意味する他の材料を含有することが好ましい。多くの添加剤が多機能である。例えば、ある添加剤は、抗摩耗及び極圧抵抗特性の両方を付与し得るか、又は金属不活性化剤及び腐食抑制剤の両方として機能し得る。累積的に、全ての添加剤は、性能添加剤パッケージと総称され、好ましくは全潤滑剤組成物の約10質量%を超えない。
合成のヒンダード有機ポリオールエステルを調製する場合、所望量のヒンダード有機ポリオールとカルボン酸を反応容器内に置く。典型的には、反応混合物に充填される酸の量は、最初に、それと反応するアルコールの当量に対して過剰な約1.1%から約1.2%までの当量の酸を提供するのに十分である。本願明細書の課題のために、酸の当量は、1グラム当量のカルボキシル基を有する量として定義されているが、アルコールの当量は、1グラム当量のヒドロキシル基を有する量である。エステル化反応は、水を除去しながら高められた温度で行われる。反応は、水の除去を容易にするために、トルエン又はキシレンなどの共沸溶媒中で反応物を還流することによって実施され得る。エステル化触媒を使用してもよいが、反応のために必要ではない。反応の完了時に、過剰の酸及び任意の溶媒は、真空ストリッピング又は蒸留によってエステル生成物から好都合に分離され得る。
特定の実施形態によって潤滑剤組成物の有益な特性を実証するために、ポリオールエステル基油を配合物する際に使用される分枝鎖酸の量が変化する潤滑剤組成物が作り出された。以下の表1は、様々な潤滑剤組成物を配合するために使用された成分を示す。2タイプの試験は、その後、得られた潤滑剤組成物の酸化特性を比較するために利用された。
この試験方法は、150℃で水及び銅触媒コイルの存在下で潤滑剤の酸化安定性を評価するために、酸素加圧容器を利用する。潤滑剤、水及び銅触媒コイルを、被覆されたガラス容器に入れ、次いで、この容器を、圧力計を備える容器内に配置する。酸素を620kPa(90psi)のゲージ圧まで容器に充填した後、これを恒温油浴又はドライブロック内に配置して150℃に加熱する。圧力容器を水平から30°の角度で100rpmで軸方向に回転させる。容器の圧力を、試験の間監視する。ゲージ圧(一般に最大圧力よりも低い175kPa又は25.4psi)の特定の降下に到達するのに必要な分単位の時間が、試験潤滑剤の酸化安定性(又は酸化寿命)である。この試験は、潤滑剤の酸化安定性を比較し、種々の試験潤滑剤から期待できる耐用寿命の量の相対的な格付けを行うために使用される。
この試験方法は、95℃で酸素、水、及び銅及び鉄触媒コイルの存在下で潤滑剤の酸化安定性の評価をカバーしている。潤滑剤、水、及び銅及び鉄触媒コイルをガラス試験管に入れた後、これを定温油浴中に置いて95℃に加熱する。酸素を、毎時3リットルの速度で潤滑剤に接触させるか又は泡立てる。潤滑剤の酸価はテストの間、監視されている。酸価(一般に2.0mgKOH/g以上)の特異的な増加に達するのに必要な時間数が、試験潤滑剤の酸化安定性(又は酸化寿命)である。この試験は、潤滑剤の酸化安定性を比較し、種々の潤滑剤から期待できる耐用寿命の量の相対的な格付けを行うために使用される。

前記潤滑剤組成物。 - 1種以上の追加の基油が、高級パラフィン性のフィッシャー−トロプシュ法由来の基液を含む、請求項1に記載の潤滑剤組成物。
- 分枝鎖カルボン酸が6個以上の炭素原子である鎖長を有する、請求項1又は2に記載の潤滑剤組成物。
- 分枝鎖カルボン酸が2−エチルヘキサン酸、イソノナン酸、及びそれらの組み合わせからなる群から選択される、請求項1から3までのいずれか1項に記載の潤滑剤組成物。
- 1種以上のヒンダード有機ポリオールが、モノペンタエリスリトール、ジペンタエリスリトール、トリペンタエリスリトール、及びテトラペンタエリスリトールからなる群から選択される1種以上のペンタエリスリトールを含むか、又は1種以上のヒンダード有機ポリオールがトリメチロールプロパン及びジ−トリメチロールプロパンからなる群から選択される1種以上のトリメチロールプロパンベースの成分を含む、請求項1から4までのいずれか1項に記載の潤滑剤組成物。
- オープンコンプレッサー用の潤滑剤組成物であって、前記潤滑剤が、
1種以上のヒンダード有機ポリオールと、
1種以上のカルボン酸の100モル%が分枝鎖状である、8個又は9個の炭素鎖長を有する1種以上のカルボン酸又はその両方と
を含む混合物の反応生成物である合成エステル基油を、潤滑剤組成物の総質量に対して10質量%〜35質量%、
ポリアルキレングリコール、ポリグリコールエーテル、ポリエーテル、ポリオレフィン、オレフィンコポリマー、ポリアルファオレフィン、ポリブテン、高級パラフィン性のフィッシャー−トロプシュ法由来の基液、及びそれらの混合物からなる群から選択される、1種以上の追加の基油を、潤滑剤組成物の総質量に対して55質量%〜90質量%、
;並びに
酸化防止剤成分を含む性能添加剤パッケージ

前記酸化防止剤成分が、潤滑剤組成物の総質量に対して0.3質量%〜5質量%の量で存在し、且つ、

、前記潤滑剤組成物。 - 前記1種以上の追加の基油が、高級パラフィン性のフィッシャー−トロプシュ法由来の基液を含む、請求項6に記載の潤滑油組成物。
- 装置の部品の潤滑方法であって、請求項1から7までのいずれか1項に記載の潤滑剤組成物を提供し且つ該潤滑剤でチャンバを充填するか又は該潤滑剤に装置の表面を曝すことを含む、前記潤滑方法。
- 装置が、空気圧縮機、ギアボックス、ベアリングセット、液圧システム、及びチェーンドライブからなる群から選択される、請求項8に記載の方法。
