Abstract

883,846. Planographic printing formes. AGFA A.G. Nov. 5, 1959 [Nov. 7, 1958], No. 37601/59. Class 98(2). The silver halide diffusion transfer process is effected to transfer a soluble silver complex to a colloid layer and the latter is treated with, an organic mercapto compound to make a' hydrophobic silver derivative and then with greasy ink for the printing. The process thus avoids the requirement for nuclei in the receiving layer and avoids also intermediate oxidation and washing processes as described in Specification 847,436. In Example 1 a wet strength paper sheet is coated successively with a specified gelatine-barium chloride composition and then with one comprising hypo or sodium sulphate with alkali and formalin, dried, developed in contact with an exposed negative using hypo in the developer if none is present on the sheet, and treated with an alkaline solution of N<SP>1</SP>-(N<SP>3</SP>-octadecylsemicarbazide) - dithiocarboxylic methyl ester. Further examples replace the latter substance with sodium dodecylxanthogenate, hydrazinedithiocarbonic acid, octadecyl ester, 2- mercapto-5-dodecylmercapto - 1,3,4-thiodiazole, 2-mercapto-4-heptadecyl-thiazole, 1 - amino-2- mercapto-5-heptadecyl-1,3,4-triazole and 1- octyl-2-mercapto-benzimidazole.
