ここで、Pは膨張圧力、Rは膨張の間における任意の時点でのポリマーチューブの平均半径、δはチューブの壁厚である。バルーンをチューブから出発させるために、膨張圧力は、そのブロー成形温度においける伸張のための壁のフープ応力が材料抵抗(典型的に降伏応力)を上回るようなものでなければならない。バルーンは、チューブから出発すると、金型の壁に接触するまでその寸法が急速に拡径する。バルーンが成長するにつれて、半径は増大しバルーンの壁厚は減少する。このことは、定圧でのブロー成形の間における壁のフープ応力の急速な増加をもたらす。成長しつつあるバルーンの壁のフープ応力が材料の極限フープ強度を越えると、破裂が発生する。その結果、バルーンの層を形成するポリマー材料のBUR(すなわち最大達成BR)には限界がある。

Claims (42)
- 近位端、遠位端および膨張用管腔を有した細長いカテーテルシャフトと、
前記シャフトの遠位側部分上にある多層バルーンと、を備え、
前記多層バルーンは、所定の総壁厚を有する少なくとも第1層および第2層を備え、
前記第1層は、第1最大ブローアップ比を有する第1ポリマー材料からなり、
前記第2層は、前記第1最大ブローアップ比よりも大きい第2最大ブローアップ比を有する第2ポリマー材料からなり、かつ、前記第1層に対して内側層であり、
前記少なくとも第1層および第2層は、前記総壁厚に等しい壁厚を有する第1ポリマー材料からなる単層バルーンよりも小さい伸長度を有している、バルーンカテーテル。 - 前記第2最大ブローアップ比が、前記第1最大ブローアップ比よりも15%〜40%大きい、請求項1に記載のバルーンカテーテル。
- 前記第1最大ブローアップ比が6〜7である、請求項1記載のバルーンカテーテル。
- 前記第2最大ブローアップ比が7〜8である、請求項1記載のバルーンカテーテル。
- 前記第1最大ブローアップ比が6〜7であり、前記第2最大ブローアップ比が7〜8である、請求項1記載のバルーンカテーテル。
- 前記多層バルーンは、前記多層バルーンを形成するために用いられた型の内側直径に対応する基準作業直径を有しており、前記多層バルーンがほぼ前記基準作業直径にあるときに、前記第2層はほぼ前記第2最大ブローアップ比にある、請求項1記載のバルーンカテーテル。
- 前記バルーンがほぼ前記基準作業直径にあるときに、前記第1層はほぼ前記第1最大ブローアップ比にある、請求項6記載のバルーンカテーテル。
- 前記第2層は前記総壁厚の5%〜15%の厚さを有している、請求項1記載のバルーンカテーテル。
