Abstract

673,244. Photographic heat process. MINNESOTA MINING & MANUFACTURING CO. April 4, 1950, No. 8490/50. Drawings to Specification. Class 98 (ii). An object carrying graphic subject matter such as print, diagram or photograph is copied by placing it in heat conductive relationship with a heat-sensitive copying sheet and irradic ating so as to provide on the sheet an elevated temperature pattern and thereby a visual change corresponding to the subject matter. The heat sensitive sheet may be adjacent to the front or back surface of the object and may be on the same or opposite side of the irradiating source, which source may be an overloaded 500 watt infra-red bulb or for small areas a photo-flash bulb. Irradiating rays may be arranged to sweep or traverse the copy matter. The heat sensitive sheet may be regenerated cellulose treated with an aqueous solution containing nickel acetate, nickel nitrate, ammonium thiosulphate and thiourea; or with such containing lead acetate thiourea and acetic acid, and dried at a low temperature; or may be unsized flax paper treated with particles of methylene blue and of mercuric stearate dispersed in a xylol solution of ethyl cellulose. The sheets are not light-sensitive and yield heat-copies without any form of development.
