Description
〈全体構成〉
図1は本発明の実施形態1の液晶表示装置の全体構成を説明するための図であり、以下、図1に基づいて、実施形態1の液晶表示装置の全体構成を説明する。
図2は本発明の実施形態1の液晶表示装置における画素構成を説明するための上面図であり、図3は図2に示すB−B線における断面図であり、図4は図2に示すC−C線における断面図である。以下、図2〜図4に基づいて、実施形態1の液晶表示装置における画素構造を説明する。ただし、説明を簡単にするために、図2〜図4には第1基板のみを示し、周知の配向膜は省略する。また、遮光膜SBの形成を含む薄膜の形成は公知のフォトリソグラフィ技術により可能となるので、その形成方法の詳細な説明は省略する。
以下、図2及び図4に基づいて、遮光膜の詳細構成について説明する。図2から明らかなように、実施形態1の液晶表示装置の遮光膜SBはドレイン線から延在する金属薄膜で形成され、2つの領域(上側領域と下側領域)の境界部分に形成される電極の辺縁部分の形状に沿った辺を有する形状となっている。すなわち、実施形態1の画素では、図2中の上側の領域に形成されるスリットSLTは図中左側から右側にかけて右側下がりの形状となっているので、このスリットSLTによって形成される線状電極も右側下がりの形状となる。一方、図2中の下側の領域に形成されるスリットSLTは図中左側から右側にかけて右側上がりの形状となっているので、このスリットSLTによって形成される線状電極も右側上がりの形状となる。
図8は本発明の実施形態2の液晶表示装置における画素構成を説明するための上面図であり、図9は本発明の実施形態2の液晶表示装置における画素パターンの拡大図である。ただし、図9においても実施形態2の遮光膜を明確にするために、ドレイン線DLのパターンと異なるハッチングで遮光膜SB2を示している。また、実施形態2の液晶表示装置は遮光膜SB2の構成が異なるのみで、他の構成は実施形態1の液晶表示装置と同様の構成である。従って、以下の説明では、遮光膜SB2の構成について詳細に説明する。

Claims (9)
- 複数本のドレイン線と、前記ドレイン線と交差する複数本のゲート線とを備え、前記ドレイン線と前記ゲート線とで囲まれる領域を画素の領域とする液晶表示装置であって、
前記画素の領域は、平面状の面状電極と、絶縁層を介して前記面状電極に重畳して形成され、第1方向に延在する複数の線状の線状電極とを有する第1画素領域と、
前記面状電極と、前記絶縁層を介して前記面状電極に重畳して形成され、第2方向に延在する複数の線状の線状電極とを有する第2画素領域とからなり、
前記第1画素領域と前記第2画素領域とに挟まれた領域に形成され、前記第1方向に傾斜する辺縁部と前記第2方向に傾斜する辺縁部とを有する境界部電極と、
前記境界部電極に重畳して形成されると共に、前記第1方向及び前記第2方向に傾斜する前記境界部電極の辺縁部に沿って形成される辺を有する遮光膜とを備え、
前記遮光膜は、前記ドレイン線と同一の層に形成される金属薄膜からなり、前記ドレイン線と電気的に接続されることを特徴とする液晶表示装置。 - 前記遮光膜は、各画素の領域を囲む一対の前記ドレイン線からそれぞれ突出して形成されることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記一対のドレイン線から突出される遮光膜は、同じ面積であることを特徴とする請求項2に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 複数本のドレイン線と、前記ドレイン線と交差する複数本のゲート線とを備え、前記ドレイン線と前記ゲート線とに囲まれた領域を画素の領域とする第1基板と、前記第1基板と対向して配置される第2基板と、前記第1基板と前記第2基板とで狭持される液晶層とを有する液晶表示パネル備え、前記液晶表示パネルの背面からバックライト光が照射される液晶表示装置であって、
前記画素の領域は、平面状の第1電極と、絶縁層を介して前記第1電極に重畳して形成される線状の第2電極とを有し、
前記第2電極は、第1方向に延在する線状電極と、第2方向に延在する線状電極と、前記第1方向に延在する線状電極と前記第2方向に延在する線状電極との境界領域において前記第1方向と前記第2方向との線状電極が一体に形成される電極とからなり、
前記第1方向と前記第2方向との線状電極が一体に形成される電極と重畳して形成される遮光膜を備え、
前記遮光膜は、前記ドレイン線と同一の層に形成される金属薄膜からなり、前記ドレイン線と電気的に接続されると共に、前記第1方向と前記第2方向との線状電極が一体に形成される電極を透過するバックライト光を遮光することを特徴とする液晶表示装置。 - 前記遮光膜は、画素の領域を囲む一対の前記ドレイン線からそれぞれ突出して形成されることを特徴とする請求項4に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記一対のドレイン線から突出される遮光膜は、同じ面積であることを特徴とする請求項5に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 複数本のドレイン線と、前記ドレイン線と交差する複数本のゲート線とを備え、前記ドレイン線と前記ゲート線とで囲まれる領域を画素の領域とする液晶表示装置であって、
前記画素の領域は、平面状の第1電極と、絶縁層を介して前記第1電極に重畳して形成される線状の電極と両端が閉じたスリットとからなる第2電極とを有し、
前記スリットの端部と重畳される遮光膜を備え、
前記遮光膜は、前記ドレイン線と同一の層に形成される金属薄膜からなり、前記ドレイン線と電気的に接続されることを特徴とする液晶表示装置。 - 前記遮光膜は、画素の領域を囲む一対の前記ドレイン線からそれぞれ突出して形成されることを特徴とする請求項7に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記一対のドレイン線から突出される遮光膜は、同じ面積であることを特徴とする請求項8に記載の液晶表示装置。
