Abstract
【解決手段】重合性成分を含有し、室温(25℃)で1×1013Ω・cm以上の比抵抗を有する液晶をTFT基板2上に滴下し、TFT基板2と対向基板4とを真空中で貼り合わせてから大気圧に戻すことにより液晶をTFT基板2及び対向基板4の間に充填して液晶層6を形成し、液晶層6に所定の電圧を印加しながら重合性成分を重合させてポリマー層52、53を形成する。

Description
以下、本実施の形態による液晶表示装置及びその製造方法について、実施例を用いてより具体的に説明する。
まず、本実施の形態の実施例1について説明する。UV光により重合可能なモノマーを含有し、比抵抗が互いに異なる3種類のn型液晶を用意した。3種類の液晶の室温(25℃)での比抵抗は、それぞれ7.0×1012Ω・cm、1.0×1013Ω・cm、3.3×1013Ω・cmとした。また、吸水性の異なる5種類の垂直配向膜用材料(ポリイミド又はポリアミック酸)PI1〜PI5を用意した。ここで、配向膜用材料の吸水性は、当該材料を用いて形成された配向膜の吸水前後での電圧保持率の変化率(電圧保持率変化率)により評価した。配向膜用材料PI1〜PI5の電圧保持率変化率を順に5.0%、2.1%、1.2%、0.8%、0.1%とした。
次に、本実施の形態の実施例2について説明する。MVA方式のように液晶分子を基板に垂直に配向させる垂直配向型の液晶表示装置では、液晶の複屈折性を主に利用して光のスイッチングが行われる。一般に垂直配向型の液晶表示装置では、表示画面の法線方向に進む光とそれより斜めの方向に進む光との間で複屈折により生じる位相差が異なるため、程度の差はあるが画面の斜め方向では全階調において階調輝度特性(γ特性)が設定値からずれてしまう。したがって、液晶への印加電圧に対する透過率特性(T−V特性)は表示画面の法線方向と斜め方向とで異なるため、画面法線方向のT−V特性を最適に調整しても、斜め方向から見るとT−V特性が歪んで画面の色が白っぽく変化してしまうという問題がある。
Vpx2=(Cc/(Clc2+Cc))×Vpx1
となる。ここで、0<(Cc/(Clc2+Cc))<1であるため、Vpx1=Vpx2=0以外では電圧Vpx2は電圧Vpx1より大きさが小さくなる(|Vpx2|<|Vpx1|)。
例えば、上記実施の形態では、透過型の液晶表示装置を例に挙げたが、本発明はこれに限らず、反射型や半透過型等の他の液晶表示装置にも適用できる。

前記第1の基板と第2の基板とを真空中で貼り合わせてから大気圧に戻すことにより前記液晶を前記第1及び第2の基板間に充填し、

を特徴とする液晶表示装置の製造方法。

前記液晶に混入された重合性成分が重合して前記基板との界面近傍に形成され、前記液晶の配向方位を規制するポリマー層と
を有することを特徴とする液晶表示装置。

付記2記載の液晶表示装置において、
一方の前記基板上に形成された第1の画素電極と、前記一方の基板上に形成され、前記第1の画素電極から分離された第2の画素電極とをそれぞれ備えた複数の画素領域と、
前記画素領域毎に配置され、前記第1の画素電極に電気的に接続されたソース電極を備えたトランジスタと、
前記ソース電極に電気的に接続され、絶縁膜を介して前記第2の画素電極の少なくとも一部に対向して配置された制御容量電極を備え、前記ソース電極と前記第2の画素電極とを容量結合する制御容量部とをさらに有すること
を特徴とする液晶表示装置。

- 重合性成分を含有し、室温(25℃)で1×1013Ω・cm以上の比抵抗を有する液晶を第1の基板上に滴下し、
前記第1の基板と第2の基板とを真空中で貼り合わせてから大気圧に戻すことにより前記液晶を前記第1及び第2の基板間に充填し、
前記液晶に所定の電圧を印加しながら前記重合性成分を重合させること
を特徴とする液晶表示装置の製造方法。 - 対向配置された一対の基板と、
前記一対の基板間に封止され、室温(25℃)で1×1013Ω・cm以上の比抵抗を有する液晶と、
前記一対の基板間の外周部に切れ目なく形成されたシール材と、
