Description
さらに、第2光源として所望する光束量は、低階調域を表現するに足らしめ、かつ第2集光部にて線状に集光することから、第1光源より小さくて済むことから、安価で消費電力量の低減を実現する画像表示装置を提案する。
また、第2,或いは3,4,5光源を間欠発光させることで、発熱量の低減、部品性能の長寿命化を実現する画像表示装置を提案する。
図3,4に示す特定のt0、t1時間における画像表示デバイス24への偏向状態を図5に示す。RGB光束の結像される境界では、黒、並びに線状のR/G/B光束が照射される。偏向動作は、後述する表示部の書込ラインに同期して偏向位置を移動するものである。
もちろん、分光偏向部22にて隣接光束間で光成分漏れを無くする様に構成することで、BK駆動領域を無くす構成としても何ら問題ない。
Claims (14)
- 画像信号に対応した光を表示デバイスから表示部に投射して画像表示を行うライトバルブ方式による画像表示装置であって、
光源からの光束を、異なる光束量の主光束と副光束に分割して集光させる集光手段と、
該集光手段により集光した主光束と副光束の各々を複数の色光に分光する分光手段と、
該分光手段により分光された主光束と副光束の各々の色光を上記表示デバイスの異なる領域に照射させると共に、照射方向を所定方向に順次移動させる偏向手段と、を有し、
前記画像信号の表示階調ビット数のうちの上位側の複数のビットに基づいて、前記主光束が照射される領域の前記表示デバイスを駆動し、前記表示階調ビット数から前記上位側の複数のビットを除いたビットに基づいて、前記副光束が照射される領域の前記表示デバイスを駆動するように構成するとともに、
前記画像信号の1フレームの表示期間を複数個のサブフレームに分割し、該サブフレームの期間毎に、前記各々の色光の上記表示デバイスへの照射が一巡するように構成したことを特徴とする画像表示装置。 - 前記光源は、主光束用の第1の光源と、副光束用の第2の光源により構成したことを特徴とする請求項1に記載の画像表示装置。
- 前記サブフレーム毎に前記第1及び第2の光源の発光量を制御するように構成したことを特徴とする請求項2に記載の画像表示装置。
- 前記主光束の各々の色光が照射される前記表示デバイス上の領域は、面積が各々異なることを特徴とする請求項1乃至請求項3の何れか一項に記載の画像表示装置。
- 前記第2の光源はLEDにより構成されることを特徴とする請求項2乃至請求項4の何れか一項に記載の画像表示装置。
- 画像信号に対応した光を表示デバイスから表示部に投射して画像表示を行うライトバルブ方式による画像表示装置であって、
所望の色成分を有する光束を出射する光源と、
該光源の発光量を制御駆動するランプ駆動手段と、
該光源から発する光束を主光束と副光束に分割し、異なる形状に集光する集光手段と、
該集光手段により集光した2個の光束の照射方向をそれぞれ所定方向に移動させると共に、複数の原色成分毎に分光し前記表示デバイスに領域を異ならしめて照射させる分光偏向手段と、
該分光偏向手段による前記表示デバイスへの偏向動作状態に基づいて、前記表示デバイスを駆動するための表示対象画像データを生成する画像処理手段とを備え、
nビットの入力画像情報を該画像処理手段によりk+sビット(k+s>n、k>s)精度で画像処理演算を行い、該k+sビットの前記画像処理手段の出力のうちの上位側のkビットを前記主光束に、下位側のsビットを前記副光束に分配して表示デバイスに供給し駆動するように構成するとともに、
前記画像信号の1フレームの表示期間を複数個のサブフレームに分割し、該サブフレームの期間毎に、前記各々の色光の上記表示デバイスへの照射が一巡するように構成したことを特徴とする画像表示装置。 - 前記表示デバイスは、少なくとも所望の色成分数の異なる領域に、それぞれ異なる画像データを同時に供給して駆動し、少なくとも所望の色成分数の異なる領域をそれぞれ同時に初期化する構成であることを特徴とする請求項6に記載の画像表示装置。
- 前記分光偏向手段は、それぞれの光束を表示デバイス上に照射するものであって、ライン走査方向に偏向するように構成したことを特徴とする請求項6乃至請求項7の何れか一項に記載の画像表示装置。
- 前記副光束の幅は少なくとも画素ライン単位幅を有することを特徴とする請求項6乃至請求項8の何れか一項に記載の画像表示装置。
- 前記表示デバイスは液晶素子で構成する画素であり、前記副光束側の全オン・全オフ画素駆動を成すように構成することを特徴とする請求項6乃至請求項9の何れか一項に記載の画像表示装置。
- 前記表示デバイスは、強誘電型液晶素子で構成する画素からなることを特徴とする請求項6乃至請求項9の何れか一項に記載の画像表示装置。
- 前記表示デバイスは、機械的に可動な反射板からなることを特徴とする請求項6乃至請求項9の何れか一項に記載の画像表示装置。
- 前記所定方向は、前記表示デバイスでのライン走査方向に対して垂直方向であることを特徴とする請求項6乃至請求項9の何れか一項に記載の画像表示装置。
- 前記所定方向は、前記表示デバイスでのライン走査方向に対して水平方向であることを特徴とする請求項6乃至請求項9の何れか一項に記載の画像表示装置。
