Abstract

878,514. Colour photography. KODAK Ltd. Oct. 14, 1957 [Oct. 12, 1956], No. 31955/57. Class 98(2) In a multilayer silver halide colour former material preferably of the kind having the blue sensitive layer next to the support at least one layer, or an intermediate silver halide emulsion layer, contains an emulsion of the internal latent image type as described in Specifications 581,772, 581,773 and 635,841, to the silver halide grains of which is adsorbed a non-image forming colouring material. The colouring material so adsorbed prevent light-scattering, either of light passing to lower layers or reflected therefrom to upper layers and are stated also to assist in preventing deleterious effects caused by wandering of optical sensitizing dyes from grain to grain or from emulsion to emulsion. The colouring materials are disclosed as readily soluble cyanine dyes only. The preferred material with blue sensitive layer lowermost may have this layer of much higher blue light speed than the green and red sensitive layers, or the entire material may be exposed through a yellow filter which absorbs all blue light to which the upper layers are sensitive but not all to which the lowermost layer is sensitive. Example 1 describes preparation of an internal latent image emulsion containing 3 :3<SP>1</SP>- dimethyl-9-phenyl-4:5:4:5<SP>1</SP>-dibenzothiacarbocyanine bromide as red light absorbing material, addition of this to a specified red-sensitive cyan coupler chlorobromide emulsion and coating of the mixture on to a support provided with a blue-sensitive yellow coupler layer, which coating is followed by a green sensitive magenta coupler layer with, optionally, an internal latent emulsion having adsorbed thereto a green light absorbing dye; and exposure and processing of this are described briefly. Examples 2, 3 are directed to the production of cyan coupler internal latent image emulsions containing other cyanines and 4, 5 to corresponding magenta coupler internal latent image emulsions, all for use in the manner of Example 1.
