本出願は、Ashutosh Pande,Lionel J.Garin,Kanwar ChadhaおよびGregory B.Turetzkyにより2001年2月28日に出願され2002年7月30日に米国特許第6,427,120号として発行された米国特許出願第09/795,871号(表題「無線ネットワークと共に使用されるマルチモードGPSにおける情報転送:INFORMATION TRANSFER IN A MULTI−MODE GPS USED WITH WIRELESS NETWORKS」)を基礎として優先権を主張する、L.Garin,L.Peng,G.ZhangおよびN.Vantalonにより2002年5月22日に出願され2004年1月27日に米国特許第6,684,158号として発行された米国特許一部継続出願第10/155,614号(表題「無線ネットワークと共に使用されるマルチモードGPSにおける探索領域を縮小する周波数転送:SEARCH DOMAIN REDUCING FREQUENCY TRANSFER IN A MULTI−MODE GPS USED WITH WIRELESS NETWORKS」)を基礎として優先権を主張する、A.Pande,Lionel J.Garin,K.Chadha,L.Peng,G.Zhang,N.VantalonおよびGregory B.Turetzkyにより2003年5月22日に出願され2003年12月4日に公開された国際特許出願第PCT/US03/16308号(表題「無線ネットワークと共に使用されるマルチモードGPSにおける探索領域を縮小する周波数転送:SEARCH DOMAIN REDUCING FREQUENCY TRANSFER IN A MULTI−MODE GPS USED WITH WIRELESS NETWORKS」)の一部継続出願である、A.Pande,Lionel J.Garin,K.Chadha,L.Peng,G.Zhang,N.VantalonおよびGregory B.Turetzkyにより2004年7月3日に出願された米国特許出願第10/885,507号(表題「支援型測位通信システム:AIDED LOCATION COMMUNICATION SYSTEM」)の一部継続出願である、2004年12月22日出願の米国非仮特許出願第11/022,294号(表題「衛星測位支援型の通信システムの選択:SATELLITE POSITIONING AIDED COMMUNICATION SYSTEM SELECTION」)に基づく優先権を主張する。これら全ての出願は、参照により本明細書に援用される。
本発明は、概して移動通信システムに関し、詳細には衛星測位システム(SATPS:Satellite Positioning Systems)と通信システムの複合に関する。
このような通信装置は、ソフトウェアに従って通信機能とGPS機能を実現する、汎用のRF受信機のハードウェア部分を実現する汎用のハードウェアを有してよい。この受信機は、セルラ電話などの通信装置が通信ネットワークにアクセスできるかどうかを判断する。この手法では、測位データと、通信ネットワークに関連する地理情報を用いて、その通信装置の近傍に存在するセルサイトの周波数と通信ネットワークのみを探索する。別の手法では、通信ネットワークがGPS機能に支援情報を提供して、通信装置の位置を確定するための時間を短縮する。通信装置は、GPS受信機を搭載していてもよいし、あるいは別のネットワークを介して他の装置から測位情報を受信してもよい。
Claims (25)
- 測位信号の受信と通信ネットワーク信号の受信との間でチューニング可能な受信機と、
少なくとも一つの通信ネットワークに関連する地理データを有するメモリと、
前記受信機が前記測位信号を受信すると前記受信機から測位データを受信するように前記受信機に結合された制御装置を備える装置であって、
前記メモリが、前記少なくとも一つの通信ネットワークにアクセスするためのパラメータを検索するためにアクセスされる装置。 - 前記地理データが、前記受信機で受信され、前記制御装置により前記メモリに格納される、請求項1に記載の装置。
- 前記制御装置が、前記測位信号を処理する衛星測位装置として、および前記通信ネットワーク信号を処理する通信装置として機能するように、ソフトウェアにより設定可能である、請求項1に記載の装置。
- 前記受信機に結合された共通アンテナをさらに備える、請求項1に記載の装置。
- 前記受信機が、送受信機である、請求項1に記載の装置。
- 前記装置によって前記少なくとも一つの通信ネットワークが連絡可能でない場合に、前記制御装置によって設定される所定期間を設定可能なタイマをさらに備える、請求項1に記載の装置。
- 前記地理データが、セルサイト情報を備える、請求項1に記載の装置。
- 前記地理データが、さらにセルサイトに関連した複数の周波数を備える、請求項7に記載の装置。
- 前記受信機が、さらに
前記測位信号に関連する第1のRFチップと、
前記通信ネットワーク信号に関連する第2のRFチップと、
前記第1のRFチップからの前記測位信号の受信と、前記第2のRFチップからの前記通信ネットワーク信号の受信を設定可能なベースバンド処理装置を備える、請求項1に記載の装置。 - 測位信号の受信と通信ネットワーク信号の受信との間で受信機をチューニングする工程と、
少なくとも一つの通信ネットワークに関連する地理データをメモリに格納する工程と、
前記受信機が前記測位信号を受信すると、前記受信機からの測位データを、前記受信機に結合された制御装置で処理する工程を備える通信方法であって、
前記メモリが、前記少なくとも一つの通信ネットワークにアクセスするためのパラメータを検索するためにアクセスされる、通信方法。 - 前記受信機において前記地理データを受信する工程と、
前記制御装置により前記地理データを前記メモリに格納する工程をさらに備える、請求項10に記載の方法。 - 前記制御装置を、前記測位信号を処理する衛星測位装置として、および前記通信ネットワーク信号を処理する通信装置として機能するように、ソフトウェアにより設定する工程をさらに備える、請求項10に記載の方法。
- 前記受信機に共通アンテナが結合されている、請求項10に記載の方法。
- 前記受信機が送受信機である、請求項10に記載の方法。
- 前記少なくとも一つの通信ネットワークが連絡可能でない場合に、所定期間をタイマに設定する工程をさらに備える、請求項10に記載の方法。
- 前記地理データが、セルサイト情報を備える、請求項10に記載の方法。
- 前記地理データが、さらにセルサイトに関連した複数の周波数を備える、請求項16に記載の方法。
- 前記チューニングする工程が、さらに
前記測位信号に関連する第1のRFチップにおいて受信する工程と、
前記通信ネットワーク信号に関連する第2のRFチップにおいて受信する工程と、
前記第1のRFチップからの前記測位信号の受信と、前記第2のRFチップからの前記通信ネットワーク信号の受信を設定可能なベースバンド処理装置を設定する工程をさらに備える、請求項10に記載の方法。 - 通信装置を制御するための機械可読命令を有する信号担持媒体であって、
測位信号の受信と通信ネットワーク信号の受信との間で受信機をチューニングするための機械可読命令の第1のセットと、
少なくとも一つの通信ネットワークに関係する地理データをメモリに格納するための機械可読命令の第2のセットと、
前記受信機が前記測位信号を受信すると、前記受信機からの測位データを、前記受信機に結合された制御装置で処理するための機械可読命令の第3のセットを備えており、
前記メモリが、前記少なくとも一つの通信ネットワークにアクセスするためのパラメータを検索するためにアクセスされる、信号担持媒体。 - 前記受信機において前記地理データを受信するための機械可読命令の第4のセットと、
前記制御装置により前記地理データを前記メモリに格納するための機械可読命令の第5のセットをさらに備える、請求項19に記載の信号担持媒体。 - 前記制御装置を、前記測位信号を処理する衛星測位装置として、および前記通信ネットワーク信号を処理する通信装置として機能するように、ソフトウェアにより設定するための機械可読命令の第4のセットをさらに備える、請求項19に記載の信号担持媒体。
- 前記受信機が、前記機械可読命令の第1のセットによりチューニングされる送受信機である、請求項19に記載の信号担持媒体。
- 前記通信装置によって前記少なくとも一つの通信ネットワークが連絡可能でない場合に、所定期間をタイマに設定するための機械可読命令の第4のセットを備える、請求項19に記載の信号担持媒体。
- 前記地理データが、セルサイト情報を備える、請求項19に記載の信号担持媒体。
- 前記地理データが、さらにセルサイトに関連した複数の周波数を備える、請求項24に記載の信号担持媒体。
