Description
本願は、米国仮特許出願第60/549792号(2004年3月2日出願、名称「液晶表示装置用補償板」(その開示内容のすべては、この引用により本明細書に記載されたものとする))の利益及び優先権を主張するものである。
(i)基材上(または装置もしくは多層構造の層上)に上述したコロイド系を塗布する段階(該コロイド系は、チキソトロピー性を有する必要があり、それは、予め設定した温度および分散相の所定の濃度を維持することによりもたらされる)、
(ii)該溶液の粘度を低下させる任意の外部作用(加熱、剪断歪作用など)により、塗布されたコロイド系を高流動性の(粘度が減少した)状態に変換する段階(この作用は、後の配向段階全体の間あるいは配向段階の最後に、必要最小限の時間付与することができる。この作用の付与により、配向段階の間、コロイド系が粘度の増加した状態に戻らないようにする)、
(iii)該系への外部からの配向作用の段階(該作用は、機械的因子を用いるか、またはそれ以外の手段により、発生させることができる。該外部作用の程度は、該コロイド系の動力学的単位が必要な配向を獲得しかつ異方性結晶薄膜の結晶格子の基礎として働く構造を形成するように、十分なものでなければならない)、
(iv)該層の配向している領域を、該外部作用により粘度が低下した状態から、初期と同等、あるいはそれより高粘度の状態に変換する段階(この変換は、該異方性結晶薄膜の構造の劣化が起こらず、かつ、表面欠陥が生じないように行われる)、
(v)溶媒除去(乾燥)の最終段階(この過程において、異方性結晶薄膜の構造が形成される。この段階は、時間、性質、及び温度によって特徴づけられる、さらなる熱処理(アニーリング)をさらに含むことができ、この段階の時間、性質、及び温度は、超分子の構造及び共役芳香族結晶性層の結晶構造を損なわずに維持しながら、結晶水和物の構造から水分子をすべて又は少なくとも部分的に除去することを確実にするよう、選択される)。
そして、X、Yはそれぞれ独立してCH3、C2H5、OCH3、OC2H5、Cl、Br、OH、及びNH2からなる群より選ばれ、Mは対イオンであり、かつjは該分子中の対イオンの数である。
本発明に従いAプレート補償板を作製し、そして解析してその光学特性を調べた。
本発明に従いAプレート補償板を作製し、そのフィルムを解析して光学特性を調べた。アセナフト[1,2−b]キノキサリンのスルホ誘導体の混合物12gを温度20℃で撹拌しながら65.0gの脱イオン水に導入した。次いで25%のアンモニア水溶液5.3mLを添加し、その混合物を完全に溶解するまで撹拌した。その溶液をロータリーエバポレーターで30%に濃縮し、そしてポリマー基板(SONYフィルム製「Zeonor」)に、マイヤーロッド#2.5を用いて15mms−1の線速度、20℃の温度、及び65%の湿度で塗布した。このフィルムを同じ湿度及び温度で乾燥させた。基板上のこのフィルムはネガティブAプレート補償板である。
Cプレート補償板を多層構造物として本発明に従って作製した。この補償板は以下のようにして得た。最初に異方性層TCFを上述したようにポリマー基板上に形成した。次いで、100nmの厚みのSiO2の分離層を堆積させ、そして同じ異方性層をもう一つ、第一と第二の異方性層の光軸の方向が垂直になるよう、塗布した。任意の適当な透明材料(例えば、ラッカー、ポリマーなど)を分離層として用いることができる。
図9及び図10は、いくつかの補償板を備える液晶表示装置の光学構造についての構成図を示している。
Claims (7)
- 複屈折材料からなる少なくとも一つの層を備える液晶表示装置用補償板であって、
前記複屈折材料は、少なくとも一種の以下の一般構造式のアセナフト[1,2−b]キノキサリンスルホ誘導体により形成される結晶構造を有するものであり、かつ、少なくとも一つの光軸方向に3.4±0.3Åの分子間間隔を有する、液晶表示装置用補償板。
mは0〜4の範囲内の整数であり、
zは0〜6の範囲内の整数であり、かつm+z+nは10以下であり、
X及びYはそれぞれ独立してCH3、C2H5、OCH3、OC2H5、Cl、Br、OH、及びNH2からなる群より選ばれ、
Mは対イオンであり、かつ
jは該分子中の対イオンの数である。) - 前記アセナフト[1,2−b]キノキサリンスルホ誘導体の該構造式が、以下の構造I〜VIIIからなる群より選ばれるものである、請求項1に記載の補償板。
そして、X、Yはそれぞれ独立してCH3、C2H5、OCH3、OC2H5、Cl、Br、OH、及びNH2からなる群より選ばれ、Mは対イオンであり、かつjは該分子中の対イオンの数である。 - 前記光軸が前記複屈折材料の層の面内にあり、前記光軸の方向と一致する、請求項1または2に記載の補償板。
- 前記補償板がネガティブAプレートとして作用する、請求項1〜3のいずれか1項に記載の補償板。
- 前記複屈折材料からなる層を少なくとも二つ備え、複屈折材料からなる二つの隣接する層の光軸が互いに垂直である、請求項1〜4のいずれか1項に記載の補償板。
- 前記補償板がポジティブCプレートとして作用する、請求項5に記載の補償板。
- 前記補償板がネガティブCプレートとして作用する、請求項5に記載の補償板。
