Abstract

1,252,066. Photographic multi-colour silver halide materials. EASTMAN KODAK CO. March 21, 1969 [March 21, 1968], No.14941/69. Heading G2C. A light-sensitive silver halide multi-colour photographic material adapted to give acceptable neutrals and colour balance when exposed under daylight, tungsten or fluorescent illumination comprises the following dye image-forming units (i.e. a component of the photographic material comprising one or more layers which is adapted to form a dye image by a photographic process) carried on a support and arranged so that unit (b) is intermediate units (a) and (c): (a) a first bluesensitive, yellow dye image-forming unit having a light sensitive layer comprising silver halide grains which have a relative log spectral sensitivity response to radiation at least as great as the response of curve EB in Fig. 1, and ultraviolet and blue absorbing filter material which selectively absorbs ultraviolet and blue radiation; said filter material and said light sensitive layer co-operating to provide an effective relative log spectral sensitivity distribution which has a smooth, continuous curve (i.e. curves which are essentially free from flat areas, or abrupt, irregular changes) which falls within the areas defined between curves ABC and DBE of Fig. 1 when exposed to light which first passes through said filter; (b) a second green-sensitive, magenta dye image-forming unit having a light sensitive layer comprising silver halide grains which have a relative log spectral sensitivity response to radiation at least as great as the response of curve GJ of Fig. 2, and filter material which selectively absorbs blue and green radiation; said filter material and said light sensitive layer co-operating to provide an effective relative log spectral sensitivity distribution which has a smooth, continuous curve (as defined in (a) above) which falls within the areas defined between curves FGH and IGJ of Fig. 2 when said light sensitive layer is exposed to light which first passes through the blue- and green-absorbing filter material and the first dye image-forming unit; and, (c) a third red-sensitive, cyan dye imageforming unit having a light sensitive layer comprising silver halide grains which have a relative log spectral sensitivity response to radiation at least as great as the response of curve LO of Fig. 3, and filter material which selectively absorbs green and red radiation; said filter material and said light sensitive layer co-operating to provide an effective relative log spectral sensitivity distribution which has a smooth, continuous curve (as defined in (a) above) which falls within the areas defined between curves KLM and NLO of Fig. 3 when the light sensitive layer is exposed to light which first passes through the green- and red-absorbing filter material and the first and second dye image-forming units. Many examples of sensitizing dyes and combinations thereof for the dye image-forming units (a), (b) and (c) and the dyes in the filter material are given. In all the examples the dye image-forming units (a), (b) and (c) contain colour couplers.
