Abstract
【解決手段】分布型補償器11は、長辺と短辺からなる矩形形状の有効領域において、面内のリターデーションが18nm±5nmである。分布型補償器11の遅相軸の方向は、有効領域内における面内で連続して変化しており、有効領域の任意の2つの場所での遅相軸方向の角度差の最大値は10度から30度の範囲である。投射型表示装置は、分布型補償器11を搭載する。

Description
図1は本発明の第1の実施形態に係る投射型表示装置の構成図である。光源1aは超高圧水銀ランプであり、白色光を発する。リフレクタ1bは光源から射出した光を反射する。光源からの直接光およびリフレクタで反射された反射光は、第1のインテグレータ2a及び第2のインテグレータ2bにより光の輝度分布を均一化されたあと、偏光変換素子3により、光の偏光方向が一方向に揃えられる。揃えられた偏光をP偏光とする。
図14は第1、第2、第3の実施の形態における、パラメータおよび分布型補償器の特性を示した図である。図1、図2、図3で示される幾何学的配置は第1の実施形態と同じである。第2の実施形態では、FナンバーはF1.5に設定されている。主光線の角度が最大である画面位置での主光線の角度は±20度、最大ポーラ角度は20度である。
図14は第3の実施の形態における、諸パラメータも示している。図1、図2、図3で示される幾何学的配置は第1の実施形態と同じである。FナンバーはF3.5に設定されている。主光線の角度が最大である画面位置での主光線の角度は±3度、最大ポーラ角度は8.2度である。

Claims (3)
- 長辺と短辺からなる矩形形状の有効領域において、面内のリターデーションが18nm±5nmであり、
遅相軸の方向が前記有効領域内における面内で連続して変化しており、
前記有効領域の任意の2つの場所での前記遅相軸方向の角度差の最大値は10度から30度の範囲である、
ことを特徴とする分布型補償器。 - 光源と、
前記光源から射出する光を反射型液晶素子に照明する照明光学系と、
入射光から偏光を透過させるとともに、反射型液晶素子にて変調された変調光を検光する偏光ビームスプリッタと、
前記偏光ビームスプリッタからの光をテレセントリック照明に変換するフィールドレンズと、
請求項1記載の分布型補償器と、
前記分布型補償器を透過した光を変調する前記反射型液晶表示素子と、
前記反射型液晶素子からの変調光を投影する投射レンズを備えること、
を特徴とする液晶表示装置。 - 前記偏光ビームスプリッタは、ワイヤーグリッドタイプの偏光ビームスプリッタであることを特徴とする請求項2記載の液晶表示装置。
