Abstract

711,025. Developing multilayer photographic materials. KODAK, Ltd. Nov. 13, 1952 [Nov. 14, 1951], No. 28644/52. Class 98(2) An exposed multilayer photographic material comprising at least two differentially coloursensitive silver halide emulsion layers is developed with a primary aromatic amino developer containing a mercapto azole, in the presence of at least one colour coupler. The mercapto azole, which prevents over-development of the top layer, may be 1 - phenyl - 5 - mercapto-tetrazole, 4 - phenyl-2- mercapto-thiazole, 2-mercapto-benzoxazole, 2-mercapto-benzthiazole, or 1-alpha-naphthyl-5-mercapto-tetrazole. It may be present in amounts of from 0.05 to 0.5 g/litre, preferably 0.1 g/litre of developing solution, and development may be carried out at temperatures up to 160‹F, e.g. about 130‹F. Other antifoggants such as benztriazole may be present. The colour couplers may be present either in the emulsion or the developer and suitable multilayer materials and couplers are described in Specifications 524,154 and 541,589. Specification 561,875 also is referred to.
