Abstract
【解決手段】薄いシート14は第1面と第2面とを備え、薄い材料の少なくとも片面は実質的に接着剤によってコーティングされている。この方法では、所定パターンに配置された隆起領域を有したパターン化アンビル上に接着剤を塗布した薄いシート剤を設置し、ここに隆起領域の高さは薄い材料の厚みと等しいかそれより低く、薄いシート材料は充分な量の音波振動を受けることにより薄いシート及び接着剤に穿孔が行われ、これにより薄いシート及び接着剤はパターン化アンビル32上の隆起領域のパターンと全体として同一のパターンで穿孔される。

Description
本発明は、ほぼ均一なパターンで薄いシート材料に孔をあける方法に関する。
超音波工学は、基本的には可聴周波数の限界を超える音波の効果に関する科学である。高いパワーを有する超音波を利用する目的は、被処理材料に或る程度の永久的な物理変化を与えることにある。この方法は、単位面積又は体積当たりの振動エネルギの流れを必要とする。用途に応じて、必要なパワー密度は1平方センチメートル当たり1ワット未満から数千ワットまでの範囲にある。初期の超音波パワー装置は通信周波数で作動したが、現在の殆どの装置は20〜69kHzで作動する。
従来技術の前記問題点と困難性を解決するために、我々は、概括的に述べれば、約8ミル(0.2mm)以上の厚さを有するシート材料に、それぞれ約0.05mm2 以上の面積を有する孔を設ける方法を開発した。この方法は、第1面と第2面を有し、少なくとも一方の面が接着剤で実質的にコーティングされた薄いシート材料を供給し、(a)この接着剤でコーティングされた薄いシート材料を、該シート材料と接着剤の厚さと同じかそれよりも低い高さを有する突出したパターン領域を有するパターン付きアンビル上に載せ、(b)前記薄いシート材料に少なくとも約10000サイクル/秒の充分な量の音波振動を付与し、それによって、前記シート材料と接着剤とに、パターン付きアンビルの突出領域のパターンとほぼ同じパターンで、約0.05mm2 よりも大きい面積を有する孔をあけるステップで構成されている。
ここで使われている「接着剤 (adhesive) 」とは、連続シート材料等の大きな表面領域に延展するのに適したすべての感圧性接着剤のことを指す。これらの接着剤の例としては、アクリレート、ポリアクリレート、ポリアルファオレフィン等のポリオレフィン、天然及びブチルゴム、ポリイソプレン、ポリウレタン、スチレン−オレフィン共重合体等のブロック共重合体、ポリエーテル、ポリエステル等であり、必要に応じて粘着性付与剤を含む場合と含まない場合とがあるが、これらに限定されるものではない。
同じ符号が同じ構成部分に付されている前記図面を参照すると、特に図1には本発明の方法を実施することのできる装置が符号10で示されている。穿孔される薄いシート材料14の供給ロール12が設けられている。前述したように、薄いシート材料と言う言葉は、約8ミル(0.2mm)以上の平均厚さを有するシート材料を指している。例えば、この薄いシート材料14の平均厚さは、約5〜約250ミル(0.13〜6.4mm)の範囲にある。更に詳しくは、この薄いシート材料14の平均厚さは、約8〜約120ミル(0.02〜3.05mm)の範囲にある。もっと詳しくは、この薄いシート材料14の平均厚さは、約10〜約60ミル(0.254〜1.5mm)の範囲にある。
図4に模式的に示されている、2対1ブースタ付きの1.27cm×15.24cmのチタン製ホーンを具えた6.35cmのエアシリンダを用いた400シリーズのBranson 超音波溶接装置(コネチカット州Danbury のBranson Ultrasonics Corp. から市販されている)を使用して、以下に述べる各実施例に音波振動を供給した。この超音波ホーンは、各実施例において、約20,000サイクル/秒の振動を供給するように作動した。
この実施例は、本発明のポリウレタン不織布ウェブに孔をあけるのに適した種々の直線速度と印加力を示している。
この実施例は、パターン付きアンビル上に弾性材料がある場合と無い場合に、本発明がどのように作動するかを示している。
この実施例は、種々の構成の薄いシート材料が本発明によって穿孔されることを示している。更に、この実施例は、パターン付きアンビルの弾性被覆層として、種々の材料が使用されることを示している。
Claims (10)
- 第1面と第2面とを有し、少なくとも一方の面にはライナーが平面的に積層され、必要に応じて接着剤がコーティングされた薄いシート材料であって、該シート材料と必要に応じて設けられた接着剤とライナーとで複合シート材料が構成されている前記シート材料に、約0.05mm2 より大きい面積の孔をあける方法であって、
(a)薄いシート材料と必要に応じて設けられた接着剤との厚さに等しいかそれよりも低い高さの突出領域のパターンを有するパターン付きアンビルの上に前記複合シート材料を載せ、
(b)薄いシート材料と必要に応じて設けられた接着剤とに孔をあけるのに充分な量の音波振動を該複合シート材料付与し、
これによって、パターン付きアンビルの突出領域のパターンとほぼ同じパターンで薄いシート材料と必要に応じて設けられた接着剤とが穿孔されるが、ライナーは穿孔されない方法。 - 前記ライナーがシリコーンでコーティングされた剥離紙で構成されている請求項1に記載の方法。
- 前記薄いシート材料が不織布ウェブで構成されている請求項1に記載の方法。
- 前記薄いシート材料がフィルムで構成されている請求項1に記載の方法。
- 前記接着剤が基本的にアクリル接着剤からなる群から選ばれている請求項1に記載の方法。
- 前記パターン付きアンビルが、突出領域を有する円筒形のローラである請求項1に記載の方法。
- 前記薄いシート材料が、少なくとも8ミル(0.2mm)の厚さを有する請求項1に記載の方法。
- 前記音波振動が、約15,000〜約40,000サイクル/秒の範囲にある請求項1に記載の方法。
- 第1面と第2面とを有し、少なくとも一方の面にはライナーが平面的に積層され、必接着剤が薄いシート材料の少なくとも一方の面にコーティングされた薄いシート材料であって、該シート材料と接着剤とライナーとで複合シート材料が構成されている前記シート材料に、約0.05mm2 より大きい面積の孔をあける方法であって、
(a)薄いシート材料と接着剤との厚さに等しいかそれよりも低い高さの突出領域のパターンを有するパターン付きアンビルの上に前記複合シート材料を載せ、
(b)複合シート材料と接着剤とに孔をあけるのに充分な量の音波振動を前記複合シート材料に付与し、
これによって、パターン付きアンビルの突出領域のパターンとほぼ同じパターンで薄いシート材料と接着剤とが液体を使用せずに穿孔されるが、ライナーは穿孔されない方法。 - 第1面と第2面とを有し、少なくとも一方の面が接着剤で実質的にコーティングされると共に、約0.05mm2 より大きい面積を有する複数の孔を有する薄いシート材料であって、該孔は、
(a)接着剤でコーティングされた薄いシート材料を、該シート材料と接着剤の厚さよりも低い高さを有する突出領域のパターンを有するパターン付きアンビルの上に載せ、
(b)前記薄いシート材料と接着剤とに孔をあけるのに充分な量の音波振動を付与し、
これによって、パターン付きアンビルの突出領域のパターンとほぼ同じパターンで薄いシート材料と接着剤とに孔をあける方法によって穿孔されている薄いシート材料。
