Abstract

712,966. Photographic diazotype vesicular material. GENERAL ANILINE & FILM CORPORATION. Dec. 11, 1952 [Dec. 12, 1951], No. 31411/52. Class 98(2) A solution or dispension of 1-7 parts of a thermoplastic hydrophobic resin and a water solution of 3 to 1 parts of a water-soluble gas impermeable colloid containing a stabilized photosensitive diazonium compound are mixed together, coated on a support and dried to give a layer comprising a clear continuous hydrophobic resin phase with the water-soluble colloid and diazo compound dispersed therein. The layer may be exposed under a design and heated to give a stable vesicular print. It may then be re-exposed to destroy remaining diazo compound. Eleven examples specify, variously, polyvinylidene chloride, polystyrene, polyamide and styreneisobutylene copolymer as thermoplastic hydrophobic resin; polyvinyl alcohol, dextrose, gelatin and melamine-formaldehyde resin as water-soluble gas impermeable colloid; and the diazo compound of 2-amino-1-naphthol-5-sulphonic acid stabilized with citric acid, or 4-diethylaminobenzene diazonium chloride zinc chloride double salt as diazonium compounds; with use of black paper supports to give positive prints. Innumerable other types of hydrophobic resins, water-soluble colloids, diazonium compounds and stabilizers are indicated. Plasticizers and thiourea may be included in the light sensitive layer. Production of detail in shadows and highlight areas in the resulting prints, and also line drawing and halftone production is referred to. Transparent supports give negative prints.
