Description
混繊物中に難燃レーヨンを使用すると、糸に水分率の高い繊維成分が加わるため、この糸を含む布帛から作製された衣服が着用者にとってより快適なものになると考えられている。FRレーヨン繊維を用いて作製された布帛は、良好な難燃性およびフラッシュ火災性能を有するが、最上級のアーク性能を有することは知られていない。驚くべきことに、混繊物中で、FRレーヨン繊維とモダクリル繊維とを特許請求する百分率で組み合わせると、水分率も快適性も改善された布帛および衣服を得ることが可能になり、それと同時に、高アーク等級の性能、高い難燃性、および場合によっては改善された火災性能が維持されることが見出された。
糸、布帛、および衣服の水分率は、ASTM Test Method D2654−89に従い測定した。
本実施例においては、結晶化度が少なくとも20%であるメタ系アラミド繊維と、モダクリル繊維、FRレーヨン繊維、およびパラ系アラミド繊維とを組み合わせた糸、布帛、および衣服を例示する。Nomex(登録商標)type 300繊維、Kevlar(登録商標)29繊維、DFG FRレーヨン繊維、およびモダクリル繊維の緊密な混繊物を用いて空気紡績した糸を経糸および緯糸の両方に使用して耐久性アークおよび熱防護布帛を作製した。Nomex(登録商標)type 301繊維は、結晶化度が33〜37%であるポリ(m−フェニレンイソフタルアミド)(MPD−I)繊維である。FRレーヨン繊維には、ダイワボウレーヨン株式会社から市販されているものを用いる。モダクリル繊維は、アンチモン6〜8%を含むACN/ポリ塩化ビニリデンコポリマー繊維(Protex(登録商標)Cとして市販されていることが周知)であり、株式会社カネカより入手可能である。Kevlar(登録商標)29繊維はポリ(p−フェニレンテレフタルアミド)(PPD−T)繊維であった。Nomex(登録商標)繊維およびKevlar(登録商標)繊維はいずれもE.I.du Pont de Nemours&Companyより入手可能である。
メタ系アラミド繊維を23重量%、パラ系アラミド繊維を10重量%、カーボン芯/ナイロン帯電防止繊維を2%、およびモダクリル繊維を65重量%の混繊物からなる比較用混繊物Aを用いて実施例1の手順を繰り返すことにより比較用布帛を製造した。次いでこの布帛についてもASTM Test Method D2654−89に従い水分率に関する試験を行った。得られた数値を表1に示す。実施例1の布帛の方が水分率がはるかに高く、この布帛の快適性が比較混繊物Aから作製された布帛よりも改善されているであろうことを示唆している。
表2に示す様々な量のメタ系アラミド繊維、パラ系アラミド繊維、モダクリル繊維、およびFRレーヨン繊維の混繊物である比較混繊物B〜Gを用いて他の布帛を作製したことを除いて実施例1の手順を繰り返した。次いで、各布帛の一部を用いてアーク性能に関する試験を行った。結果を表2に示す。
1. アークおよび火炎防護に使用するための糸であって、以下の成分(a)、(b)、(c)、および(d)の総重量を基準として、
(a)結晶化度が少なくとも20%であるメタ系アラミド繊維を10〜40重量パーセント、
(b)モダクリル繊維を20〜60重量パーセント、
(c)FRレーヨン繊維を15〜45重量パーセント、および
(d)パラ系アラミド繊維を5〜20重量パーセント
から基本的になる、糸。
2. 前記パラ系アラミド繊維の1〜3重量パーセントが炭素または金属を含む帯電防止繊維に置き換えられており、但し、パラ系アラミド繊維は少なくとも5重量パーセントに維持されている、上記1に記載の糸。
3. 前記メタ系アラミド繊維の結晶化度が20〜50パーセントの範囲にある、上記1に記載の糸。
4. 水分率が少なくとも3パーセントである、上記1に記載の糸。
5. アークおよび火炎防護に使用するのに好適な布帛であって、以下の成分(a)、(b)、(c)、および(d)の総重量を基準として、
(a)結晶化度が少なくとも20%であるメタ系アラミド繊維を10〜40重量パーセント、
(b)モダクリル繊維を20〜60重量パーセント、
(c)FRレーヨン繊維を15〜45重量パーセント、および
(d)パラ系アラミド繊維を5〜20重量パーセント
から基本的になる糸を含み、前記布帛の目付が135〜407グラム毎平方メートル(4〜12オンス毎平方ヤード)の範囲にある、布帛。
6. 前記パラ系アラミド繊維の1〜3重量パーセントが炭素または金属を含む帯電防止繊維に置き換えられており、但し、パラ系アラミド繊維は少なくとも5重量パーセントに維持されている、上記4に記載の布帛。
7. 水分率が少なくとも3パーセントである、上記5に記載の布帛。
8. ASTM D−6413−99に従う炭化長が6インチ未満である、上記4に記載の布帛。
9. ASTM F−1959−99に従う耐アーク性が1.2カロリー毎平方センチメートル毎オンス毎平方ヤード布帛超である、上記4に記載の布帛。
10. 前記メタ系アラミド繊維の結晶化度が20〜50%の範囲にある、上記4に記載の布帛。
11. アークおよび火炎防護に使用するのに好適な衣服であって、以下の成分(a)、(b)、(c)、および(d)の総重量を基準として、
(a)結晶化度が少なくとも20%であるメタ系アラミド繊維を10〜40重量パーセント、
(b)モダクリル繊維を20〜60重量パーセント、
(c)FRレーヨン繊維を15〜45重量パーセント、および
(d)パラ系アラミド繊維を5〜20重量パーセント
から基本的になる布帛を含み、前記布帛の目付が150〜339グラム毎平方メートル(4.5〜10オンス毎平方ヤード)の範囲にある、衣服。
12. 前記パラ系アラミド繊維の1〜3重量パーセントが炭素または金属を含む帯電防止繊維に置き換えられており、但し、パラ系アラミド繊維は少なくとも5重量パーセントに維持されている、上記9に記載の衣服。
13. ASTM F1930に従い火炎に4秒間暴露した場合の体の火傷を70%未満にすることに相当する熱防護を提供すると同時に、ASTM F1959およびNFPA 70Eに従うカテゴリー2のアーク等級を維持している、上記9に記載の衣服。
14. 前記布帛のASTM F−1959−99に従う耐アーク性が、1.2カロリー毎平方センチメートル毎オンス毎平方ヤード布帛超である、上記9に記載の衣服。
15. 水分率が少なくとも3パーセントである、上記5に記載の衣服。
Claims (3)
- アークおよび火炎防護に使用するための糸であって、以下の成分(a)、(b)、(c)、および(d)の総重量を基準として、
(a)結晶化度が少なくとも20%であるメタ系アラミド繊維を10〜40重量パーセント、
(b)モダクリル繊維を20〜60重量パーセント、
(c)FRレーヨン繊維を15〜45重量パーセント、および
(d)パラ系アラミド繊維を5〜20重量パーセント
から基本的になる、糸。 - アークおよび火炎防護に使用するのに好適な布帛であって、以下の成分(a)、(b)、(c)、および(d)の総重量を基準として、
(a)結晶化度が少なくとも20%であるメタ系アラミド繊維を10〜40重量パーセント、
(b)モダクリル繊維を20〜60重量パーセント、
(c)FRレーヨン繊維を15〜45重量パーセント、および
(d)パラ系アラミド繊維を5〜20重量パーセント
