Abstract

1,249,927. Photographic silver halide colour material. EASTMAN KODAK CO. April 3, 1969 [April 8, 1968], No.17497/69. Heading G2C. Mottling in the dye image obtained by exposing and colour-developing a spectrally-sensitized silver halide colour-coupler-containing emulsion layer coated directly on to, or over another emulsion layer coated directly on to, an electronbombarded hydrophobic surface is prevented by using a methine dye containing at least one sulpho group to spectrally sensitize the emulsion. The sulpho group is preferably present as a sulphoalkyl group attached to a heterocyclic nitrogen atom of a cyanine dye or as a sulpho-alkyl or sulpho-aryl group attached to the heterocyclic nitrogen atom of a merocyanine dye. The hydrophobic surface is preferably polyolefin-coated paper, and the dye containing a sulpho group may be used to sensitize the two emulsion layers closest to the hydrophobic surface e.g. the red and green sensitized layers in a support/red-sensitized/ green-sensitized/blue-sensitive material or the blue and green sensitized layers in a support/ blue-sensitized/green-sensitized/ red-sensitized material, or when the emulsion adjacent to the support is an unsensitized blue-sensitive emulsion the dyes may be used to sensitize only the overlying emulsion e.g. the green-sensitized emulsion in a support/unsensitized blue-sensitive/greensensitized/red-sensitized material.
