Abstract
996,590. Roving frame. T. MORIKAWA. July 11,1961 [July 11, 1960], No. 25006/61. Heading D1D. A roving frame in which roving is fed at constant speed from drafting-apparatus comprises a bobbin shaft, a flyer, both of which are prevented from moving axially, and drive-means for rotating the bobbin and flyer at different relative speeds, a presser reciprocated along the flyer, and differential gear means in the drive-means for varying the difference in the relative speeds of the bobbin and flyer as the diameter of the winding increases. Means may additionally be provided for avoiding changes in tension in the roving due to movement of the presser towards and away from the drafting rollers. In Fig. 2, the bobbin shaft 24 is rotated at gradually reduced speed from a shaft 5 Fig. 6 through a double-cone arrangement 6, 9 and a differential 13, and the flyer spindle 42 is rotated at constant speed. One arm of the flyer houses a rotatably-mounted interchangeable shaft 45 with a double helical screw engaged by a projection on a member 31a carrying the presser which is consequently traversed along the bobbin with rotation of the flyer as the shaft 45 is rotated from the bobbin shaft by gearing 47. The speed of traverse accordingly reflects the difference between the speeds of the flyer and the bobbin. In Fig. 7, the presser is held magnetically or otherwise to rotate on a rail 32 traversed by threaded rods 34 driven from the lower cone 9 through a reversing- clutch 26, Fig. 6. The tension in the roving is additionally controlled as follows. (a) A pulley 59 over which the roving passes to the presser is attached to one end of a highly expansible spring which is attached to the flyer at 57 and is trained over a fixed pulley 60. (b) A pulley 59 over which the roving is trained on its way to the presser 31 is slidable in a slot in an arm 56 of the flyer and rotates with the flyer in a rail 61 riding on a threaded rod 62. This is rotated from the shaft 29 which drives the rod 34 which traverses the presser-rail 31, the gearing between the shaft 29 and the rods 34, 62 being such that rod 34 is driven twice as fast as rod 62. (c) The bobbin shaft 24, Fig. 6 is driven from the output side of a second differential 48, the input of which comprises planets 50a carried by a gear 51. Gear 51 is driven via gear 55 and a train 27 from reversing- clutch 26, while planets 50a are driven via gears 50, 49, 16 from the input side of differential 13. Hence, according to the position of the reversing- clutch, i.e. according as to whether the guide 31 is rising or falling, a component corresponding to the traverse-speed is added or subtracted from the drive of the bobbin 24, to increase or reduce its speed of rotation.
