Description
本願は、2009年11月9日に出願の米国特許出願第61/280815号「Metal fluoride compositions for self−formed batteries」の優先権の利益を請求するものであり、その内容は参照により全て本明細書に組み込まれる。
本発明は政府の支援のもとに成された。政府は、本発明において一定の権利を有する。
本明細書で使用の用語「非晶質」とは、長距離結晶構造を有していないこと又はナノ構造相(<100nm)範囲とX線回折で確認できる秩序のない相とから成るコンポジットを意味する。
一態様において、記載の発明は電子絶縁非晶質又はナノ結晶混合イオン伝導体組成物を提供し、この組成物は、
(1)金属フッ化物コンポジットを含み、
該金属フッ化物コンポジットに電位を印加すると
(a)負電極、及び
(b)正電極
を形成し、
該負電極及び該正電極はインシチュで形成される。
加えて、伝導イオンはカチオンである。更に、このカチオンはアルカリ金属である。アルカリ金属には、以下に限定するものではないが、リチウム、ナトリウム、カリウム、ルビジウム、セシウム及びフランシウムが含まれる。
加えて、非晶質又はナノ結晶混合イオン伝導体は、ガラス形成剤を更に含む。更に、このガラス形成剤はフッ化物である。更に、ガラス形成剤はZrF4である。更に、ガラス形成剤はAlF3である。更に、ガラス形成剤はHfF3である。更に、ガラス形成剤はScF3である。更に、ガラス形成剤はThF3である。更に、ガラス形成剤はInF3である。更に、ガラス形成剤はZbF2である。更に、ガラス形成剤はUF3である。更に、ガラス形成剤はYF3である。更に、ガラス形成剤はGaF3である。更に、ガラス形成剤はZnF2である。更に、ガラス形成剤はInF3である。
加えて、非晶質又はナノ結晶混合イオン伝導体は、ガラス網目修飾剤を更に含む。
加えて、非晶質又はナノ結晶混合イオン伝導体は組成傾斜材料として形成され、この材料は、組成物の一部の電気化学的な酸化による正電極の形成又は電気化学的な還元による負電極の形成を可能にする。
加えて、組成物は正極集電体に近接して銀を含む。加えて、組成物は正極集電体に近接してビスマスを含む。加えて、組成物は正極集電体に近接してパラジウムを含む。加えて、組成物は正極集電体に近接して金を含む。加えて、組成物は正極集電体に近接して銅を含む。加えて、組成物は正極集電体に近接してモリブデンを含む。
加えて、負電極は、負極集電体との反応によって形成される。
加えて、非晶質又はナノ結晶混合イオン伝導体はイオン液体を含む。
(1)電子絶縁非晶質又はナノ結晶混合イオン伝導体組成物を含み、該組成物は、
(a)金属フッ化物コンポジットを含み、
該金属フッ化物コンポジットに電位を印加すると
(i)負電極、及び
(ii)正電極
を形成し、
該負電極及び該正電極はインシチュで形成される。
フッ化物及びフッ化物/Li伝導体の様々なおおむね非晶質の組成物が、記載の発明にとって有用な組成物のタイプの例として表1の通りに調製された。「混合物」とは、サンプル組成物の厚さのことである。「Ag」を、反応性正及び負電極として利用する。「Ti」は、ガラス基板とAg櫛形電極との間に堆積させたTiの接着補助剤の厚さを示す。
表1に従って、ガラス形成剤としてのAlF3を含有する様々な組成物を、その物理的及び電気化学的性質に関して調査した。図1Bは、LiFリチウム伝導体及び様々なフッ化物伝導ガラス網目修飾剤を利用して調製したAlF3/LiF/CaF2組成物のXRDプロファイルを表す強度(任意単位)対角度(2θ)のプロットである。図からわかるように、全てのサンプルが高い非晶性を示し、CaF2リッチな組成物のCaF2ナノ相に関係して若干のブラッグ反射が2θ値47〜48°に見られる。図2Aは、非晶質組成物AlF3/LiF/CaF2の電流(mA)対セル電圧のプロットであり、非晶質組成物のポテンショダイナミックスイープを示している。図2Aからわかるように、最初の充電でバッテリ形成に関係する大きなアノード電流が発生している。続く放電は、2〜4Vの電圧領域における大きなカソード電流を示す。これは形成されたLi−Ag合金/固体電解質/AgFx系バッテリと一致している。続くサイクルは、組成物のサイクル安定性が優れていることを示す。より多くのLiFを含有する組成物に関してより高い電気化学的有用性が見られる。図3は、5Vの定電流で充電したこのようなセルについての放電プロファイルを表す電圧対時間のプロットである。図からわかるように、有用な電圧でバッテリからかなりの容量が得られる。
表1に従って、ガラス形成剤としてのZrF4を含有する様々な組成物を、正電極及び負電極の両方の反応性集電体の上への堆積後に、その物理的及び電気化学的性質に関して調査した。図4は、LiFリチウム伝導体及び様々なフッ化物伝導ガラス網目修飾剤を利用して調製したZrF4/LiF/CaF2組成物のXRDプロファイルを表す強度(任意単位)対角度(2θ)のプロットである。図からわかるように、全てのサンプルが高い非晶性を示し、組成物中のCaF2量が最も多いサンプルに関してCaF2ナノ相に関係してごくわずかなブラッグ反射が2θ値46〜48°に見られる。図5は、非晶質組成物ZrF4/LiF/CaF2及びCaF2の代わりにBaF2を含む非晶質組成物のポテンショダイナミック応答を比較した電流(mA)対電圧のプロットである。図5からわかるように、最初の充電でバッテリ形成に関係する大きなアノード電流が発生している。続く放電は、2〜4Vの電圧領域における大きなカソード電流を示す。これは形成されたLi−Ag合金/固体電解質/AgFx系バッテリと一致している。実施例2のAlF3研究と同様に、最も高いLiF含有量の組成物は、最も高い電気化学的有用性を示した。図5のポテンショダイナミックスイープはまた、BaF2修飾フッ化物組成物が大きな電気化学的有用性を実証したことを示す。続くサイクルは、組成物のサイクル安定性が優れていることを示す。
図7は、0.143MeFx−0.428LiF−0.428CaF2(Me=Al、Hf及びZr)の組成物のポテンショダイナミック応答を比較した電流(mA)対セル電圧のプロットである。3種類の組成物の全てが非晶質膜となった。正電極及び負電極の両方の反応性集電体の上への堆積後、3種類の膜の全てで大きな電気化学的活性及び良好な可逆性が得られた。図8は、0.143MeFx−0.714LiF−0.143CaF2(Me=Al、Hf及びZr)の組成物のポテンショダイナミック応答を比較した電流(mA)対セル電圧のプロットである。3つの例に関し、最高の電気化学的有用性は、AlF3ガラス形成剤を利用した組成物について観察された。しかしながら、LiF組成を0.143MeFx−0.714LiF−0.143CaF2に上昇させると、図8は、ZrF4ガラス形成剤に関して最高の電気化学的有用性が観察されることを示す。
図9は電気化学的に形成されたセルの一実施形態の概略図である。LiF:ZrF4の2成分組成物は、2つの銀反応性集電体の間に置かれる。次に、セルを電気的に分極させることによって、負極反応性集電体に向かってのLi+イオン拡散を誘起し、負極反応性集電体でLi+イオンは還元されてLixAg合金を形成する。併発反応において、F-イオンは正電極に向かって拡散し、酸化反応を通じてフッ化銀を形成する。その後、セルを放電させて開始成分を復旧させ得る。
Bi−Ca合金正極反応性集電体を、以下の表2に記載されるような様々な比で堆積させた。
Bi−Ag合金正極反応性集電体を、表3に記載されるような様々な比で堆積させた。
Bi−KF合金正極反応性集電体を、表4に記載されるような様々な比で堆積させた。
様々な負極/正極集電体対を厚さ500nmで堆積することによって、記載の発明の得られる電気化学的性質に関する、選択された化学反応の柔軟性及び影響を実証した。セルを、連続的により長時間にわたって5Vで充電/形成し、各期間後に10nAで放電した。得られた放電曲線を図15に示す。図15Aは、連続的なより長時間にわたるセル形成後の約90:1の非晶質LiF−ZrF4組成物を利用したBi負極/Bi正極集電体対の電圧対時間(時間)のプロットである。図15Bは、連続的なより長時間にわたるセル形成後の約90:1の非晶質LiF−ZrF4組成物を利用したAg負極/Ag正極集電体対の電圧対時間(時間)のプロットである。図15Cは、連続的なより長時間にわたるセル形成後の約90:1の非晶質LiF−ZrF4組成物を利用したAg負極/Bi正極集電体対の電圧対時間(時間)のプロットである。図15Dは、連続的なより長時間にわたるセル形成後の約90:1の非晶質LiF−ZrF4組成物を利用したTi負極/Bi正極集電体対の電圧対時間(時間)のプロットである。これらのデータからわかるように、集電体対の選択は、セルの平均電圧及び電気化学的利用にはっきりとした影響を及ぼす。Ag及びTi負極集電体の両方の使用によってBiの場合より高い電圧が得られることが判明した。理論によって拘束されるものでないが、これはのちに形成されるセルにおけるTi上にめっきされたLi、Li−Ag合金及びLi−Biの予測される電圧と一致する。
本発明のまた別の態様は、以下のとおりであってもよい。
〔1〕電子絶縁非晶質又はナノ結晶混合イオン伝導体組成物であって、
電位を印加すると
(a)負電極、及び
(b)正電極、
を形成する金属フッ化物コンポジットを含み、前記負電極及び前記正電極がインシチュで形成されることを特徴とする組成物。
〔2〕電荷キャリアとしてのイオンで導電する、前記〔1〕に記載の組成物。
〔3〕前記導電イオンがカチオン及びアニオンである、前記〔2〕に記載の組成物。
〔4〕前記アニオンがフッ化物イオンである、前記〔3〕に記載の組成物。
〔5〕前記カチオンがアルカリ金属である、前記〔3〕に記載の組成物。
〔6〕前記アルカリ金属がリチウムである、前記〔5〕に記載の組成物。
〔7〕非晶質イオン伝導体組成物がガラス形成剤を更に含む、前記〔1〕〜〔4〕のいずれか1項に記載の組成物。
〔8〕前記ガラス形成剤がフッ化物である、前記〔7〕に記載の組成物。
〔9〕前記ガラス形成剤が、AlF 3 、ZrF 4 、GaF 3 、HfF 4 、YbF 3 、ThF 3 、ZnF 2 、InF 3 、ZbF 2 、UF 3 及びYF 3 から成る群から選択される、前記〔7〕に記載の組成物。
〔10〕非晶質イオン伝導体組成物がフッ化物ガラス網目修飾剤を更に含む、前記〔1〕〜〔4〕のいずれか1項に記載の組成物。
〔11〕前記フッ化物ガラス網目修飾剤が、既知のフッ化物伝導体である又はフッ化物伝導性に寄与する、前記〔10〕に記載の組成物。
〔12〕前記ガラス網目修飾剤が、LaF 3 、BiF 3 、PbF 2 、KF、CaF 2 、BaF 2 、SnF 2 、SrF 2 又は希土類金属フッ化物から成る群から選択される、前記〔10〕に記載の組成物。
〔13〕前記リチウムが、既知のリチウムイオン伝導体を更に含む、前記〔6〕に記載の組成物。
〔14〕前記リチウムがLiFである、前記〔6〕に記載の組成物。
〔15〕前記正電極が、正極集電体との反応によって形成される、前記〔1〕に記載の組成物。
〔16〕前記正極反応性集電体が、Ag、Au、Bi、Pb、Sn、Cu、Pt、Pd、Fe、Mn、Ni、Mo、V又はこれらの組み合わせのうちの少なくとも1種を含む、前記〔15〕に記載の組成物。
〔17〕前記正極反応性集電体が、La、Ca、Ba、Sr、O及びSのうちの少なくとも1種を含む、前記〔16〕に記載の組成物。

Claims (21)
- 自己形成バッテリのための材料であって、該材料が、
電子絶縁性でイオン伝導性である、非晶質又はナノ結晶性の混合イオン伝導体組成物であって、該組成物に電位を印加すると負電極及び正電極をインシチュで形成する前記組成物と、
前記組成物と共に配置される正極反応性集電体及び負極反応性集電体
との組み合わせであり、
前記組成物がアルカリ金属フッ化物及び金属フッ化物ガラス形成剤を含み、前記アルカリ金属フッ化物:前記金属フッ化物ガラス形成剤のモル比が9:1〜1:1であり、
前記金属フッ化物ガラス形成剤が、AlF3、ZrF4、GaF3、HfF4、YbF3、ThF3、ZnF2、InF3、UF3、YF3及びこれらの組合せから成る群から選択される、前記材料。 - 前記組成物が電荷キャリアとしての導電イオンで導電する、請求項1に記載の材料。
- 前記導電イオンがカチオン及びアニオンである、請求項2に記載の材料。
- 前記アニオンがフッ化物アニオンである、請求項3に記載の材料。
- 前記カチオンがアルカリ金属のカチオンである、請求項3に記載の材料。
