Abstract

1,169,774. Photographic diffusion transfer processes. A.B. DICK CO. Feb. 14, 1967 [Feb.14, 1966 (2)], No. 7138/67. Addition to 1,155,596. Heading G2C. An image-receiving material for the silver salt diffusion transfer process comprises a support with a hydrophilic surface coated with (i) a silver halide nucleating agent (ii) a water-soluble salt of zirconium, thorium or titanium and (iii) one or more of (a) a water-soluble cadmium salt, (b) a dye which renders silver image produced more hydrophobic and (c) a silver salt as an additional nucleating agent. This material is contacted with an imagewise exposed silver halide emulsion to produce a hydrophobic silver image on the material which, after fixing, may be used as a lithographic printing plate. The nucleating agent is preferably a stannous salt and the coating(s) may contain an anti-oxidant to preserve the material. Alternatively, a polymeric overcoat may be used to protect the material. Specified dyes are phthalein, erythrosin, eosin and rhodamine dyes and Rose Bengal whereas specified silver salts are the acetate, nitrate and sulphide.
