Abstract
【解決手段】タンデム素子における電荷発生層103mの陽極100側に接する層106mに2,9−ビス(ナフタレン−2−イル)−4,7−ジフェニル−1,10−フェナントロリン(略称:NBphen)が含まれる発光素子。

Description
図1に本発明の一態様である発光素子の概念図を示す。図1に示す発光素子は一対の電極(陽極100、陰極101)間に複数(n層)の発光ユニットを有している。最も陽極100側の発光ユニットを1番目の発光ユニット102k、最も陰極101側の発光ユニットをn番目の発光ユニット102nとした。
本実施の形態では、実施の形態1に記載の発光素子を用いた発光装置について説明する。
本実施の形態では、実施の形態1に記載の発光素子をその一部に含む電子機器の例について説明する。実施の形態1に記載の発光素子は発光効率が良好であり、消費電力が低減され、且つ、表示品質が良好なディスプレイを提供できる発光素子である。その結果、本実施の形態に記載の電子機器は、表示品質が良好で消費電力が低減された表示部を有する電子機器とすることが可能である。
ガラス基板である基板の上にアルミニウム−ニッケル−ランタン合金膜、チタン膜を順にスパッタリング法で成膜し、陽極100を形成した。なお、アルミニウム−ニッケル−ランタン合金膜の膜厚は200nmとし、チタン膜の膜厚は6nmとした。また、電極面積は2mm×2mmとした。
比較例素子1−R、1−G、1−Bでは、実施例素子1−R、1−G、1−Bにおける第1の正孔注入層111_1の膜厚を、比較例素子1−Rでは13.5nm、比較例素子1−Gでは16nm、比較例素子1−Bでは7.5nmとなるように成膜した。また、第1の電子輸送層114_1及び第2の電子輸送層114_2に用いられているNBphenを上記構造式(xii)で表されるバソフェナントロリン(略称:Bphen)に換えて作製した他は実施例素子1−R、1−G、1−Bと同様に作製した。
クロストークを評価するために、解像度が326ppiであるパッシブパネルを作製した。RGB画素をストライプ状に並べたパネルで、画素サイズは78μm角とした。サブピクセル(RGB各画素)は26×78μmとし、開口率は65.7%とした。
比較例素子2では、実施例素子2における第1の電子輸送層114_1に用いられているNBphenを上記構造式(xii)で表されるバソフェナントロリン(略称:Bphen)に換えて作製した他は実施例素子2と同様に作製した。

- 第1の電極と、
第2の電極と、
前記第1の電極と前記第2の電極との間に挟まれたEL層とを有し、
前記EL層は少なくとも複数の発光ユニットと、前記発光ユニット間に挟まれた複数の電荷発生層を有し、
前記電荷発生層の陽極側に接する層に2,9−ビス(ナフタレン−2−イル)−4,7−ジフェニル−1,10−フェナントロリンが含まれることを特徴とする発光素子。 - 第1の電極と、
第2の電極と、
前記第1の電極と、前記第2の電極との間に挟まれたEL層とを有し、
前記EL層は陽極側に形成された第1の発光ユニットと、陰極側に形成された第2の発光ユニットとを有し、
前記第1の発光ユニットと、前記第2の発光ユニットとの間に電荷発生層を有し、
前記第1の発光ユニットにおける前記電荷発生層と接する層に2,9−ビス(ナフタレン−2−イル)−4,7−ジフェニル−1,10−フェナントロリンが含まれることを特徴とする発光素子。 - 請求項1又は請求項2において、
前記電荷発生層には、少なくとも電荷発生領域と、電子注入バッファ領域が形成され、
前記電子注入バッファ領域は前記電荷発生層の陽極側に位置することを特徴とする発光素子。 - 請求項3において、前記電子注入バッファ領域の前記電荷発生領域側に電子リレー領域を有する発光素子。
- 請求項3又は請求項4において、前記電子注入バッファ領域にはアルカリ金属が含まれる発光素子。
- 請求項5において、前記アルカリ金属がリチウムである発光素子。
- 請求項1乃至請求項6のいずれか一項において、
前記EL層は、少なくとも縮合芳香族化合物又は縮合複素芳香族化合物を含む層と、前記縮合芳香族化合物又は縮合複素芳香族化合物を含む層に接する2,9−ビス(ナフタレン−2−イル)−4,7−ジフェニル−1,10−フェナントロリンを含む層を有することを特徴とする発光素子。 - 請求項1乃至請求項6のいずれか一項において、
前記EL層は、少なくとも三環以上の縮合環骨格を有する縮合芳香族化合物又は縮合複素芳香族化合物を含む層と、前記も縮合芳香族化合物又は縮合複素芳香族化合物を含む層に接する2,9−ビス(ナフタレン−2−イル)−4,7−ジフェニル−1,10−フェナントロリンを含む層を有することを特徴とする発光素子。 - 請求項7又は請求項8において、
前記縮合芳香族化合物又は縮合複素芳香族化合物を含む層が縮合複素芳香族化合物を含む層である発光素子。 - 請求項9において、前記縮合複素芳香族化合物を含む層に含まれる縮合複素芳香族化合物は、一つの縮合環骨格内に2つの窒素原子が含まれることを特徴とする発光素子。
- 請求項9又は請求項10において、
前記発光素子がりん光発光を呈することを特徴とする発光素子。 - 請求項9乃至請求項11のいずれか一項において、
前記縮合複素芳香族化合物を含む層に、さらにイリジウムが含まれることを特徴とする発光素子。 - 請求項12において、
前記イリジウムは、前記縮合複素芳香族化合物を含む層の一部に含まれ、前記2,9−ビス(ナフタレン−2−イル)−4,7−ジフェニル−1,10−フェナントロリンを含む層と接する領域には含まれないことを特徴とする発光素子。 - 請求項1乃至請求項13のいずれか一項に記載の発光素子を有するディスプレイモジュール。
- 請求項1乃至請求項13のいずれか一項に記載の発光素子を有する照明モジュール。
- 請求項1乃至請求項13のいずれか一項に記載の発光素子と、前記発光素子を制御する手段を備えた発光装置。
