Abstract

An office building construction (10) comprising a floor area (20) defined by front and rear walls (12, 14) joined at their left and right ends by a left and right side annex (16, 18) respectively. Each annex (16, 18) includes at least one enclosed office area (22, 26). The floor area includes a communication module (34) comprising means to enable the floor area (20) to communciate with other floor areas located above, below and adjacent the floor area (20). The remainder of the floor area includes a plurality of workstation modules (28) disposed adjacent said front and rear walls (12,14).

Description

An Office Building Construction The present invention relates to an office building construction.
According to the present invention there is provided an office building construction comprising a floor area defined by front and rear walls, said walls being joined at their left and right ends by a left and right side annex respectively, each annex including at least one enclosed office area; said floor area including a communication module comprising means to enable said floor area to communicate with other floor areas located above, below and adjacent said floor area; the remainder of said floor area including a plurality of workstation modules disposed adjacent said front and rear walls.
Preferably, said front and rear walls are parallel to each other and said annexes are substantially semi-hexagonal in shape.
More preferably, a corridor runs longitudinally along said floor area between said annexes.
An embodiment of the invention will now be described, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawing which is a plan view of an office building construction according to the invention.
Referring now to the drawing, there is shown an office building construction generally indicated at 10 according to the invention. The office building construction 10 comprises front and rear walls 12, 14 which run substantially parallel to one another, and a left and a right side annex 16, 18 which are substantially semi-hexagonal in shape. The front and rear walls 12, 14 are joined at their left and right ends by the left and right side annexes 16, 18 respectively to define a floor area 20 which is substantially the shape of an elongated octagon.
The left side annex 16 comprises two offices 22 communicating with each other and the remainder of the floor area 20 via a corridor 24. The right side annex 18 comprises an office 26 and two workstation modules 28.
A plurality of workstation groups 30 are located adjacent the front wall 12. Each workstation group 30 comprises four workstation modules 28 and a substantially 'I' shaped partition member 32. Two workstation modules 28 are located on either side of the partition member 32.
A communication module 34 is located adjacent the right side annex 18 and the rear wall 14. The communication module 34 comprises a stairwell 35, a plurality of lift shafts 37 and a plurality of doors (not shown) in the rear wall 14. Thus, the construction 10 can communicate with other constructions (not shown) which may be located above, below or adjacent the construction 10.
The remainder of the floor area is occupied by workstation modules 28. The communication module 34, workstation groups 30, workstation modules 28 and left and right side annexes 16, 18 communicate via a corridor 36 which runs substantially parallel to the front and rear walls 12, 14.

Claims (4)

CLAIMS :
1. An office building construction comprising a floor area defined by front and rear walls, said walls being joined at their left and right ends by a left and right side annex respectively, each annex including at least one enclosed office area; said floor area including a communication module comprising means to enable said floor area to communicate with other floor areas located above, below and adjacent said floor area; the remainder of said floor area including a plurality of workstation modules disposed adjacent said front and rear walls.
2. An office building construction as claimed in claim 1 in which said front and rear walls are parallel to each other and said annexes are substantially semi-hexagonal in shape.
3. An office building construction as claimed in claim 1 or 2 in which a corridor runs longitudinally along said floor area between said annexes.
4. An office building construction substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to and as illustrated in the accompanying drawing.
