Abstract

726,940. Rotary brushes. ARCHER, F. W. C. June 26, 1953 [July 10, 1952], No. 17441/52. Class 19. A cylindrical brush of the type in which the bristle tufts are carried by holders removably mounted in slots on a cylindrical stock, the bristles in the tufts are splayed and alternate tufts are inclined in circumferentially opposite directions. The rotary road sweeping brush shown comprises dovetail shaped bristle holders 4 removably held in channels 2 mounted on or formed in a cylindrical wooden stock 1. The bristles, which may be of bass, fibre, hair or wire, are removably fixed in sockets in the holder by a plug 8 (Fig. 5) co-operating with a shoulder 10 and the tufts are given a twist so that the ends splay out, alternate tufts being directed with opposite inclinations. Metal ferrules may be provided in the sockets and two side-by-side series of holders are provided, the holders of one series being circumferentially staggered with reference to those of the other (Fig. 2, not shown). Circular end-plates retain the holders in position and according to the Provisional Specification the tufts at one end of the stock are longer and inclined outwardly so that more effective sweeping of the gutter is obtained.
