Description
コージェライト質セラミックハニカムフィルタを製造する本発明の方法は、外径が150 mm以上のコージェライト質セラミックハニカム焼成体の所定の流路にコージェライト化原料からなる目封止材を注入し乾燥した後、前記目封止部を焼成する工程を有し、前記焼成工程は昇温過程、温度保持過程及び降温過程を有し、前記昇温過程で800℃から1350〜1450℃の最高保持温度までを70〜500℃/hrの昇温速度で昇温することを特徴とする。800℃から最高保持温度までの昇温は、通常約50℃/hrで行うが、本発明の方法においては、70〜500℃/hrという著しく速い速度で行う。
カオリン、タルク、シリカ、アルミナの粉末から、50質量%のSiO2、35質量%のAl2O3及び15質量%のMgOを含むコーディエライト生成原料粉末を調製し、メチルセルロース、ヒドロキシプロピルメチルセルロース等のバインダー、潤滑材、造孔剤としてグラファイトを添加し、乾式で十分混練した後、水を添加し、十分な混練を行って可塑化したセラミック坏土を作成した。この坏土を押出し成形し、切断し、ハニカム構造を有する成形体を得た。この成形体を乾燥後、最高保持温度1400℃で焼成し、隔壁の厚さ0.3 mm、気孔率65%、平均細孔径20μm、隔壁ピッチ1.5 mm、外径が280 mm及び全長が310 mmのコーディエライト質ハニカム構造体11を得た。
目封止部形成用のスラリーに用いたシリカの平均粒径及びコージェライト化原料に対する添加量、800℃から最高保持温度(1390℃)までの昇温速度、最高保持温度(1390℃)から800℃までの降温速度、焼成炉(バッチ式炉、プッシャ形連続炉、ローラーハース形連続炉)を表1に示すように変更した以外は、比較例1と同様にして、コーディエライト質セラミックハニカムフィルタを作製した。実施例9で行った焼成工程における、炉内の温度と時間の関係を図3に示す。
800℃から1100℃までの昇温速度、1100℃から最高保持温度(1390℃)までの昇温速度、最高保持温度(1390℃)から800℃までの降温速度を表2に示すように変更した以外は、実施例6と同様にして、コーディエライト質セラミックハニカムフィルタを作製した。

Claims (5)
- 外径が150 mm以上のコージェライト質セラミックハニカム焼成体の所定の流路にコージェライト化原料からなる目封止材を注入し乾燥した後、前記目封止部を焼成する工程を有するコージェライト質セラミックハニカムフィルタの製造方法であって、前記焼成工程は昇温過程、温度保持過程及び降温過程を有し、前記昇温過程で800℃から1350〜1450℃の最高保持温度までを70〜500℃/hrの昇温速度で昇温することを特徴とするコージェライト質セラミックハニカムフィルタの製造方法。
- 請求項1に記載のコージェライト質セラミックハニカムフィルタの製造方法において、前記降温過程で最高保持温度から800℃までに30〜400℃/hrの降温速度を有することを特徴とするコージェライト質セラミックハニカムフィルタの製造方法。
- 請求項1又は2に記載のコージェライト質セラミックハニカムフィルタの製造方法において、前記コージェライト化原料が平均粒径5〜25μmのシリカを5〜22質量%含有することを特徴とするコージェライト質セラミックハニカムフィルタの製造方法。
- 請求項1〜3のいずれかに記載のコージェライト質セラミックハニカムフィルタの製造方法において、前記焼成を連続式の炉で行うことを特徴とするコージェライト質セラミックハニカムフィルタの製造方法。
- 請求項4に記載のコージェライト質セラミックハニカムフィルタの製造方法において、前記連続式の炉がローラーハース形であることを特徴とするコージェライト質セラミックハニカムフィルタの製造方法。
