Description
液晶表示装置を、図1、図3、図18乃至図24を用いて説明する。
本明細書に開示する発明の一形態として、本実施の形態では、アクティブマトリクス型の液晶表示装置の例を、図2及び図17を用いて説明する。
実施の形態2において、カラーフィルタを液晶層を挟持する基板の外側に設ける例を図4に示す。なお、実施の形態1及び実施の形態2と同様なものに関しては同様の材料及び作製方法を適用することができ、同一部分又は同様な機能を有する部分の詳細な説明は省略する。
遮光層(ブラックマトリクス)を有する液晶表示装置を、図5を用いて説明する。

実施の形態2乃至5において、液晶表示装置に適用できる薄膜トランジスタの他の例を示す。なお、実施の形態2乃至5と同様なものに関しては同様の材料及び作製方法を適用することができ、同一部分又は同様な機能を有する部分の詳細な説明は省略する。

実施の形態2乃至5において、液晶表示装置に適用できる薄膜トランジスタの他の例を示す。特に薄膜トランジスタの構造及び半導体層に用いる半導体材料の例であり、他の実施の形態2乃至5と同様なものに関しては同様の材料及び作製方法を適用することができ、同一部分又は同様な機能を有する部分の詳細な説明は省略する。
上記実施の形態2乃至8において、薄膜トランジスタの半導体層に用いることのできる材料の例を説明する。本明細書で開示する液晶表示装置が有する薄膜トランジスタの半導体層に用いられる半導体材料は特に限定されない。
本実施の形態では、液晶表示装置の一形態を図25のブロック図及び図26のタイミングチャートを用いて説明する。
薄膜トランジスタを作製し、該薄膜トランジスタを画素部、さらには駆動回路に用いて表示機能を有する液晶表示装置を作製することができる。また、薄膜トランジスタを駆動回路の一部または全体を、画素部と同じ基板上に一体形成し、システムオンパネルを形成することができる。
本明細書に開示する液晶表示装置は、さまざまな電子機器(遊技機も含む)に適用することができる。電子機器としては、例えば、テレビジョン装置(テレビ、またはテレビジョン受信機ともいう)、コンピュータ用などのモニタ、デジタルカメラ、デジタルビデオカメラ、デジタルフォトフレーム、携帯電話機(携帯電話、携帯電話装置ともいう)、携帯型ゲーム機、携帯情報端末、音響再生装置、パチンコ機などの大型ゲーム機などが挙げられる。
Claims (2)
- 第1の基板と、第2の基板と、液晶層と、第1の構造体と、第2の構造体と、第1の電極層と、第2の電極層と、を有し、
前記液晶層は、ブルー相を呈することができる液晶材料を有し、
前記液晶層は、前記第1の基板と前記第2の基板の間に設けられ、
前記第1の電極層、前記第2の電極層、前記第1の構造体、及び前記第2の構造体は、前記第1の基板に設けられ、
前記第1の構造体は、前記第1の電極層上に設けられ、
前記第2の構造体は、前記第2の電極層上に設けられ、
前記第1の構造体は、前記液晶層中に突出した領域を有し、
前記第2の構造体は、前記液晶層中に突出した領域を有し、
前記第1の構造体の誘電率は、前記液晶層の誘電率より高く、
前記第2の構造体の誘電率は、前記液晶層の誘電率より高く、
前記第1の電極層と前記第2の電極層との間に電界を加えることで、前記液晶層の配向を制御することができる機能を有し、
前記第1の構造体は、柱状の形状、錐形の先端が平面である断面が台形の形状、又は錐形の先端が丸いドーム状の形状を有し、
前記第2の構造体は、柱状の形状、錐形の先端が平面である断面が台形の形状、又は錐形の先端が丸いドーム状の形状を有することを特徴とする液晶表示装置。 - 請求項1において、
前記第1の構造体は、前記第2の基板と接する領域を有し、
