Description
(a)三次元複合体を含んでいて、その複合体が、
(i)20〜48体積%の有機結合材料と結合した20〜48体積%の砥粒と、10体積%未満の気孔とを含んでいて上記複合体の連続相を形成しており、50〜100体積%の砥粒が、その砥粒を無機結合材料と焼結させることによって複数の砥粒が凝集した形態になっている第1の相と;
(ii)16〜34体積%の気孔からなる第2の相とで構成されていて;
硬さのグレードが、ノートン社の硬さスケールでJとSの間であり、最小破壊速度が6000sfpm(30.48m/秒)である結合砥石車を用意するステップと;
(b)その結合砥石車をセンターレス研削機械に取り付けるステップと;
(c)その砥石車を回転させるステップと;
(d)その砥石車の研削面を、調整車によって回転させられていて、研削するのに十分な時間にわたって工作物固定用部材によって支持されている工作物と接触させるステップを含んでいることにより、
上記砥石車が工作物から材料を優れた材料除去速度で除去し、その砥石車の研削面が実質的に削り屑なしの状態に留まり、研削が終了した後に上記工作物が実質的に熱による損傷を受けていない状態である方法である。
(a)20〜48体積%の有機結合材料と結合した20〜48体積%の砥粒と、10体積%未満の気孔とを含んでいて上記複合体の連続相を形成しており、50〜100体積%の砥粒が、その砥粒を無機結合材料と焼結させることによって複数の砥粒が凝集した形態になっている第1の相と;
(b)16〜34体積%の気孔からなる第2の相とで構成されていて;
硬さのグレードが、ノートン社の硬さスケールでJとSの間であり、最小破壊速度が6000sfpm(30.48m/秒)であることを特徴とする結合研削工具の中から行なうことができる。
ガラス化した結合材料(表1-1、脚注bとcを参照のこと)を使用して凝集した砥粒を作った。この凝集体は、アメリカ合衆国特許出願シリアル番号第10/120,969号の実施例1に記載されている回転式焼成法に従い、以下に示す材料を用いて製造した。この凝集体は、3重量%の結合材Aを用いて作った。焼成温度は1250℃に設定し、筒の設置角度は2.5°にし、回転速度は5rpmにした。砥粒は、サン-ゴバン・セラミックス&プラスチックス社、ウースター、マサチューセッツ州、アメリカ合衆国から入手した溶融アルミナ38A砥粒という80グリットのサイズのものであった。
凝集体を用いて実験用砥石車を作った(タイプ1)(最終サイズは24×8×12インチ(61.0×20.3×8.08cm))。
この実験用砥石車は、回転しているパドル・ミキサーに凝集体を添加し、その凝集体に液体フェノール樹脂(ハネウエル・インターナショナル社、摩擦部門、トロイ、ニューヨークからのV-1181樹脂)を混合することによって作った(樹脂が24重量%の混合物)。この湿った凝集体を粉末化したフェノール樹脂に添加した(デュレズ社、ダラス。テキサス州から入手したDurez Varcum(登録商標)樹脂29-717)(76重量%の樹脂混合物)。砥石車を作るのに用いた砥粒凝集体および樹脂結合材の重量%と、最終的な砥石車の組成(硬化させた砥石車に含まれる砥粒、結合材、気孔の体積%)を、以下の表1-2に示してある。
c.結合材の“全”体積%は、砥粒を凝集させるのに用いるガラス化した結合材料の量と、砥石車を作るのに用いる有機樹脂結合材の量の和である。結合材の“(有機)”体積%は、結合材の全体積%のうちで、砥石車を作るために凝集体に添加する有機樹脂の割合である。
センターレス研削試験で実験用砥石車をテストし、フェノール樹脂を用いて結合させた比較用の基準砥石車(C-1)と比較した。この比較用砥石車はサン-ゴバン・アブレイシヴズ社、ウースター、マサチューセッツ州が製造している1つのクラスの砥石車を代表するものであり、工業用センターレス研削操作で用いられる最適の製品である。この比較用砥石車を選択したのは、工業用センターレス研削操作で用いられている砥石車と同等の組成、構造、物理的特性を有するからである。

切れ込みの深さ:直径上で0.0025インチ(0.064mm)、または0.04インチ(0.102mm)または0.006インチ(0.152mm)
砥石車の目直し:マルチ-ポイント・ダイヤモンド、横断速度は12インチ/分、径方向成分は0.0005インチ
調整車の目直し:シングル・ポイント・ダイヤモンド、横断速度は6インチ/分、径方向成分は0.0005インチ
Claims (5)
- 三次元複合体を含む結合研削工具の製造方法において、下記の工程:
a)有機結合材料を砥粒と混合して混合物を形成する工程であって、上記砥粒のうちの50〜100体積%の砥粒は無機結合材との焼結により多孔性焼結砥粒凝集体を形成しており、
b)上記混合物を成形する工程、
c)得られた混合物成形体を熱硬化させて結合研削工具とする工程であって、該熱硬化中に、前記有機結合材料が前記多孔性焼結砥粒凝集体の気孔の内部に侵入し、
前記結合研削工具は、
(i)20〜48体積%の前記砥粒と、20〜48体積%の前記有機結合材料と、10体積%未満の気孔とを含む第1の相と、
(ii)16〜34体積%の気孔から成る第2の相と、を含み、
且つ、前記砥粒の合計の体積%、前記有機結合材料の体積%、前記第1の相における前記気孔の体積%、および前記第2の相の前記気孔の体積%の合計は100体積%である、
ことを特徴とする結合研削工具の製造方法。 - 請求項1において、上記工程a)で用いられる前記多孔性焼結砥粒凝集体に存在する気孔の75体積%は相互に接合した気孔であることを特徴とする結合研削工具の製造方法。
- 請求項2または3において、上記結合研削工具は、硬さのグレードが、ノートン社の硬さスケールでJとSの間であり、最小破壊速度が6000sfpm(30.48m/秒)であることを特徴とする結合研削工具の製造方法。
- 請求項1〜3までのいずれか1項記載の製造方法によって製造された結合研削工具。
- 請求項4記載の結合研削工具を用いてセンターレス研削する方法。
