Claims (11)
- 2次元フォトニック結晶配列中に形成された線欠陥導波路に対する導波バンドである偶モードバンドと奇モードバンドの交差点を与える波数よりも大きな波数を有する導波光を導波可能な光制御素子において、
前記線欠陥導波路は、偶モードバンドと奇モードバンドの交差点を与える波数よりも大きな波数の領域において2つ以上の変曲点を有する偶モードバンドを有し、該2つ以上の変曲点のうちいずれか一つの変曲点近傍の周波数を有する導波光を導波し、
前記2次元フォトニック結晶配列は、円形形状のパターンで形成され、該円形形状の半径と円形形状の中心間隔との比が0.35以上0.50未満であり、かつ前記線欠陥導波路の欠陥部分の屈折率は、前記2次元フォトニック結晶配列が形成されている部分の屈折率とは異なるとともに、該屈折率の±20%の範囲内にある、
ことを特徴とする光制御素子。 - 前記フォトニック結晶配列は、線欠陥導波路近傍の形状がそれ以外の部分と異なる請求項1記載の光制御素子。
- 前記線欠陥導波路の光が伝搬する欠陥部分の間隔は、フォトニック結晶配列の列を除いたことで形成される間隔とは異なる請求項1又は2に記載の光制御素子。
- 前記線欠陥導波路の光が伝搬する欠陥部分の間隔は、フォトニック結晶配列の列を除いたことで形成される間隔に対して0.70以上1.00未満である請求項1乃至3のいずれかに記載の光制御素子。
- 前記線欠陥導波路は、光の伝搬方向に対して屈折率が連続的に変化する屈折率分布を有する請求項1乃至4のいずれかに記載の光制御素子。
- 前記線欠陥導波路は、フォトニック結晶配列の1列を除いて形成された請求項1乃至5のいずれかに記載の光制御素子。
- 前記フォトニック結晶配列は、2次元面内で低屈折率の円孔を三角格子状に配列した請求項1乃至6のいずれかに記載の光制御素子。
- 前記フォトニック結晶配列は、線欠陥導波路で屈折率差によって光を閉じ込めることができる誘電体薄膜に形成された請求項1乃至7のいずれかに記載の光制御素子。
- 前記誘電体薄膜が半導体材料である請求項8記載の光制御素子。
- 前記誘電体薄膜が電気光学材料である請求項8記載の光制御素子。
- 前記誘電体薄膜が非線形光学材料である請求項8記載の光制御素子。
