Description
Claims (23)
- 単位画素を含む液晶表示パネルであって、
前記単位画素は、第1の配向膜を有する第1の基板と、前記第1の配向膜から離隔し対向する第2の配向膜を有する第2の基板と、前記第1の配向膜と前記第2の配向膜間に介在する液晶層と、を備え、
前記単位画素は、隣接した複数のドメインと、前記隣接した複数のドメイン間を定義するドメイン境界領域と、前記ドメイン境界領域に隣接する正常輝度領域とを有し、前記ドメイン境界領域内の前記第1の配向膜及び前記第2の配向膜のプレチルト角は、前記正常輝度領域内の前記第1の配向膜及び前記第2の配向膜のプレチルト角より大きいことを特徴とする液晶表示パネル。 - 前記ドメイン境界領域が前記正常輝度領域に隣接した前記ドメイン境界領域の一側から前記ドメイン境界領域の他側に伸張されるほど、前記ドメイン境界領域の中の少なくとも1つの液晶分子のプレチルト角が大きくなることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の液晶表示パネル。
- 複数のドメイン境界テクスチャ(DBT)が前記ドメイン境界領域のそれぞれに形成され、
前記隣接したドメイン間の前記ドメイン境界領域の幅の和は、前記隣接したドメイン間の前記ドメイン境界テクスチャの幅の和より大きいことを特徴とする請求項1又は2に記載の液晶表示パネル。 - 前記ドメイン境界領域のそれぞれの幅は、5.0μmより大きいことを特徴とする請求項1〜3のいずれかに記載の液晶表示パネル。
- 前記ドメイン境界領域の液晶分子のプレチルト角は、1.8°より大きいことを特徴とする請求項1〜4のいずれかに記載の液晶表示パネル。
- 前記正常輝度領域の液晶分子のプレチルト角は、前記ドメイン境界領域の液晶分子のプレチルト角より0.2°以上小さいことを特徴とする請求項5に記載の液晶表示パネル。
- 前記ドメイン境界領域の各々で前記第1の配向膜の配向ベクトルを前記第2の配向膜の配向ベクトルに加算することにより得られたドメイン境界領域配向ベクトルの大きさが、前記第1の配向膜の配向ベクトルと第2の配向膜の配向ベクトルとを合わせた正常輝度領域配向ベクトルの大きさより大きい、ことを特徴とする請求項1に記載の液晶表示パネル。
- 前記第2の配向膜は、それぞれ反対方向に向かう第1の配向ベクトルと第2の配向ベクトルとを有し、前記第1の配向膜は、前記第1の配向ベクトル及び前記第2の配向ベクトルに垂直であり、それぞれ反対方向に向かう第3の配向ベクトルと第4の配向ベクトルとを有し、
前記単位画素は、前記第1乃至第4の配向ベクトルから決定された異なる4つの正常輝度領域配向ベクトルを有することを特徴とする請求項7に記載の液晶表示パネル。 - 前記液晶表示パネルは、前記正常輝度領域配向ベクトルと45°の角で交差する第1の偏光軸及び第2の偏光軸をそれぞれ有する第1の偏光板及び第2の偏光板をさらに備え、
前記ドメイン境界領域は、前記第1の偏光軸又は前記第2の偏光軸に平行に配列される液晶分子を有するドメイン境界テクスチャ(DBT)領域と前記第1の偏光軸又は前記第2の偏光軸と交差する液晶分子を有する輝度改善領域とを有することを特徴とする請求項7又は8に記載の液晶表示パネル。 - 前記単位画素は、
前記第1の基板上に形成される画素電極と、
前記第1の基板上の前記画素電極の周辺に配置され、不透明材質を含む電極である配線パターンと、
第2の基板上に形成される共通電極とをさらに有し、
前記画素電極は、ドメイン境界テクスチャにより区分される複数のドメインと前記共通電極との間に形成されるフリンジフィールドテクスチャが位置する前記画素電極のエッジ領域で突起部を有し、前記突起部は、前記配線パターンと重なることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の液晶表示パネル。 - 前記画素電極は、実質的に長方形であり、前記画素電極の一辺は、前記突起部及び前記突起部と連続して形成される凹部を有することを特徴とする請求項10に記載の液晶表示パネル。
- 前記配線パターンは、前記画素電極のエッジと部分的に重なるストレージ電極を含み、前記突起部は、前記ストレージ電極と重なることを特徴とする請求項10又は11に記載の液晶表示パネル。
- 前記配線パターンは、前記画素電極から離隔したデータラインを含み、前記突起部は、前記データラインと重なることを特徴とする請求項10〜12のいずれかに記載の液晶表示パネル。
- 前記単位画素の前記配線パターンは、前記画素電極の突起部と部分的に重なるストレージ電極と前記画素電極のエッジから離隔したデータラインとを含み、前記画素電極は、その一辺上の前記突起部及び前記突起部に連続して形成される凹部を有し、
前記単位画素の前記データライン及び前記ストレージ電極は、前記画素電極の前記突起部と前記凹部とが接触する領域の付近で相互に交差することを特徴とする請求項10〜13のいずれかに記載の液晶表示パネル。 - 前記第2の基板は、前記第2の基板の背面から入射する光を遮断するブラックマトリックスをさらに有し、前記ブラックマトリックスは、前記第1の基板上の画素電極の突起部、前記ストレージ電極、及び前記データラインを覆うように配置されることを特徴とする請求項14に記載の液晶表示パネル。
- 請求項1に記載の液晶表示パネルを製造するための単位マスキングパターンを含むマスクであって、
前記単位マスキングパターンは、非照射部パターン、前記ドメイン境界領域に対応するドメイン境界領域パターン、及び前記正常輝度領域に対応する正常輝度領域パターンが順に形成される実質的に長方形パターンを有し、
前記非照射部パターンは、前記単位マスキングパターンの一辺に位置し、光を完全に遮断する非照射部の第1の遮光領域を有し、
前記正常輝度領域パターンは、第1の透光領域及び第2の遮光領域を備え、前記第1の透光領域の面積を前記正常輝度領域パターンの面積で割った正常輝度領域の透過率比を有し、
前記ドメイン境界領域パターンは、第2の透光領域及び第3の遮光領域を備え、前記第2の透光領域の面積を前記ドメイン境界領域パターンの面積で割ったドメイン境界領域の透過率比を有し、
前記ドメイン境界領域パターンの透過率比は、前記正常輝度領域パターンの透過率比より大きいことを特徴とするマスク。 - 前記ドメイン境界領域パターンは、相互に隣接する第1の照射部及び第2の照射部を有し、
前記第1の照射部は、前記非照射部パターンに接し、前記第2の照射部は、前記正常輝度領域パターンに接し、
前記第1の照射部の全体は、透光部でなされ、
前記第2の照射部は、第3の透光領域及び第3の遮光領域でなされることを特徴とする請求項16に記載のマスク。 - 前記第2の照射部の前記第3の遮光領域は、前記正常輝度領域パターンに平行である遮光長さを有し、前記遮光長さは、前記第3の遮光領域が前記正常輝度領域パターンから遠くなるほど短くなることを特徴とする請求項17に記載のマスク。
- 前記第2の照射部の前記第3の遮光領域は、前記正常輝度領域パターンに接している下辺を有する二等辺三角形であることを特徴とする請求項18に記載のマスク。
- 前記マスクは、前記単位マスキングパターンが反復して配置される方向に垂直である方向に移動し、前記ドメイン境界領域パターンの第3の遮光領域は、前記マスクが移動する方向に平行である方向の遮光長さを有し、前記遮光長さは、前記第3の遮光領域が前記正常輝度領域パターンに近くなるほど長くなり、前記第3の遮光領域が前記第1の照射部に近くなるほど短くなることを特徴とする請求項16〜19のいずれかに記載のマスク。
- 前記ドメイン境界領域パターンは、5μm以上の幅を有することを特徴とする請求項16〜20のいずれかに記載のマスク。
- 前記ドメイン境界領域パターンは、8μm以下の幅を有することを特徴とする請求項21に記載のマスク。
- 前記正常輝度領域パターンの透過率比は、25%から35%の範囲であることを特徴とする請求項16〜22のいずれかに記載のマスク。
