1314893 Colour photographic light-sensitive silver halide processing FUJI PHOTO FILM CO Ltd 16 July 1970 [17 July 1969] 34615/70 Heading G2C Colour mixing caused by mixing of cyan or yellow dye in the green-sensitive layer of a colour photographic light-sensitive material having on a support at least a red-sensitive silver halide emulsion layer, a green-sensitive silver halide emulsion layer and a blue-sensitive silver halide emulsion layer in a coupler in developer processing method performed with successive use of colour developers containing respectively diffusible couplers of cyan, yellow and magenta, is minimized by incorporating before exposure and processing a magenta coupler, which does not appreciably diffuse into the other layers during the development, into the green-sensitive layer. The diffusion resistant coupler may have one of the formulae:- wherein R 1 is aryl, heterocyclyl, carbamyl or thiocarbamyl which groups may be substituted; R 2 is H, alkyl, aryl, amino, ureido, amido, sulphonamido or sulphamyl which groups may be substituted, or 2-propenyl; R 3 is 1-4C alkyl or aryl; and X is H or a group capable of being liberated at coupling; at least one of R 1 and R 2 having at least one hydrophobic group having 8-30C atoms so as to provide the diffusion-resisting property of the coupler. Many examples are given of the magenta couplers. The magenta coupler is preferably present at 0À0005 to 0À25 mole per mole silver halide in the green-sensitive emulsion layer. The coupler may be incorporated into the emulsion after ripening and before coating.
