925,383. Photographic preparation of hectographic printing sheets. W. RITZERFELD, and G. RITZERFELD. Oct. 21, 1960 [Dec. 11, 1959], No. 36152/60. Class 98 (2). A gelatine-silver halide emulsion using the Herschel effect and containing a water-insoluble colour former is exposed and colour developed to form a hectographic dye from the colour former. It may be contacted with a copy sheet moistened as with alcohol to obtain a hectographic copy therefrom. The developer may contain a tanning substance such as paraformaldehyde. In Example I α naphthol is used as colour former, exposure is made by reflex using long wavelength light, development is effected with N,N-dimethyl-p-phenylenediamine together with a tanning developer, and exposed and swollen parts of the emulsion are removed by pressing against a paper sheet or by washing before hectographic use. Examples II, III use, similarly, an indophenol and 1- phenyl-3-methyl-5-pyrazolone as colour formers, and a few others which may be used are indicated.
