Abstract

912,334. Photographic films. KODAK Ltd. March 2, 1959 [March 5, 1958], No. 7244/59. Class 98 (2). A cellulose ester film base is coated with a layer containing an alkali metal salt of phosphoric, oxalic, tartaric, silicic or carbonic acid before the photographic emulsion layer is applied in order to prevent traces of iron in the base from affecting the emulsion. The base may be so coated on each side. The alkali metal salt may be coated as a gelatin layer, but a binder of polyvinyl alcohol or hydrolysed cellulose acetate also may be used. The film base may be subbed in known manner before the salt-containing layer is applied, for example with a gelatin/cellulose nitrate sub. Specifications 730,622, 738,618 and U.S.A.
