Abstract

999, 891. Photographic relief image. W. RITZERFELD, and G. RITZERFELD. Nov. 8, 1961 [Nov.10, 1960; Jan. 12, 1961; April 6,1961(2); April 27,1961], No.39982/61. Drawings to Specification. Heading G2C. A colloid e.g. a gelatin silver halide emulsion is exposed imagewise, turning developed or wetted with alkali, contacted with a carrier sheet which has a layer or impregnation of tanning developer if the emulsion has been wetted with alkali and then separated so that the hardened portions of the emulsion are transferred to the carrier sheet and leaving a colloid relief image on the emulsion. The transfer may be aided by heating or by incorporating ethylene glycol, ethylene chlorohydrin or triethanolamine in the emulsion, developer or carrier sheet. Before contacting with the carrier sheet, the emulsion may be wetted with an alkaline solution of a compound of Formula I-III which stabilize the developer. The carrier sheet, which may be impregnated with pyrogallol or pyrocatechol, p- or o-phenylenediamine and ascorbic acid, may be perforated along one edge so that it may be folded over the silver halide colloid layer. A hectographic ink transfer sheet having a layer containing one ink and stearin may be used as the carrier sheet or, it may be contacted with the developed emulsion so that the colloid relief image adheres to the transfer sheet. In this last embodiment, the transfer sheet is glued along one edge to a support sheet and the sheet with colloid relief image is placed in between. Preferably, the transfer sheet is perforated near its glued edge. The colloid silver halide layer may contain a leuco compound of a dye so that after formation of the colloid relief image, the layer is oxidized to form a dye. Both the silver halide layer and the carrier layer may be transparent. After the formation of the colloid relief image, this layer may be re-exposed and tanning developed.
