Abstract
【解決手段】半透過型液晶表示装置用の光学λ/4層を形成する方法は、基板上に反応性液晶材料層を被着する工程と、前記半透過型液晶表示装置の透過部に対応する部分を覆い、反射部に対応する部分を露呈するマスクを当てはめる工程と、前記反応性液晶材料層を第1の温度に保ちながら、前記反応性液晶材料層の第1の光重合露光を実行する工程と、前記反応性液晶材料層を第2の温度に保ちながら、前記反応性液晶材料層の第2の光重合露光を実行する工程と、を有し、前記第1及び第2の光重合露光のうちの一つが前記マスクを通して行われる。

Description
P=dΔn/λ (1)
によって決定される。ここで、dは液晶層及びあらゆるホイルの全厚、Δnは液晶材料の屈折率異方性、λは入射光の波長である。電圧を電極に与えることによってセルに印加される電界に液晶層12、22のディレクタが平行なときに構成の暗状態が発生する場合、セルの波長依存性が低下することが知られている。従って、高電界で暗状態を有する光学モードは、反射/電圧曲線が或る電圧で最小値を通るような光学モードよりも良好なコントラスト比を与える。このような光学モードは、前面偏光子と液晶層との間に1/4波長ホイル又は場合に応じて広帯域1/4ホイルを配することによって得ることが可能である。
Claims (2)
- 半透過型液晶表示装置用の光学λ/4層を形成する方法であって、
基板上に反応性液晶材料層を被着する工程と、
前記半透過型液晶表示装置の透過部に対応する部分を覆い、反射部に対応する部分を露呈するマスクを当てはめる工程と、
前記反応性液晶材料層を第1の温度に保ちながら、前記反応性液晶材料層の第1の光重合露光を実行する工程と、
前記反応性液晶材料層を第2の温度に保ちながら、前記反応性液晶材料層の第2の光重合露光を実行する工程と、
を有し、
前記第1及び第2の光重合露光のうちの一つが前記マスクを通して行われる半透過型液晶表示装置用の光学λ/4層を形成する方法。 - 前記第1及び第2の温度が、それぞれ前記反応性液晶材料層がネマティック液晶相にあるときの温度及び前記反応性液晶材料層のクリアリングポイントより上の温度である請求項1に記載の半透過型液晶表示装置用の光学λ/4層を形成する方法。
