Abstract
【解決手段】一の端面42から他の端面44まで軸方向に貫通する複数のセル3を形成する隔壁2と、セル3を端面42及び/又は44において目封じする目封じ部4とを備えるハニカム構造体1を提供する。このハニカム構造体は、目封じ部4がドーム状であり、かつ目封じ部4の少なくとも一部が、端面より突出している。

Description
コージェライト化原料にバインダー、造孔材、界面活性剤、水を添加し、これを混合、混練して坏土とした後、押出成形、乾燥の各工程を行って、直径144mm、長さ15mmの円筒状であって、セル形状が正方形、セル密度が300セル/平方インチ(約46セル/cm2)、隔壁厚さが12mil(約0.3mm)のハニカム状の成形体を得た。また、同様の原料を用いてスラリーを作成し、これを型に入れて図1(b)に示すようなドーム状の成形体を作成した。両者を乾燥させた後、接合面にコージェライト化原料のスラリーを塗り、合体させた後、焼成して、隔壁及び外周壁の気孔率が65%、目封じ部の気孔率が50%、目封じ部の(A/B)が0.5のハニカム構造体を得た。
目封じ部の気孔率が表1に示す値となるよう造孔材の量を調節し、長さ/幅比(A/B)が表1の値となるような型を用いたことを除いて実施例1と同様の方法で、実施例2〜5のハニカム構造体を作成した。
図6(a)〜(c)に示すような先端が平坦で空間部を有していない従来の形状の目封じ部であって、目封じ部の先端が端面から若干突出している目封じ部を備えるハニカム構造体を作成した。なお、目封じ部以外は、実施例1と同様の構造となるように作成した。
得られたハニカム構造体をディーゼルエンジンの排気管に取り付け、排ガス温度を300℃とし、約25gのススを発生させてハニカム構造体に流入させた後、流入端面におけるススの詰まり具合を目視で観察して評価した。結果を表1に示す。表1より、比較例1で得られたハニカム構造体においては、目封じ部上にススが堆積し、開口しているセルの部分にもススが張り出し、開口部が小さくなっていることが観察されたのに対し、実施例1〜5で得られたハニカム構造体においては、目封じ部上に微量のススが観察されたのみであった。
Claims (6)
- 一の端面から他の端面まで軸方向に貫通する複数のセルを形成する隔壁と、前記セルを前記端面において目封じする目封じ部とを備えるハニカム構造体であって、前記目封じ部がドーム状であり、かつ前記目封じ部の少なくとも一部が、前記端面より突出しているハニカム構造体。
- 前記目封じ部の気孔率が50%以上である請求項1に記載のハニカム構造体。
- 前記ドーム状目封じ部により形成される空間部の少なくとも一部が、端面より突出した位置にある請求項1又は2に記載のハニカム構造体。
- 前記目封じ部の外表面の少なくとも一部が、内部よりも緻密化されている請求項1〜3のいずれか1項に記載のハニカム構造体。
- 前記目封じ部の先端から端面までの長さ(A)と前記目封じ部の幅(B)との比(A/B)が0.5以上である請求項1〜4のいずれか1項に記載のハニカム構造体。
- 前記目封じ部に触媒が担持されている請求項1〜5のいずれか1項に記載のハニカム構造体。
