In a brush strip, upstanding bristle deflecting tabs 4a, b are widely spaced to provide regular gaps at which bristles 3 can spread outwardly on either side of the channel holder, thus preventing the tabs from deflecting the wire bristles in a pronounced wave formation. Non-coincidence of the peaks and troughs of the waves of adjacent turns of strip, in a cylindrical or frusto-conical brush, is thus not critical in preventing the bristle tips from being evenly distributed in the brushing surface.
