Abstract
【解決手段】組成式LixNi1−yMyO2(ただし、0≦x≦1.2、0≦y<0.5であり、Mは、Al、Mg、Mn、Fe、Co、Cu、Zn、Al、Ti、Ge、W及びZrよりなる群から選ばれる少なくとも一種以上の金属元素である。)で表わされる正極活物質を用い、この正極活物質の表面をA2CO3及びAOH(ただし、Aはアルカリ金属である。)のうち少なくとも一種以上の化合物で被覆し、この化合物の表面をスルホ基、又はスルホ基及びカルボキシル基を含むポリマーで被覆する。

Description
まず、NiSO4水溶液に所定量のCoおよびAlの硫酸塩を加えた。その溶液に水酸化ナトリウムの水溶液を滴下して、Ni0.74Co0.20Al0.06(OH)2を作製した。その後、水酸化物を採取し、水洗後、乾燥させた。乾燥させた水酸化物を大気中において610℃で加熱して、Ni0.74Co0.20Al0.06O2を合成した。合成したNi0.74Co0.20Al0.06O2に水酸化リチウムを、Ni、CoおよびAlの原子数の和とLiの原子数との比率が1.05よりもわずかに多くなるように加え、乾燥空気中において780℃で加熱することにより、化合物Li1.01Ni0.74Co0.20Al0.06O2を合成した。
正極活物質、導電剤(黒鉛:日本黒鉛工業(株)製、SP270)及びバインダー(ポリフッ化ビニリデン:(株)クレハ製、KF1120)を重量比85:10:10で混合して正極合剤とし、この正極合剤をN−メチル−2−ピロリドンに投入混合してスラリー状の溶液を作製した。このスラリー状の溶液を厚さ20μmのアルミニウム箔にドクターブレード法で塗布し、乾燥した。正極合剤の塗布量は、200g/m2 であった。その後、プレスし、10cm2の大きさに電極を裁断して正極を作製した。
グラファイトを重量比90:10で混合して負極合剤とし、この負極合剤をN−メチル−2−ピロリドンに投入混合してスラリー状の溶液を作製した。このスラリー状の溶液を厚さ20μmの銅箔にドクターブレード法で塗布し、乾燥した。負極合剤のかさ密度が1.0g/cm3になるようにプレスし、10cm2の大きさに電極を裁断して正極を作製した。
正極と負極との間に、ポリオレフィン製のセパレータを挿入し、電極群を形成した。そこに電解液を注液した。その後、電池をアルミ製ラミネートで封入し、電池を作製した。その後、充放電を3サイクル繰り返すことにより電池を初期化した。
1.電池の初期容量
電池の充電は、予め設定した上限電圧まで電流密度0.1mA/cm2で充電した。放電は、予め設定した下限電圧まで、電流密度0.1mA/cm2で放電した。上限電圧は4.2V、下限電圧は2.5Vであった。1サイクル目に得られた放電容量を、電池の初期容量とした。
作製した電池は、電圧範囲4.2V〜2.5V、電流密度0.1mA/cm2で充放電した。この条件で充放電を繰り返してサイクル評価を実施した。サイクル評価は、50サイクル行い、50サイクル後の容量を初期容量で割ることにより、容量維持率を算出した。
別途、ラミネート電池を作製し、初期化した。その電池を、4.2Vに充電した。その後、85℃の恒温槽に入れて24時間保存した。24時間保存した後、電池を取り出し、電池を室温まで冷却し、発生したガスをシリンジで捕集した。
モデルセルと同様に角型電池を作製した。角型電池のサイズは、縦43mm、横34mm、厚さ4.6mmであった。作製した電池は、4.2Vに充電した後、85℃の恒温槽に入れて24時間保存した。その後、室温まで冷却し、電池の厚さを測定した。電池の厚さは、電池の中心点で測定し、加熱前後の電池の厚さから電池の膨れを算出した。
モノマーを反応容器に入れ、重合開始剤を加えた。重合開始剤は、AIBNを用いた。重合開始剤の濃度は、モノマーの総量に対し1wt%になるように加えた。その後、60℃に加熱したオイルバスに反応容器を入れ、3時間加熱することによりポリマーを合成した。加熱した後、反応溶媒を除去し、ポリマーを洗浄した後、乾燥した。
TOF−SIMS(飛行時間型二次イオン質量分析計:Time−of−Flight Secondary Ion Mass Spectometer)は、アルバック・ファイ(株)製のTRIFT(III)を使用した。測定において、一次イオンはAu+を使用した。
実施例1において、ポリマーを加えずに作製した正極活物質を用いて正極を作製した。
被覆材としてエチルセルロース10mgを100gの水に溶解した。つぎに、10gの正極活物質(LiNi0.74Co0.20Al0.06O2)をエチルセルロースの水溶液に加えた。その後、95℃に加熱したオイルバスで水を蒸発させ、ポリマーであるエチルセルロースで正極活物質を被覆した(以下、正極活物質(11)と呼ぶ。)。
実施例3において、ビニルスルホン酸ナトリウム(モノマー(1))をあらかじめ重合させることなく、水溶液にし、モノマー(1)で正極活物質(LiNi0.74Co0.20Al0.06O2)を被覆し、ラミネート電池を作製した。モノマー(1)の添加量は、正極活物質の重量に対して0.1wt%にした。電池の初期容量は21mAhであり、容量維持率は30%であった。また、ラミネート電池が大きく膨らんだため、以後の評価は実施しなかった。
実施例1において、ビニルスルホン酸ナトリウム(モノマー(1))及びアクリル酸ナトリウム(モノマー(2))をあらかじめ重合させることなく、水溶液にし、モノマー(1)及びモノマー(2)で正極活物質(LiNi0.74Co0.20Al0.06O2)を被覆し、ラミネート電池を作製した。添加量は、正極活物質の重量に対して0.1wt%にした。電池の初期容量は25mAhであり、容量維持率は25%であった。また、ラミネート電池が大きく膨らんだため、以後の評価は実施しなかった。

- 組成式LixNi1−yMyO2(ただし、0≦x≦1.2、0≦y<0.5であり、Mは、Al、Mg、Mn、Fe、Co、Cu、Zn、Al、Ti、Ge、W及びZrよりなる群から選ばれる少なくとも一種以上の金属元素である。)で表わされる正極活物質の表面をA2CO3及びAOH(ただし、Aはアルカリ金属である。)のうち少なくとも一種以上の化合物で被覆し、前記化合物の表面をスルホ基、又はスルホ基及びカルボキシル基を含むポリマーで被覆したことを特徴とするリチウム二次電池用正極材料。
- 飛行時間型二次イオン質量分析法により測定される前記ポリマーのシグナルは、質量数64のSO2 −及び質量数80のSO3 −に由来するシグナルのうち少なくともいずれかを含むことを特徴とする請求項1記載のリチウム二次電池用正極材料。
- 被覆に用いた前記ポリマーの量は、前記正極活物質に対して0.001〜10wt%であることを特徴とする請求項1又は2に記載のリチウム二次電池用正極材料。
- 請求項1〜3のいずれか一項に記載のリチウム二次電池用正極材料を用いたことを特徴とするリチウム二次電池。
- 外形が角型であることを特徴とする請求項4記載のリチウム二次電池。
