Claims (28)
- マトリクス状に配置された複数の画素を有する液晶表示装置であって、
前記複数の画素のそれぞれに対応して形成された画素電極及びTFT、ならびに前記TFTのドレイン電極と前記画素電極とを電気的に接続するためのコンタクトホールが形成された絶縁層を含むTFT基板と、
前記画素電極に対向する対向電極を含む対向基板と、
前記TFT基板と前記対向基板との間に配置された、負の誘電率異方性を有する液晶を含む液晶層と、を備え、
前記画素電極は、周辺部と、前記コンタクトホールの内で前記ドレイン電極に電気的に接触する部分を含む島状部と、前記周辺部から延びる複数の枝部とを含み、
前記複数の枝部は、第1方向に延びる複数の第1枝部、第2方向に延びる複数の第2枝部、第3方向に延びる複数の第3枝部、及び第4方向に延びる複数の第4枝部からなり、
前記第1方向、前記第2方向、前記第3方向、及び前記第4方向は互いに異なる方向であり、
前記第1枝部、前記第2枝部、前記第3枝部、及び前記第4枝部によって、電圧印加時に液晶が、前記第1枝部に沿って配向する第1領域、前記第2枝部に沿って配向する第2領域、前記第3枝部に沿って配向する第3領域、及び第4枝部に沿って配向する第4領域が形成され、
前記TFT基板の面に垂直に見た場合、1画素内において、または互いに隣接する2つの画素を跨いで、前記島状部が前記第1領域、前記第2領域、前記第3領域、及び前記第4領域に囲まれており、
前記島状部が、前記複数の枝部を介することなく、前記複数の枝部以外の接続部によって前記周辺部に電気的に接続されているか、あるいは前記第1枝部の1つ、前記第2枝部の1つ、前記第3枝部の1つ、または前記第4枝部の1つを介して前記周辺部に電気的に接続されているか、あるいは前記周辺部に直接接続されている、液晶表示装置。 - 前記複数の枝部の全ての枝部の前記周辺部とは反対側の端部と前記島状部とが分離されており、前記周辺部と前記島状部とが1つの接続部のみによって電気的に接続されている、請求項1に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記複数の枝部の全ての枝部の前記周辺部とは反対側の端部と前記島状部とが分離されており、前記周辺部と前記島状部とが2つの接続部のみによって電気的に接続されている、請求項1に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記TFT基板の面に垂直に見た場合、前記2つの接続部が、前記島状部の中心または画素の中心を基準として、互いに対称となるように配置されている、請求項3に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記島状部が、前記第1枝部の1つのみ、前記第2枝部の1つのみ、前記第3枝部の1つのみ、及び前記第4枝部の1つのみと電気的に接続されている、請求項1に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記TFT基板の面に垂直に見た場合、前記第1枝部の1つ及び前記第2枝部の1つと、前記第3枝部の1つ及び前記第4枝部の1つとが、前記島状部の中心または画素を2等分する線を基準として、互いに対称となるように配置されている、請求項5に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記TFT基板の面に垂直に見た場合、前記島状部が、前記島状部の中心または画素の中心を基準として対称な形状を有する、請求項1から6のいずれかに記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記島状部が、前記第1枝部、前記第2枝部、前記第3枝部、または前記第4枝部の1つの枝部のみと電気的に接続されている、請求項1に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記TFT基板の面に垂直に見た場合、前記島状部の外周端が、第1の画素の前記4つの領域のうちの2つ、及び前記第1の画素に隣接する第2の画素の前記4つの領域のうちの2つによって囲まれている、請求項1に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記複数の枝部の全ての枝部の前記周辺部とは反対側の端部と前記島状部とが分離されており、前記周辺部と前記島状部とが前記複数の枝部を介することなく電気的に接続されている、請求項9に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記TFT基板の面に垂直に見た場合、前記島状部の外周端が、前記第1領域と対面する第1端部、前記第2領域と対面する第2端部、前記第3領域と対面する第3端部、及び前記第4領域と対面する第4端部を有し、
前記第1端部が前記第1枝部に沿って延びる端部を含み、前記第2端部が前記第2枝部に沿って延びる端部を含み、前記第3端部が前記第3枝部に沿って延びる端部を含み、前記第4端部が前記第4枝部に沿って延びる端部を含む、請求項1から10のいずれかに記載の液晶表示装置。 - 前記第1端部が前記第1方向に沿って延び、前記第2端部が前記第2方向に沿って延び、前記第3端部が前記第3方向に沿って延び、前記第4端部が前記第4方向に沿って延びている、請求項11に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記第1端部と前記第3端部とが互いに平行に延び、前記第2端部と前記第4端部とが互いに平行且つ前記第1端部とは90°異なる方向に延びている、請求項12に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記液晶層を挟むように配置された第1偏光板及び第2偏光板を備え、
前記第1偏光板の吸収軸と第2偏光板の吸収軸とが直交しており、
前記第1方向、前記第2方向、前記第3方向、及び前記第4方向のそれぞれが、前記第1偏光板または前記第2偏光板の吸収軸と45°異なっている、請求項1から12のいずれかに記載の液晶表示装置。 - 前記TFT基板と前記対向基板との間に配置されたスペーサを備え、
前記TFT基板の面に垂直に見た場合、前記スペーサが前記画素電極と重ならないように配置されている、請求項1から14のいずれかに記載の液晶表示装置。 - 前記TFT基板の面に垂直に見た場合、前記複数の画素のそれぞれの形状が長方形であり、前記スペーサが前記複数の画素のそれぞれの4つの角部の少なくとも1つの位置に配置されている、請求項15に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記TFT基板の面に垂直に見た場合、前記スペーサの近傍において、前記画素電極の前記周辺部の一部が前記複数の枝部の延びる方向に垂直に延びている、請求項16に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記TFT基板の面に垂直に見た場合、前記複数の画素のそれぞれの形状が長方形であり、前記スペーサが前記複数の画素のそれぞれの4つの辺の少なくとも1つの中央部に配置されている、請求項15に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記TFT基板の面に垂直に見た場合、前記スペーサの近傍において、前記画素電極の前記周辺部の一部が前記複数の枝部の延びる方向に沿って延びている、請求項18に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記TFT基板と前記対向基板との間に配置されたスペーサを備え、
前記TFT基板の面に垂直に見た場合、前記スペーサが前記画素電極と重なるように配置されている、請求項1から14のいずれかに記載の液晶表示装置。 - 前記TFT基板の面に垂直に見た場合、前記複数の画素のそれぞれの形状が長方形であり、前記スペーサが前記複数の画素のそれぞれの4つの角部の少なくとも1つの位置に配置されている、請求項20に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記TFT基板の面に垂直に見た場合、前記複数の画素のそれぞれの形状が長方形であり、前記スペーサが前記複数の画素のそれぞれの4つの辺の少なくとも1つの中央部に配置されている、請求項20に記載の液晶表示装置。
- マトリクス状に配置された複数の画素を有する液晶表示装置であって、
前記複数の画素のそれぞれに対応して形成された画素電極及びTFT、ならびに前記TFTのドレイン電極と前記画素電極とを電気的に接続するためのコンタクトホールが形成された絶縁層を含むTFT基板と、
前記画素電極に対向する対向電極を含む対向基板と、
前記TFT基板と前記対向基板との間に配置された、負の誘電率異方性を有する液晶を含む液晶層と、を備え、
前記画素電極は、周辺部と、前記コンタクトホールの内で前記ドレイン電極と電気的に接触する部分を含む島状部と、前記島状部から延びる複数の幹部と、前記複数の幹部または前記島状部から延びる複数の枝部とを含み、
前記複数の枝部は、第1方向に延びる複数の第1枝部、第2方向に延びる複数の第2枝部、第3方向に延びる複数の第3枝部、及び第4方向に延びる複数の第4枝部からなり、
前記第1方向、前記第2方向、前記第3方向、及び前記第4方向は互いに異なる方向であり、
前記第1枝部、前記第2枝部、前記第3枝部、及び前記第4枝部によって、電圧印加時に液晶が、前記第1枝部に沿って配向する第1領域、前記第2枝部に沿って配向する第2領域、前記第3枝部に沿って配向する第3領域、及び第4枝部に沿って配向する第4領域が形成され、
前記TFT基板の面に垂直に見た場合、前記島状部が前記第1領域、前記第2領域、前記第3領域、及び前記第4領域に囲まれており、
前記複数の枝部の全ての枝部の端部と前記周辺部との間に絶縁部が存在し、前記島状部が、前記複数の枝部以外の接続部によって前記周辺部に電気的に接続されている、液晶表示装置。 - 前記複数の枝部の全ての枝部の前記幹部または前記島状部とは反対側の端部と前記周辺部とが分離されており、前記周辺部と前記島状部とが1つの接続部のみによって電気的に接続されている、請求項23に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記液晶層を挟むように配置された第1偏光板及び第2偏光板を備え、
前記第1偏光板の吸収軸と第2偏光板の吸収軸とが直交しており、
前記第1方向、前記第2方向、前記第3方向、及び前記第4方向のそれぞれが、前記第1偏光板または前記第2偏光板の吸収軸と45°異なっている、請求項23または24に記載の液晶表示装置。 - 前記TFT基板と前記対向基板との間に配置されたスペーサを備え、
前記TFT基板の面に垂直に見た場合、前記スペーサが前記画素電極と重ならないように配置されている、請求項23から25のいずれかに記載の液晶表示装置。 - 前記TFT基板の面に垂直に見た場合、前記複数の画素のそれぞれの形状が長方形であり、前記スペーサが前記複数の画素それぞれの4つの辺の少なくとも1つの中央部に配置されている、請求項26に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記TFT基板の面に垂直に見た場合、前記スペーサの近傍において、前記画素電極の前記周辺部の一部が前記複数の枝部の延びる方向に沿って延びている、請求項27に記載の液晶表示装置。
