Abstract
Description
その表面の少なくとも一方の上に光指向性の突起を有する追加の透明層を、反射層によって反射される光路中に配置することにより、光学特性に幾つかの利点をもたらすことが見出されている。例えば、透明層はバックライトの出力面全体にわたって輝度の均一性を向上させるのに役立ち、これにより、全体的輝度を犠牲にすること無く、そのようなバックライトを使用するディスプレイ外観の向上がもたらされる。
本開示の後部反射体スタックには、いかなる種類の反射層も使用できる。反射層は、鏡面反射成分、拡散反射成分又はそれらの両方を含む反射率を有することができる。幾つかの代表的な実施形態では、反射層は鏡面反射体である。好適な反射層の例には、それらに限定されないが、銀コーティング又はアルミニウムコーティングのミラー若しくはミラーフィルムのような金属反射層、多層ポリマー反射フィルム、多層無機フィルム、拡散コーティング剤でコーティングされた鏡面反射体、粒子装填ポリマーフィルム、粒子装填空隙ポリマーフィルム及び背面散乱反射体のようなポリマー反射層が挙げられる。実例となる反射偏光素子のこのリストは、好適な反射偏光素子の網羅的なリストとなることを意図するものではない。入射光の、例えば少なくとも40%、少なくとも50%、好ましくは少なくとも70%、及びより好ましくは少なくとも80%を反射するいかなる反射層も使用できる。
本開示による後部反射体スタックは、ディスプレイシステムに好適なバックライトを含む種々の用途に使用できる。特定の理論にゆだねるわけではないが、本明細書に記載の新規な直接照明バックライトの背後にある光学原理は、光源の背面から放射される比較的少量の光だけを、目視者に面した光源上部の領域に指向することであると考えられている。結果は、鏡面反射体の場合よりも高いが拡散反射体の場合よりも低い、光源の上部領域の輝度レベルであり、バックライト出力の全体的均一性の改善をもたらす。
図6及び図7A〜7Cを使用して、新規の後部反射体スタックによる発光灯を隠す性能を、入手可能な白色拡散後部反射体及び入手可能な鏡面後部反射体と比較できる。これらの図は、10台の発光灯のシャープ(Sharp)76.2cm(30インチ)LCD TV、モデル番号LC−30HV4Vを用いて得た。元のTVは12のCCFL発光灯及び白色後部反射体を装備している。これらの実施例のために後部反射体の修正を実行した。図6は、デジタルカメラ(米国、ワシントン州デュヴァル(Duvall)、ラディアント・イメージング(Radiant Imaging)社の測光カラーCCD光測定システム(Photometric Color CCD Light Measurement System))で撮ったデジタル画像である。垂直線は、図7A〜7Cを作成するために、3つの異なる後部反射体領域に対してルミナンスプロファイルが採られた場所を示す。
この実施例は、本開示による代表的な後部反射体スタックが従来の拡散反射体よりも更に効果的に輝度均一性を改善できることを示す。この実施例のバックライトは、35mmの発光灯間隔及び17mmのキャビティ深さを有する試験台であり、それは従来の12の発光灯ベースの81.3cm(32インチ)LCDTVに近い。トップフィルムには2mmの拡散板、及び上にBEFプリズムがコーティングされたDBEF(DTV)が含まれた。
この実施例では、透明層は、実施例1に用いたのと同じビーズ含有拡散器(恵和(Keiwa)社のビーズ含有拡散器、「オパルス(OPALUS)BS−04」、100μmPET基材上で140μm厚さ、ヘイズガードプラス(Haze-gard Plus)(米国、メリーランド州シルバースプリングのBYKガードナー(BYK Gardner)社)で測定して89.5%のヘイズレベルを有する)であった。この透明層をオプト1(Opt1)感圧性接着剤(PSA)を用いてESRフィルムに積層した。
Claims (20)
- ディスプレイデバイス用途に好適なバックライトであって、前記バックライトが、
少なくとも1つの光源を含む照明デバイスと、
反射層及び実質的均一な屈折率を有する透明層を有し、かつマトリックスアレイ中に配置された複数の光指向性突起を有する後部反射体スタックであって、前記透明層は、前記反射層と前記照明デバイスとの間に、前記複数の光指向性突起が前記反射層とは反対側に向くように配置される、後部反射体スタックとを有し、
前記複数の光指向性突起が、前記照明デバイスのいかなる光源とも位置合わせされていない設定で構成され、配置される、バックライト。 - 前記照明デバイスが、前記後部反射体スタックによって反射された光の光路の中に配置された導光体と、前記導光体の角部と光学的に結合された、少なくとも1つの光源とを有する、請求項1に記載のバックライト。
- 前記導光体が、楔形状である、請求項2に記載のバックライト。
- 前記照明デバイスが、前記後部反射体スタックによって反射された光の光路の中に配置された、少なくとも1つの光源を有する、請求項1に記載のバックライト。
- 前記反射層が、鏡面反射成分を有する、請求項1に記載のバックライト。
- 前記反射層が、少なくとも2つの多様性ポリマー材料の複数の挟み込み層を有する、請求項1に記載のバックライト。

- 前記後部反射体スタックが、前記透明層と前記反射層との間に配置された拡散器を更に有する、請求項1に記載のバックライト。

少なくとも1つの光源を有する照明デバイスと、
反射層と結合剤中に配置された複数のビーズを含む透明層とを有する後部反射体スタックであって、前記ビーズが複数の光指向性突起を形成し、かつ前記結合剤が前記ビーズの屈折率に近い屈折率を有し、前記透明層は、前記反射層と前記照明デバイスとの間に、前記複数の光指向性突起が前記反射層とは反対側に向くように配置される、後部反射体スタックとを有し、
前記複数の光指向性突起が、前記照明デバイスのいかなる光源とも位置合わせされていない設定で構成され、配置される、バックライト。 - 前記結合剤の屈折率が、前記ビーズの屈折率の0.1以内でである、請求項11に記載のバックライト。
- 前記結合剤が、電離放射線硬化性材料を含む、請求項11に記載のバックライト。
- 前記照明デバイスが、前記後部反射体スタックによって反射される光の光路の中に配置される導光体と、導光体の角部と光学的に結合される、少なくとも1つの光源とを有する、請求11に記載のバックライト。
