Description
この試験を用いて、公害防止装置が受ける温度でシート材料の収縮を求めた。試料を、4.44cm×4.44cmの寸法の正方形ダイを用いてシートからカットした。ダイアルキャリパゲージを用いて試料をX−Y面で測定して、面積(A加熱前)を求め、次に900℃まで予熱させておいたサーマリン(Thermalyne)タイプ48000炉に入れた。試験結果に示されるように、試料を24時間、48時間または72時間加熱した。炉から取り出した後、試料を室温まで冷やし、キャリパゲージで測定して加熱後の面積(A加熱後)を求めた。パーセント収縮(%収縮)を次のようにして求めた。
%収縮=[(A加熱前−A加熱後)/A加熱前]×100
この試験を用いて、通常の使用中の触媒コンバータのような公害防止エレメントでみられる実際の条件を代表する条件下でのシート材料により出される圧力を測定した。詳細については米国特許第5,869,010号に記載されている。
40℃の1500mlの水道水および膨張バーミキュライト(マサチューセッツ州ケンブリッジのW.R.グレース(W.R.Grace,Cambridge,MA)より入手したゾネライト(ZONELITE)膨張バーミキュライト5番)をワリング(Waring)ブレンダに加えることによりシート材料を作成した。ブレンダを低い設定で3分間操作して、バーミキュライトを剥離および粉砕した。次に、フランホーファ(Fraunhofer)認定生体溶解性無機ファイバー(ジョージア州オーガスタのサーマルセラミックス(Thermal Ceramics, Augusta GA)より入手可能なスーパーウール607)を加え、低速で3秒間ブレンドした。膨張バーミキュライトおよび生体溶解性無機ファイバーの量は合計で25グラムである。詳細は表1に示す。
実施例1に記載した手順および表2に示した組成を用いて膨張性マット組成物を調製した。生体溶解性無機ファイバーをラテックスに加える前に約5秒間ブレンドし、50パーセント固体の硫酸アルミニウム溶液10部を加えてラテックスを凝固した。未膨張バーミキュライトはバーミキュライト鉱石であり、ニューヨーク州ニューヨークのコメタル社(Cometals, Inc. New York,NY)より入手したものであり、メッシュサイズは18メッシュ未満(約1mm未満のサイズ)であった。未膨張バーミキュライトは、ラテックスを凝固した後加えて混合し、かなり均一な分散液を形成した。
膨張バーミキュライトが、アーカンサス州パインブラフのザ・ストロング社(The Strong Co., Inc., Pine Bluff,AR)より入手したミクロン等級の膨張バーミキュライト(Micron Grade Expanded Vermiculite)であり、1グラムの0.635長レーヨンファイバー(テネシー州ジョンソンシティのミニファイバー社(Minifibers Inc Johnson City,TN))を溶解性ファイバーと共にスラリーに加えた以外は実施例4と同じようにして、シート材料を作成した。結果のグラフを図4に示す。実装密度は0.95g/ccであった。試料をピーク温度で2時間保持した。第1のサイクルをプロット4で、第2のサイクルをプロット5で、第3のサイクルをプロット6で示す。RCFTで試験したとき、膨張性マットは許容される収縮および100kPaを超える圧力を有していた。
多層構造を、水分含有層と、米国特許第5,290,522(ロジャースら(Rogers,et al.))に記載されたようにして作成した1平方メートル当たり約700グラムの乾燥したニードルパンチシートと、1平方メートル当たり約2770グラムの実施例5の膨張性シート層とから形成した。2層を併せて置き、実施例5の層を加熱側のプラテンの隣に置き、そして乾燥したシートを冷却側のプラテンの隣に置いて、構造をRCFT(実条件備品試験)で試験した。1立方センチメートル当たり実装密度約0.7グラムだが、加熱プラテンで500℃、冷却プラテンで200℃に達するだけの最大プラテン温度により、実施例5に記載した3つの温度サイクルについて試験したところ、最低圧力約75キロパスカルおよび最大圧力約220キロパスカルが観察された。これらの結果によれば、本発明の多層構造を、様々な用途において装着システムとして用いる多様性が示されている。
雲母バインダーとして未膨張バーミキュライトを含有する試料を作成した。45重量パーセントの未膨張バーミキュライト、45重量パーセントのスーパーウール(SUPERWOOL)607および15重量パーセントのエアフレックス(AIRFLEX)600Bラテックスを用いてシート材料を作成した。
Claims (10)
- a)乾燥重量ベースで5〜80重量パーセントの量の、粒径が150マイクロメートル未満である非膨張性の破砕された状態の雲母鉱物粒子である雲母バインダーと、
b)乾燥重量ベースで10〜60重量パーセントの量の生体溶解性無機ファイバーと
を含む組成物であり、前記雲母バインダーが、乾燥したシートを少なくとも5分間にわたって25℃および50パーセントまでの相対湿度でいずれかの端部で、破砕したり落ちて離れたりすることなく水平に保持できる、他の材料を含有しない5cm×5cm×3mmのシートへ形成可能な雲母バインダーである、組成物。 - 前記雲母バインダーが、膨張バーミキュライトを含む請求項1記載の組成物。
- 乾燥重量ベースで15重量パーセントまでの量の、少なくとも3マイクロメートルの平均径を有する吸入不可能な無機ファイバーをさらに含む請求項1記載の組成物。
- 未膨張バーミキュライトを含む膨張性材料をさらに含む、請求項1記載の組成物。
- 請求項1に記載の組成物であって、さらに
c)乾燥重量ベースで30〜60重量パーセントの量の膨張性材料であって、粒子サイズが150マイクロメートルを超える未膨張バーミキュライトを含む前記膨張性材料
を含む組成物。 - 請求項1〜5のいずれか一項に記載の組成物を含む、公害防止装置における使用に適した、装着マット。
- 請求項1〜5のいずれか一項に記載の組成物を含む、耐熱材。
- 請求項1〜5のいずれか一項に記載の組成物を含む、公害防止装置における使用に適した、シート材料。
- 前記シート材料が900℃に加熱されたときに、6パーセント未満減少するX−Y面における面積を有する、請求項8に記載のシート材料。
- a)筐体と、
b)前記筐体中に配置された公害防止エレメントと、
c)少なくとも前記筐体と前記公害防止エレメントの間に配置された保護梱包材料、公害防止装置の一領域を絶縁するように配置された絶縁材料、または前記保護梱包材料および前記絶縁材料の両方のいずれか
を含む、公害防止装置であって、
前記保護梱包材料と前記絶縁材料が、それぞれ請求項1〜5いずれか一項に記載の組成物を含む、
公害防止装置。
