Description
また、発光面を16以上の領域に分割しているので、1つの領域がリークし消灯したとしても、目立ちにくくすることができる。
また、前記第一の電極及び前記第二の電極を格子状に交差するように設けることにより、前記発光面を複数の領域に分割しているので、単純マトリックス駆動を行うことができ、一つの電源で済むため、ある領域に電流のリークする欠陥が生じても、全面消灯することなく、発光パネルとしての機能を維持しつつ、低コストで製造することができる。
また、複数の領域に分割されている前記発光面の互いに隣接しない複数の領域を同時に発光させるように、格子状に交差するように設けた前記第一の電極及び前記第二の電極に電圧を印加するので、電極の分割数に比べ、時間の分割数を少なくすることができる。このため、ある領域がリークし消灯したとしても、明るさのアンバランスを生じることがなく、また、時間分割数が少なくなるので各領域の有機EL素子の発光輝度を大幅に上げる必要がないので、発光パネルの寿命を伸ばすことができる。

(実施例1)
陽極として75mm×75mmのガラス上にITOを150nm成膜した基板(NHテクノグラス社製:NA−45)に一般的なフォトリソグラフィー法によって電極形状のパターニングを行った。図4に示す陽極形状のフォトマスクを用い、電極幅18mm、電極と電極とのスペース2mmの陽極21,22を形成した。その後、このITO透明電極(陽極)を設けた透明支持基板をiso−プロピルアルコールで超音波洗浄し、乾燥窒素ガスで乾燥し、UVオゾン洗浄を5分間行った。
(実施例2)
実施例1において、陽極作製のフォトマスクを図8のような陽極形状とし、電極の幅を9mm、電極間のスペースを1mmとした陽極21〜24を作製し、陰極作製のシャドウマスクを図8のような陰極形状とし、電極の幅を9mm、電極間のスペースを1mmとした陰極41〜44を作製した他は、同様な作製方法を用い、発光面S1〜S16を持つ有機EL素子を用いた発光パネルを作製した。この発光パネルを10個作製したところ、S3の領域にリークのする欠陥があるものが1個作製され、その他は、リークする欠陥は無かった。
(比較例1)
実施例1において、陽極作製のフォトマスクを図2(A)に示す全面ベタのものを用い、陰極のシャドウマスクにも図2(A)に示す全面ベタのものを用い、それぞれの電極幅を36mmとした他は、同様な作製方法を用い、発光面Sを持つ有機EL素子を用いた発光パネルを作製した。この発光パネルを10個作製したところ、リークのする欠陥があるものが1個作製され、その他は、リークする欠陥は無かった。
Claims (2)
- 基板に第一の電極、発光層を含む少なくとも一層以上の有機層、第二の電極が積層されてなる発光パネルの前記第一の電極と前記第二の電極との間に電圧を印加することにより前記発光パネルの発光面を発光させてなる発光パネルの駆動方法において、
前記第一の電極及び前記第二の電極を格子状に交差するように設けることによって前記発光面を16以上の領域に分割し、時間分割数を4として前記16以上の領域を時間分割で発光させ、
前記16以上の領域のうち互いに隣接しない複数の領域を時間分割された各期間中に同時に発光させるように、前記第一の電極及び前記第二の電極に電圧を印加することを特徴とする照明装置用発光パネルの駆動方法。 - 前記互いに隣接しない複数の領域が、一つおきの領域であることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の照明装置用発光パネルの駆動方法。
