Abstract

995,364. Photographic layers. E. I. DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO. May 24,1962 [May 29,1961], No. 20101/62. Heading G2C. A multi-layer photographic element comprises a support bearing a plurality of silver halide emulsion layers of integral emulsion thickness (defined as the distance from the outermost sensitive layer to one third into the innermost sensitive layer) of not more than 12. 5 microns and each layer containing gelatin binder and a vinyl addition polymeric colour coupler containing water solubilizing animic groups such that the effective colour coupling equivalent weight (defined as the equivalent weight of the coupler divided by the fraction of the colour coupler in the total binder) of less than 1750. Specified colour couplers are those of Specifications 967,503, 967,504 and 995,363 and the binder may also contain another polymer (e.g. copolymers of ethylene and propylene). The developer generally contains between 20 and 60 gms. fo anhydrous sodium sulphite to reduce inter-layer colour contamination. In the examples, the ratio of gelatin to colour coupler is 2 to 1 or less. Specifications 627,353, 955,197 also are referred to.
