Abstract

1,054,811. Photographic silver halide materials. TECHNICAL OPERATIONS, Inc. Jan. 14, 1964 [Jan.17, 1963], No. 1690/64. Heading G2C. A photographic material comprising a binderfree layer of silver halide on a support (which may be subbed), is provided with an overcoating of a polymeric film-forming material permeable to developer solution. The polymeric coating itself acts as a sensitizer for the silver halide, but it may contain a sensitizing dye. Alternatively, the silver halide layer may be treated with a solution of a sensitizing dye or the dye may be evaporated or sublimed on to the silver halide layer before the polymeric coating is applied. Film-forming materials specified are a vinyl pyrrolidone/vinyl acetate copolymer, polyvinyl pyrrolidone, polyacrylamide, polyvinyl alcohol, carboxymethyl cellulose, methyl cellulose, cellulose glycolic acid ether, sodium alginate, dimethyl hydantain formaldehyde resin, gelatine, albumen, casein, gums, polycarbamides and polyamides.
