Abstract
【解決手段】液晶表示装置1は、薄膜トランジスタ12のチャネルを構成する半導体層14を、金属材料によって形成されるゲート線11の上方に配置することにより、ゲート線11の一部が薄膜トランジスタ12のゲートを兼ねる構成になっている。また、液晶表示装置1は、画素電極25と、この画素電極25に対して対向配置された対向電極21とを備えている。対向電極21には、対向電極ホール22が形成されており、薄膜トランジスタ12と画素電極25との間を導通する第1コンタクト15が対向電極ホール22を通過している。そして、対向電極ホール22の一部がゲート線11とオーバーラップしている。

Description
図1は、本発明の第1の実施の形態に係る液晶表示装置の要部の平面構成を表すものである。図2および図3は、図1に示した液晶表示装置の一部(コンタクト周辺部)を拡大して表すものである。但し、図3では、要素の一部(画素電極等)を省略して図示している。図4は、図2のA−A線における矢視断面構造を表すものである。
(1)第1コンタクト115がゲート線111から完全に離れた位置に形成されており、第1コンタクト115による遮光面積とゲート線111による遮光面積との和が大きい。
(2)ゲート線111からゲート112aを引き出してTFT112のゲートとしているので、ゲート線111による遮光面積にゲート112aによる遮光面積が加わる。
さらに、本実施の形態の液晶表示装置1では、TFT12のゲート12aがゲート線11と兼用になっている(すなわち、ゲート線11の一部をそのままTFT12のゲートとして利用している)ので、この点においても、遮光領域の面積が比較例の場合よりも小さくなる。
これらのことから、全体としての遮光量を低減でき、透過光量を増加させることができるので、表示輝度が向上する。
図9は、第2の実施の形態の液晶表示装置2における第1コンタクト15の部分を拡大したものを表すものである。ここでは、第1の実施の形態と同様の構成部分には同番号を付し、その説明を省略または簡略する。本実施の形態の液晶表示装置2は、画素電極40に形成されるスリット41のうちのさらに2本(右側から2本目と左側から2本目)を第1の実施の形態の場合より長くし、スリット41の一部が第1コンタクト15の延在部分15aと重なるようにしたものである。本実施の形態では、画素電極25のスリット26のうちの4本を、TFT12のゲート12aの直近まで延ばしているので、第1の実施の形態の液晶表示装置1と比較して、図9において斜線で示すX2の領域が入射光透過可能領域となり、その分だけ表示輝度が向上する。
図10は、第3の実施の形態の液晶表示装置3の第1コンタクト15の部分を拡大したものを表すものである。本実施の形態の液晶表示装置3は、層間絶縁膜ホール20を形成する側面と、画素絶縁膜ホール24を形成する側面との少なくともいずれか1面が同一面内にあるように形成されると共に、画素電極40に形成されるスリット41が図9に示す第2の実施の形態と同様に形成されたものである。
Claims (5)
- 複数の開口が形成された画素電極と、
絶縁層を介して前記画素電極と対向するように積層配置された対向電極と、
前記画素電極の、前記対向電極とは反対側に積層配置された液晶層と、
画素選択用の選択線と、
前記対向電極の、前記画素電極とは反対側に積層配置され、前記選択線の一部をそのままゲートとして利用するように構成された画素駆動用の薄膜トランジスタと
を備え、
前記薄膜トランジスタと前記画素電極との間を接続する層間導通部が通過し得るように前記対向電極に対向電極ホールが設けられ、かつ、前記対向電極ホールの一部が前記選択線とオーバーラップしている
液晶表示装置。 - 前記層間導通部が、前記対向電極と前記選択線との間の階層において前記対向電極ホールの一部と前記選択線とのオーバーラップ領域を覆うように積層面に沿って延在する延在部分を有する
請求項1に記載の液晶表示装置。 - 前記対向電極ホールの内周縁領域のうち前記オーバーラップ領域に臨む領域を除く領域が、前記層間導通部における他の延在部分もしくは前記画素電極、またはそれらの双方とオーバーラップしている
請求項2に記載の液晶表示装置。 - 前記対向電極と前記層間導通部との間に層間絶縁膜が設けられ、
前記絶縁層および前記層間絶縁膜に、前記絶縁層の表面から前記層間導通部まで同径で貫通する穴が設けられている
請求項2に記載の液晶表示装置。 - 前記画素電極の開口は、スリット状に形成されたものであり、前記選択線の直近まで延設されている
請求項1に記載の液晶表示装置。
