Abstract

993,861. Brushes. OSBORN MANUFACTURING CO. April 3, 1962 [May 31, 1961], No. 12815/62. Heading A4K. In a brush in which the bristles are inserted in separate complete rows, each row, consisting of a single file of bristles, is embedded in a common plate-like plastic sheath 4 which is provided on its faces with plastic spacing projections. The bristles may be made from wire filaments each having irregularly spaced plastic beads 2 formed therealong, as in Specification 908,466. Such filaments may be embedded in a plastic strip 4, as in Specification 900,283, which is subsequently cut into sections and the sections stacked and bonded to form a brush (Fig. 1, not shown). The beads 2 cause the overlying plastic 4 to bulge out to form the spacing projections. In one form, the beads 2 are of polyurethane, the bristles are of hard wire and the plastic 4 is of sponge neoprene containing a filler to make it more easily erodable. A staggered arrangement of bristles is described (Fig. 5, not shown). The beads may be of foamed polyurethane or polyurethane rubber. Specifications 993,862 and 993,863 also are referred to.
