(1)正極活物質の製造
前駆体の含有量が下記の表1の実施例1と同様になるようにNiSO4*6H2O、CoSO4*7H2O、MnSO4*H2Oを計量した後、蒸溜水に溶解させる。溶解された金属水酸化物溶液は、反応器でアンモニア、苛性ソーダと共に反応して沈殿される。
沈殿されたスラリーは、圧力濾過器(filter press)を利用して水洗および固液分離を行い、高圧のフレッシュエアー(Fresh Air)を利用して残余水分を除去した。
固液分離された活物質は、流動層乾燥機を利用して150℃で乾燥した。乾燥された前駆体は、Li2CO3と混合した後、混合された前駆体4.0kgをムライト(mullite)材質の耐火匣(saggar)に充填した後、焼結炉で空気(air)雰囲気中で焼成温度800℃条件で昇温速度3.0℃/minで焼成する。その後、250℃乃至350℃条件で12時間維持して総30時間焼結する。
焼結された物質を粉砕分級して、正極活物質を得た。実施例1の正極活物質は、下記の表1のとおりである。
前記で製造された正極活物質と導電剤(Denk ablack)、バインダー(PVDF)の質量比が94:3:3になるようにN−メチル−2ピロリドン溶媒で均一に混合した。前記の混合物をアルミニウム箔に均一に塗布した後、ロールプレスで圧搾して150℃真空オーブンで12時間真空乾燥して正極を製造した。相対電極としてLi−metalを用い、電解液としてエチレンカーボネート(EC):エチルメチルカーボネート(EMC)=1:2である混合溶媒に1モルのLiPF6溶液を液体電解液として用いて通常の製造方法により半電池(half coin cell)を製造した。
前駆体の含有量が下記の表1の実施例2と同様になるようにNiSO4*6H2O、CoSO4*7H2O、MnSO4*H2Oを計量した後、蒸溜水に溶解させる点を除いては実施例1と同一の条件で進行して正極活物質を製造した。また、実施例1と同一の条件でリチウム二次電池を製造した。
前駆体の含有量が下記の表1の比較例1と同様になるようにNiSO4*6H2O、CoSO4*7H2O、MnSO4*H2Oを計量した後、蒸溜水に溶解させる点を除いては実施例1と同一の条件で進行して正極活物質を製造した。また、実施例1と同一の条件でリチウム二次電池を製造した。
前駆体の含有量が下記の表1の比較例2と同様になるようにNiSO4*6H2O、CoSO4*7H2O、MnSO4*H2Oを計量した後、蒸溜水に溶解させる点を除いては実施例1と同一の条件で進行して正極活物質を製造した。また、実施例1と同一の条件でリチウム二次電池を製造した。
評価例1(前駆体および活物質SEM)
それぞれの前駆体SEMを図1に、それぞれの活物質SEMを図2に示した。
図1および2によれば、それぞれの前駆体および活物質(焼成体)において外観上差はなく、D50粒径だけ一部差があることが分かる。
Precusor−0は比較例1を示し、Precusor−1は実施例1を示し、Precusor−2は実施例2を示し、Precusor−3は比較例2を示す。
熱処理温度による実施例および比較例の正極活物質表面に残留するLi2CO3量を下記表2に記録した。
ただし、ニッケル含有量が同一である時、マンガン含有量が増加するほどコバルト含有量は減少するため、下記の評価例3で調べてみる。
実施例および比較例の正極活物質が適用された電池を下記条件で駆動し、0.1C容量と初期効率を表3に記録した。
Charge:1.0C、CC/CV 4.25V、1/20C cut−off
Discharge:1.0C、CC、3.0V cut−off
一方、比較例1の場合、表面の残留リチウム量は相対的に低くて初期抵抗も低いが、コバルト含有量が低い分、電池の電気化学的特性は良くないことが分かる。
常温(25℃)で各活物質(焼成温度:840℃)を適用した電池を下記条件で駆動し、その結果のグラフを図4に示し、初期対比25サイクル駆動後の容量維持率を表4に記録した。
Charge:1.0C、CC/CV 4.3V、1/20C cut−off
Discharge:1.0C、CC、3.0V cut−off
常温より高温である45℃で、各活物質(焼成温度:840℃)を適用した電池を下記条件で駆動し、その結果のグラフを図5に示し、初期対比25サイクル駆動後の容量維持率を表5に記録した。

Discharge:1.0C、CC、3.0V cut−off

- 下記化学式1で表される化合物を含むリチウム二次電池用正極活物質。

Li1+mNi1−w−x−y−zCowMnxM1yM2zO2−pXp
(前記化学式1で、
M1およびM2は互いに異なり、それぞれ、Al、Mg、Zr、Sn、Ca、Ge、Ti、Cr、Fe、Zn、Y、Ba、La、Ce、Sm、Gd、Yb、Sr、CuおよびGaからなる群より選択されたいずれか一つの元素であり、
XはF、N、S、およびPからなる群より選択されたいずれか一つの元素であり、
w、x、y、z、pおよびmは、それぞれ、0.125<w<0.202、0.153<x<0.225、0≦y≦0.1、0≦z≦0.1、0.34≦w+x≦0.36、0≦p≦0.1、−0.1≦m≦0.2である。) - 前記正極活物質は、下記化学式2で表される化合物を含む、請求項1に記載のリチウム二次電池用正極活物質。

XはF、N、S、およびPからなる群より選択されたいずれか一つの元素であり、
w、xおよびmは、それぞれ、0.351≦w+x≦0.354、0≦p≦0.1、−0.1≦m≦0.2である。) - 1.01≦x/w≦1.36である、請求項2に記載のリチウム二次電池用正極活物質。
- 前記正極活物質の表面に残留するLi量は、5000ppm乃至12000ppmである、請求項1に記載のリチウム二次電池用正極活物質。
- 前記正極活物質の1次粒子の平均粒径は、0.1μm乃至1μmである、請求項1に記載のリチウム二次電池用正極活物質。
- 前記正極活物質は、2次粒子であり、
前記2次粒子のD50粒径は、7μm乃至15μmである、請求項1に記載のリチウム二次電池用正極活物質。 - ニッケル原料物質、コバルト原料物質、マンガン原料物質および異種元素原料物質を共沈反応させて前駆体を得る段階;および
前記前駆体およびリチウム原料物質を混合後に焼成して下記化学式1で表される正極活物質を得る段階;を含むリチウム二次電池用正極活物質の製造方法。

XはF、N、S、およびPからなる群より選択されたいずれか一つの元素であり、
w、x、y、z、pおよびmは、それぞれ、0.125<w<0.202、0.153<x<0.225、0≦y≦0.1、0≦z≦0.1、0.34≦w+x≦0.36、0≦p≦0.1、−0.1≦m≦0.2である。) - 前記正極活物質を得る段階では、
前記混合された前駆体およびリチウム原料物質を700℃乃至900℃で焼成した後に熱処理する、請求項7に記載のリチウム二次電池用正極活物質の製造方法。 - 前記正極活物質を得る段階で、
熱処理温度は、250℃乃至350℃である、請求項8に記載のリチウム二次電池用正極活物質の製造方法。 - 前記正極活物質を得る段階で、
熱処理温度は、280℃乃至320℃である、請求項8に記載のリチウム二次電池用正極活物質の製造方法。 - 正極;
負極;および
電解質;を含み、
前記正極は、請求項1乃至6のいずれか一項に記載のリチウム二次電池用正極活物質を含むリチウム二次電池。
