Abstract
【解決手段】第1の基板5と第2の基板6との各接着面を対向させ、第2の基板6の接着面を第1の基板5側に撓ませながら第1の基板5上に保持する保持工程と、第1の基板5と第2の基板6との最接近位置Aにディスペンスノズル12を挿入し、ディスペンスノズル12から第1の基板5及び第2の基板6に付着させながら液状充填剤7を吐出する吐出工程と、最接近位置Aに対応する第2の基板6上にラミネートロール13を降下し、第2の基板6上を転動させることにより、液状充填剤7を第1及び第2の基板5,6間に濡れ広がらせる充填工程とを有し、第2の基板6は、ラミネートロール13の転動に応じて、保持された端部が第1の基板5側へ降下していく。

Description
板状接合体2としては、例えば32インチ以上の大きさを有する大型のテレビモニタに用いて好適なものであるが、これよりも小さなサイズにも当然に用いることができる。本実施の形態では、一例として、図1に示すように、液晶層や配向膜等からなる液晶表示パネル4の表示面に設けられた対角寸法40インチの偏光板5に、対角寸法40インチかつ厚さ0.7mmの強化ガラス板からなるカバーガラス6を、当該カバーガラス6と同等の屈折率を有する透明樹脂7で貼り合わせた板状接合体2について説明する。
偏光板5とカバーガラス6とを、透明樹脂7を介して接合させる接合装置1は、図2及び図3に示すように、偏光板5が載置される載置部10と、載置部10に支持された偏光板5と対向させてカバーガラス6を支持するカバーガラス支持部11と、載置部10及びカバーガラス支持部11によって対向保持された偏光板5及びカバーガラス6との間に透明樹脂7を注入するディスペンスノズル12と、カバーガラス6上を転動して透明樹脂7を偏光板5及びカバーガラス6との間に濡れ広がらせるラミネートロール13とを備える。
偏光板5が載置される載置部10は、テーブル19上に固定され、真空吸着等の手段で、偏光板5を接着面がカバーガラス6と対向するように、鉛直上向きに保持する。
透明樹脂7を偏光板5及びカバーガラス6の間に吐出するディスペンスノズル12は、載置部10に保持された偏光板5の主面と平行に支持された筒状体を有する。また、ディスペンスノズル12は、透明樹脂7を供給するシリンジやタンク等の加圧手段21と連結されている。また、ディスペンスノズル12は、ノズル移動機構15によって、偏光板5及びカバーガラス6の最接近位置Aに沿って両基板の間隙内を、両基板に接触することなく進退可能な高さに支持される。そして、ディスペンスノズル12は、図3中反矢印X方向、図2中矢印Z方向及び紙面と直交する方向へ移動し、偏光板5及びカバーガラス6の間隙内に、最接近位置Aに沿って透明樹脂7による所定の吐出パターンを描画する。
このようなディスペンスノズル12は、ノズル移動機構15によって、カバーガラス支持部11に保持されているカバーガラス6の湾曲頂部と偏光板5との間に挿入される。この位置は、偏光板5とカバーガラス6とが最も近接する最接近位置Aであり、当該位置Aに透明樹脂7が注入される。
ラミネートロール13は、ディスペンスノズル12によって透明樹脂7が注入された偏光板5及びカバーガラス6間に透明樹脂7を濡れ広がらせるものである。ラミネートロール13は、円柱形状をなし、ロール駆動機構18に支持されることにより、カバーガラス6の上を昇降可能かつ、カバーガラス6の長手方向に転動可能とされている。
次いで、かかる接合装置1を用いて偏光板5とカバーガラス6とが貼り合わされた板状接合体2を製造する工程について、図6及び図7を参照しながら説明する。本実施の形態では、一例として、上述した、液晶表示パネルの表示面に設けられる長さ900mm、幅500mm、対角寸法40インチの矩形状の偏光板5に、対角寸法50インチかつ厚さ0.7mmの強化ガラス板からなるカバーガラス6を、当該カバーガラス6と同等の屈折率を有する透明樹脂7で貼り合わせた板状接合体2を製造する工程を説明する。
なお、上記製造工程において、カバーガラス6はカバーガラス支持部11によって両端を均等に保持されて、中央部が最も下がるように設定したが、カバーガラス6は、両端の保持高さを違えることにより中央部以外の領域に湾曲頂部が設けられ、この湾曲頂部と偏光板5との間を最接近位置Aとして、ディスペンスノズル12による透明樹脂7の注入、及びラミネートロール13の降下を行うようにしてもよい。
Claims (13)
- 第1の基板と第2の基板との各接着面を対向させ、該第2の基板の接着面を上記第1の基板側に撓ませながら該第1の基板上に保持する保持工程と、
上記第1の基板と上記第2の基板との最接近位置にディスペンスノズルを挿入し、該ディスペンスノズルから上記第1の基板及び第2の基板に付着させながら液状充填剤を吐出する吐出工程と、
上記最接近位置に対応する上記第2の基板上に押圧手段を配置し、上記第2の基板上を移動させることにより、上記液状充填剤を上記第1及び第2の基板間に濡れ広がらせる充填工程とを有し、
上記第2の基板は、上記押圧手段の移動位置に対応して上記第1の基板と平行に保持される板状接合体の製造方法。 - 上記押圧手段は、上記第2の基板上を転動するラミネートロールである請求項1に記載の板状接合体の製造方法。
- 上記充填工程は、
上記吐出位置に対応する上記第2の基板上に第1のラミネートロールを配置し、上記第2の基板の一端側に転動させることにより、上記液状充填剤を上記第1及び第2の基板の一端側に濡れ広がらせる第1の充填工程と、
上記第1のラミネートロールに続いて第2のラミネートロールを上記吐出位置に対応する上記第2の基板上に配置し、上記第2の基板の他端側に転動させることにより、上記液状充填剤を上記第1及び第2の基板の他端側に濡れ広がらせる第2の充填工程とを有する請求項2に記載の板状接合体の製造方法。 - 上記第2の基板は、上記押圧手段の移動に対応して、保持された端部が上記第1の基板側へ降下されていく請求項1〜請求項3のいずれか1項に記載の板状接合体の製造方法。
- 上記保持工程において、上記第2の基板は、外周縁の少なくとも一部を保持されることにより、自重により撓ませられている請求項1〜請求項4のいずれか1項に記載の板状接合体の製造方法。
- 上記保持工程に先立って、上記第1の基板上には予め液状充填剤が上記押圧手段の移動方向に亘ってライン状に塗布されている請求項1〜請求項5のいずれか1項に記載の板状接合体の製造方法。
- 上記第1の基板は画像表示パネルの表示面を構成する偏光板であり、
上記第2の基板は上記画像表示パネルの表面を保護するガラス板であり、
上記液状充填材は、上記偏光板と上記ガラス板とを接合する透明接着剤である請求項1〜請求項6のいずれか1項に記載の板状接合体の製造方法。 - 第1の基板が載置される載置部と、
上記第1の基板と対向される第2の基板の端部を保持し、該第2の基板の主面を上記第1の基板側に撓ませながら上記第1の基板上に支持する支持部と、
上記載置部に載置された上記第1の基板と上記支持部に支持された上記第2の基板との最接近位置に挿入され、上記第1の基板と上記第2の基板との間に亘って液状充填剤を吐出するディスペンスノズルと、
上記最接近位置に対応する上記第2の基板上に配置され、上記第2の基板上を移動することにより、上記液状充填剤を上記第1及び第2の基板間に濡れ広がらせる押圧手段とを備え、
上記第2の基板は、上記押圧手段の移動位置に対応して上記第1の基板と平行に保持される板状体の接合装置。 - 上記押圧手段は、上記第2の基板上を転動するラミネートロールである請求項8に記載の板状接合体の接合装置。
- 上記ラミネートロールは、
上記最接近位置に対応する上記第2の基板上に配置され、上記第2の基板の一端側に転動することにより、上記液状充填剤を上記第1及び第2の基板の一端側に濡れ広がらせる第1の第1のラミネートロールと、
上記第1のラミネートロールに続いて上記最接近位置に対応する上記第2の基板上に配置され、上記第2の基板の他端側に転動することにより、上記液状充填剤を上記第1及び第2の基板の他端側に濡れ広がらせる第2のラミネートロールとを有する請求項9記載の板状体の接合装置。 - 上記支持部は、上記押圧手段の移動に応じて、上記第2の基板の端部を上記第1の基板側へ降下させる請求項8〜請求項10のいずれか1項に記載の板状体の接合装置。
- 上記支持部は、上記第2の基板の外周縁の少なくとも一部を保持することにより、自重により撓ませる請求項8〜請求項11のいずれか1項に記載の板状体の接合装置。
- 上記請求項1〜請求項7のいずれか1項に記載の板状接合体の製造方法により製造された板状接合体。
