Abstract
【解決手段】 液晶表示装置1では、同一フィールド期間において、走査線Y(1)および蓄積容量線CL(1)から、走査線Y(30)および蓄積容量線CL(30)までが順次に駆動され、これに同期して、走査線Y(211)および蓄積容量線CL(211)から、走査線Y(240)および蓄積容量線CL(240)までが順次に駆動され、その後、走査線Y(31)および蓄積容量線CL(31)から、走査線Y(210)および蓄積容量線CL(210)までが順次に駆動されることで、アスペクト比16:9の表示が行われる。

Description
まず、第1の実施の形態に係る液晶表示装置について説明する。
まず、液晶表示装置1がアスペクト比4:3で表示を行う場合、すなわち通常時における動作を図1と図2を参照して説明する。
次に、液晶表示装置1がアスペクト比16:9で表示を行う場合の動作を図1を参照して説明する。
液晶表示装置1では、ワイド制御信号が与えられると、アスペクト比切替スイッチASWの端子ASW2と端子ASW3とが導通する。ここで垂直同期信号が入力されると、この垂直同期信号がシフトレジスタSR(1)とシフトレジスタSR(211)を動作させる。なお、アスペクト比16:9の場合、垂直同期信号は、余白領域の駆動に要する時間だけ、アスペクト比4:3の場合よりも早く与えられる。
前述のようにシフトレジスタSR(31)が動作しているときは、走査線Y(31)の電圧が高電圧Vghになり、走査線Y(31)に接続された画素トランジスタQが導通する。

ここで、Vsは映像信号の電圧、Vcomは対向電極の電圧、Vehは補償電圧(蓄積容量線)が高電圧のときの電圧、Velは補償電圧(蓄積容量線)が低電圧のときの電圧、Vghはゲート(走査線)が高電圧のときの電圧、Vglはゲート(走査線)が低電圧のときの電圧、Cgdは、ゲートドレイン間容量、Cstは補助容量Cの容量、Clcは液晶の容量である。
図5は、第2の実施の形態に係る液晶表示装置(液晶表示装置1Aという)の回路と駆動順序を示す図である。
次に、液晶表示装置1Aがアスペクト比16:9で表示を行う場合の動作を図5を参照して説明する。
液晶表示装置1Aでは、ワイド制御信号が与えられて、アスペクト比切替スイッチASWの端子ASW2と端子ASW3とが導通しているときに、垂直同期信号が入力されると、この垂直同期信号がシフトレジスタSRCとシフトレジスタSR(211)を動作させる。
液晶表示装置1Aがアスペクト比16:9で表示を行う場合の中央領域での動作は、各ラインの駆動が水平走査期間HT21だけ遅れことを除いては、液晶表示装置1がアスペクト比16:9で表示を行う場合の中央領域での動作と同じなので、この動作説明は省略する。

Claims (5)
- 複数の信号線と複数の走査線とが交差し、前記走査線と信号線とが交差する各交差部に当該走査線の駆動により導通する画素トランジスタと該導通した画素トランジスタにより当該信号線からの映像信号が書き込まれる画素電極とが配置され、該画素電極との間に補助容量を構成する蓄積容量線が各走査線に沿って形成されたアレイ基板と、該アレイ基板に対し液晶層を挟んで対向する対向基板と、前記各信号線に映像信号を供給する信号線駆動回路と、前記各走査線を順次に駆動する走査線駆動回路と、前記各蓄積容量線を順次に駆動する蓄積容量線駆動回路とを備え、
前記各走査線および各蓄積容量線の駆動により表示を行うことが可能な表示領域にその中央領域を挟む2つの余白領域を設ける場合は、一方の余白領域での駆動と、他方の余白領域での駆動とを同期させることを特徴とする液晶表示装置。 - 前記蓄積容量線駆動回路は、2つの補償電圧を同一フィールド期間中の同一タイミングで切り替えながら同一の蓄積容量線に印加することを特徴とする請求項1記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記走査線駆動回路が、各走査線ごとに走査線を駆動するシフトレジスタを備え、前記蓄積容量線駆動回路が、各蓄積容量線ごとに蓄積容量線を駆動する単位回路を備え、余白領域が先に中央領域が後に駆動されるときの当該中央領域で後に駆動される一部の蓄積容量線を除いては、蓄積容量線に対応する単位回路を一部の前記シフトレジスタが動作させるようになっており、
前記後に駆動される一部の蓄積容量線に対応する単位回路を動作させるシフトレジスタを備えたことを特徴とする請求項1または2記載の液晶表示装置。 - 余白領域が先に中央領域が後に1水平走査期間ライン反転駆動が行われるようになっており、
前記中央領域で最後に駆動されるラインの極性と前記余白領域で最初に駆動され且つ当該ラインと隣り合うラインの極性とを互いに異なる極性にする手段を備えたことを特徴とする請求項1ないし3のいずれかに記載の液晶表示装置。 - 前記画素トランジスタを形成するプロセスと同一のプロセスで前記信号線駆動回路と前記走査線駆動回路と前記蓄積容量線駆動回路を前記アレイ基板上に形成したことを特徴とする請求項1ないし4のいずれかに記載の液晶表示装置。
